YORKIES DANCING THEIR WAY TO LA
During the April holidays Zanele and Khanyi Mabena, along with their dance teams, represented the Western Cape at the National South African Championships of Performing Arts in Rustenburg.
Khanyi received one gold and two silver medals for her age group in modern dancing. (A first and second place). Zanele received one gold and two silver medals for modern dancing, as well as a silver medal for tap dancing. Both Yorkies were chosen to be part of the South African team that will be travelling to Los Angeles, USA, to compete in the World Championships of Performing Arts. INGREDIENTS 400g roll TODAY short crust pastry 4 tbsp. strawberry jam 2 egg yolks 125g smooth cottage cheese 125ml fresh cream fresh raspberries (for garnish) icing sugar (for dusting) METHOD Preheat the oven to 180˚C. Roll out the pastry to a thickness of about 1.5mm. Line a 20cm loosebottomed baking tin with the pastry, making sure to press the pastry around the sides of the tin and to prick the base with a fork.
Known as nature’s candy, wild raspberries have been gathered for consumption by humans for thousands of years. With their rich color, sweet juicy taste and antioxidant power, it is no wonder raspberries remain one of the world’s most consumed berries.
Soften the jam with a spoon, and spread it over the bottom of the pastry layer. Mix the yolks, cottage cheese and cream, then pour the mixture over the layer of jam.
Raspberries can range in color from the popular red and black varieties to purple, yellow or golden. Each color berry has a unique composition of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until set.
Eating one cup of raw raspberries will provide 54% of your vitamin C needs, 12% of vitamin K, 6% of folate, 5% of vitamin E, iron, and potassium, and 41% of manganese needs for the day as well as lesser amounts of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B-6, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and copper.
Once the tart has cooled, arrange the raspberries over the top, and sprinkle with icing sugar. Serve with fresh cream, mascarpone or ice cream.

Following the success of the 2015 Easter rugby festivals, held by various schools across SA. It seems the dust has finally settled ... or has it? It was arguably the biggest schools’ rugby week in South Africa, with all the Easter rugby festivals kicking off during the school break. The week included some intriguing matches that were sure to keep spectators on the edge of their seats. And this is only the beginnig of rugby season.

Telisa Lombard and Janè van Zyl, two students from Point High School, recently got their short stories published. The two girls entered Short Story Day Africa’s short story competition last year, and both of them made it to the top six. Last week Wednesday, the 18th of March, they attended the book launch of the anthologies Follow the Road and Terra Incognita. There they met other young aspiring writers as well as previously published writers and more experienced writers from the
adult anthology. Their stories are published in the children and young adult anthology Follow the Road. We are very proud of this accomplishment. Well done Telisa and Janè!

Ons verloor Vrydag in die hoofwedstryd teen ‘n sterk HS Hermanus 0 - 20 voor hul tuisskare, maar maak die volgende dag op daarvoor en ons klop Monument Park, 14 - 13 in ‘n naelbyt wedstryd. Groot dank aan al ons borge en ondersteuners. Ons neem van 4 - 8 April 2015 aan die SCST toernooi by Outeniqua Park deel. Borge: Watson’s Meat, Fedics, Eden Electrical, Tuff Guard, Servcor, Diversey.

ROCKY SEA SHORE
On the 6th of March, the grade 9 learners went on a practical excursion to Herold’s Bay Beach. When we got there we were accompanied by San Park Rangers, Brian du Preez (student at NMMU), Darren Fourie and Mrs Van Rensburg. For the practical we had to research marine
organisms from each of the four zones, with the help from our guides. One of the sea creatures we were very pleased to see was an octopus, but it didn’t seem very pleased to see us. It carefully camouflaged itself before slinking under a rock. We also saw fireworms, cushion
stars, feather duster worms and cuttlefish. We learned about how each of the species are specifically adapted to a life of desiccation and wave pummelling on the rocky seashore. When we were finished with our practical we thanked our guides for helping us with all of the research and

OAKDALE TOUTREK – BESTE IN LAND
Die toutrekspanne het met die verwerwing van agt medaljes in die ses gewigsafdelings tydens die SAToutrekkampioenskappe die afgelope naweek, hul top-posisie in skole-toutrek bevestig. Dit was egter die beloning vir harde werk gedurende die eerste kwartaal, asook die bekwame afrigting van mnre. Piet Lourens, Phillip Zietsman en Tienie van Wyk, wat die Oakdalers tot sukses gelei het. Hier op Oakdale is die entoesiasme van die Oakdalers daagliks sigbaar wanneer die drom letterlik honderde kere teen die pale uitgetrek word, bande rondgetrek en gestoot word en die seuns elke middag kilometers draf. Nee, die toutrekprestasie kom nie vanself nie – dit is letterlik skouer aan die wiel sit! Die graad 8-leerders wat vanjaar vir die eerste keer met toutrek begin het, het verseker hul merk gemaak en is reeds deel van die Oakdale-karakter. Tydens die SA-Toutrekkampioenskappe op Worcester het Oakdale teen die beste skole landwyd meegeding. Dit was die grootste toutrekbyeenkoms met die meeste deelnemers wat nog ooit in die wêreld aangebied is. Die Oakdale-
spanne, met hul kenmerkende blou truie en rooi kouse, het in elke afdeling hul stempel afgedruk. Die uitslae lyk as volg: AFDELING SPAN UITSLAE 480 kg-plaat C-span 5de 520 kg-plaat B-span Brons 520 kg B-span Brons 400 kg A-span Silwer 480 kg A-span Brons 440 kg A-span Goud 440 kg B-span Brons 520 kg A-span Silwer 600 kg A-span Goud 560 kg A-span Goud Die 560 kg-span het hiermee hul kampioenskapstitel suksesvol verdedig en is aangewys as die SA-span wat gedurende September die land in die 560 kg-afdeling by die wêreldkampioenskappe in Noord-Ierland gaan verteenwoordig. Oakdale se 560 kg A-span is vir die afgelope vyf jaar as die SA-span aangewys vir deelname aan die wêreldkampioenskappe en was ook in 2014 die wêreldkampioene. Oakdale is verseker die toonaangewende skool in toutrek landwyd!
OAKDALERS KRY OPLEIDING BY MOSSTRICH
Die graad 10-leerders het onlangs Mosstrich besoek as deel van hul landbouonderrigprogram. Besoek is spesifiek gebring aan SCOTT waar die hele proses rakende die hantering van volstruisvelle, gradering en kleurproses aan die Oakdalers verduidelik is. Mosstrich is een van Oakdale se lojale borge oor jare heen en lewer ook ʼn waardevolle bydrae tot landbou-opleiding.

JANCO EEN VAN VIER BESTES IN LAND
Janco Klinck, o.15-atleet, het tydens die ASA-byeenkoms te Bloemfontein vierde in die 300 m-hekkies-wedloop geëindig. Janco se mikpunt is om gedurende 2016 ʼn medalje by hierdie byeenkoms te verower. Janco is ʼn uiters gemotiveerde atleet wat hard oefen en vir homself hoë doelwitte stel. ʼn Ideale atleet vir enige afrigter. Die ander Oakdale-atlete het as volg presteer: • Renaldo Ferreira: o.19 – vyfde in gewigstoot, sesde in diskus en negende in hamergooi • Karel Kleinhans: o.15 – sewende in hamergooi • André Nel: o.17 – negende in spiesgooi • Michael Cronjé: o.17 – agtste in gewigstoot Die atlete het waardevolle ervaring opgedoen deur teen die bestes in die land deel te neem.

Agt Dasse is in die SWD-atletiekspan opgeneem. Die Dasse het vanjaar nόg beter prestasies as in vorige jare gelewer. Dit kan aan ‘n entoesiastiese afrigterskorps, toegewyde atlete en groter blootstelling toegeskryf word.
DASSE-TOERISME OP VELDWERK-UITSTAPPIE
Een van Hoërskool Langenhoven se mikpunte is om leerders prakties sowel as teoreties vir die lewe voor te berei. Die graad 10 Toerisme-klas, het op 23 Maart 2015 ‘n veldwerk-uitstappie na Mosselbaai onderneem. Die doel van hierdie ekskursie was om die akkommodasie-, besienswaardigheid- en gasvryheidsektor prakties te beleef. Dit maak deel uit van ‘n verpligte praktiese assessering vir die leerders
se jaarpunt. Om die verskillende tipes akkommodasie eerstehands te beleef, was die Garden Route Hotel, 3 Colours Blue B&B, Mosselbaai Backpackers en die Diaz Hotel besoek. Die uitstappie is verder uitgebrei deur om Robeiland, met die Seven-Seas boot te vaar, die Punt-grot, asook die Maritieme Museum te besoek. Die dag is afgesluit met ‘n heerlike middagete by die welbekende Delfino’s Restaurant.

Marlé van Wyk, ‘n graad 8-leerder is in die SWD (Eden) swemspan vir gestremdes opgeneem. Sy gaan vanaf 30 Maart – 2 April 2015 aan die SA-toernooi te Johannesburg deelneem. Marlé is gesiggestremd, maar haar positiwiteit en deursettingsvermoë is ‘n inspirasie vir soveel van haar portuurgroep.

Alika Steyn, ‘n graad 8-leerder het tydens die Wes-Kaap Atletiekkampioenskappe te Stellenbosch uitsonderlik presteer. Alika is in die WesKaapspan vir diskus en gewigstoot opgeneem. Dié Dassie is nog O/13 en het ook SWD in diskus, gewigstoot en spiesgooi verwerf!
DASSE-NETBAL UITNODIGINGSTOERNOOI
Hoërskool Langenhoven se eerste netbalspan het op Woensdag, 25 Maart 2015, van George na Johannesburg gevlieg om aan die Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool se uitnodigingstoernooi deel te neem. Die twintig beste netbalspanne in die land word hierna uitgenooi. Daar word geglo dat hulle, soos verlede jaar, weer uitstekend sal presteer.
