Baby Spinach and Strawberry Salad Strawberries are a spring gem that bear the promise of bountiful summer fruits that will soon be available. Their keen fruitiness makes them a flavorsome salad ingredient too. What’s more, they can be blended with the tiniest seasoning to make an instant and vibrantly colourful dressing. I like to select the firmest strawberries in the punnet for the salad and then use any riper strawberries to go into the blender. Strawberries love black pepper, so be generous with the grinder in your hand. YOU’LL NEED • 100 g baby spinach, washed and drained • 100 g strawberries, trimmed and quartered • ½ cucumber, peeled, deseeded and

HOOFDOGTER NA JEUGLEIERSKONFERENSIE Jana Labuschagne, hoofdogter van die Dasse, het in Desember die gesogte “Die Burger Jeugleierskonferensie” in Muizenberg bygewoon. Die keuring vir hierdie byeenkoms is baie streng en uitnodiging baie gesog. Volgens Jana was dit ’n onvergeetlike belewenis en is haar horisonne verbreed. Langenhoven is trots dat sy deel van hierdie uitsoekgroep-leerders was.

Hierdie vier leerders is deur hul klas verkies as die nuwe graad 8 verteenwoordigers op die VRL van Hoërskool Langenhoven.

Getrou aan Hoërskool Langenhoven se akademiese tradisie van voortreflike akademiese prestasies, het die klas van 2014 nie teleurgestel nie. Al 82 matrieks het geslaag, van wie nege matrikulante ’n A-gemiddelde behaal het. 100% van die klas slaag met tersiêre toelatingsvereistes. Mnr. Piet de Villiers, skoolhoof, het die matrikulante geloof vir hulle goeie prestasies.

OAKDALE-MATRIEKS HANDHAAF SUKSESTRADISIE Die Hoër Landbouskool Oakdale se matrieks van 2014 behaal vir die 18de agtereenvolgende jaar ’n 100%slaagsyfer. Die 71 matrieks het hul uitstekend van hul taak gekwyt en 69% van die klas behaal matrikulasievrystelling. Nege van die leerders behaal gemiddelde A-simbole met Tristan Perrins (toppresteerder) met 87% gemiddelde en sewe onderskeidings. Die ander A-kandidate is: Stephan Streicher 85,5%, Hendré van Zyl 85,1%, Wilhelm Briers 83,8%, Adriaan Liebenberg 83%, Jason Clark 82,8%, Ian de Wet 82,5%, Bertus Pretorius 81,5% en Jahnerik Fourie 81%. Die vakgemiddeldes lyk
uitstekend en die klas behaal 115 A-gemiddeldes asook 136 B-gemiddeldes. Die volgende vakke spog met vakgemiddeldes bo 70%: Afrikaans 71,3%, Landboubestuurspraktyk 72%, Landbouwetenskap 75,1%, Ingenieursgrafika en -ontwerp 74,4%, Wiskundige Geletterdheid 74,2% Toerisme 72% en Lewensoriëntering 71%. Oakdale is trots op die prestasies van die 2014-matriekklas. Die skool spog ook vanjaar met die twee beste Landboutegnologie leerders landwyd. Jahnerik Fourie behaal nasionaal ’n eerste plek en Ian de Wet beklee die tweede plek. Wat ’n puik prestasie!

Met aanvang 2015 is ʼn groep van 98 nuwe graad 8-leerders verwelkom. Hierdie jong bulletjies kom van heinde en ver om te deel in die unieke Oakdalekarakter van trots, tradisie en
dissipline. Leerders kom vanaf dorpe soos Kareedouw, Pofadder, Jeffreysbaai, Oudtshoorn, George, Worcester, Kaapstad en nog vele meer. Die groep is tans besig om hul talente ten toon te stel in verskeie
sportsoorte en kultuuraktiwiteite. Hierdie jong Bulletjies is vasbeslote om gedurende die volgende vyf jaar die skool tot op ʼn volgende vlak van uitnemendheid te neem. Klein mannetjies met groot drome!
Die 98 nuwe Bulletjies word op Oakdale ontvang en is vol entoesiasme om diep spore op Oakdale te trap.
OAKDALE-SWEMMERS VERTEENWOORDIG SWD Burger Meyer en Duncan Hamilton het Saterdag, 17 Januarie 2015, die SWD tydens ʼn interprovinsiale swemkompetisie in Bloemfontein verteenwoordig. Beide seuns het baie goed gedoen in die individuele items sowel as aflosse.

OAKDALER LOOP IN DIEP SPORE Oud-Oakdalers uit die tydperk 1931 – 1964 praat met groot respek van die oudskoolhoof, mnr. Attie Smuts. Oom Attie het ʼn baie groot bydrae gelewer tot die vestiging van ʼn sterk gedissiplineerde basis waarop Oakdale steeds funksioneer. JC is die agterkleinkind van oom Attie Smuts en kom al die pad vanaf Lutzville om hier onder die akkerbome te stap in die voetspore van sy oupagrootjie. Dit was ook sy groot motivering
om sy hoërskoolloopbaan hier op Oakdale voort te sit. JC bind ʼn nuwe skakel van tradisie en trots gekoppel aan ʼn ryke geskiedenis van ʼn mentor, vriend en held in vele oudskoliere se Oakdalehoërskoolloopbaan. JC Smuts met ʼn foto van sy oupagrootjie, mnr. Attie Smuts (skoolhoof 1931 – 1964).

MATRIC RESULTS 2014
Congratulations to the matrics of 2014 who achieved excellent results in the NSC Examinations. We are particularly pleased by the 85,8% Bachelor rate which qualifies 139 of the 162 matrics to go to university. Two candidates did not pass but are registered for supplementary examinations in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, the only two subjects where we had any failures. The following candidates achieved A aggregates and we are hoping for more to join them after re-marks. GRADE 8 FUN DAY
On Tuesday, January 20th, a welcome party for the Grade 8s of 2015 was held at York High School by the Matric class of 2015. The aim of the matrics was to welcome the babies of the York High family and to allow the new grade 8s to bond with each other as well as with their matric mentor. They were divided into groups and participated in a number of different ice-breakers and teambuilding activities. There was an abundance of energy amongst the youngsters and we are excited to see the strong bond that formed between these groups of grade 8s. All had a very successful day filled with fun, laughter and synergy.
