PROGRAM GCU has a Psychology Scholars Program that is an accelerated honors program in psychology where students can finish their B.A. in less than four years. Students are welcome to join both the University Honors Program and Psychology Scholars Program.

Why apply to the GCU Psychology Scholars Program?

• Scholarships are available.

• Live in honors housing (if available).

• Research, publish, and/or present at professional conferences.

The University Honors Program offers Georgian Court University students from any major the opportunity to engage in challenging academic experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

Smaller, in-depth classes allow students to work closely with their professors while being with their peers who will foster their intellectual growth.

Special honors housing in Mercy Hall is available for students in the University Honors Program or Psychology Scholars Program, depending on availability. Students also enjoy priority registration and qualify for scholarship funding (depending on their overall financial aid package).

As a participant in the Honors Program, you will collaborate with faculty members in a variety of special courses. Honors students who complete the program will receive special recognition on their transcript and diploma.

Students also have the opportunity to pursue honors through Departmental Honors in some majors and by joining honors societies. These are distinct from the Honors Program and have their own separate advantages and requirements.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS As a member of the honors programs, you must: • maintain a minimum cumulative overall GPA of 3.3 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in honors courses; • attend program meetings; and

CAN BENEFIT FROM: • faculty members known for their excellence as teaching-scholars, • dedicated honors classes focused on in-depth learning and intellectual challenge, • a student community made up of committed high achievers, • opportunities to pursue rigorous scholarly assignments and independent research, • close faculty mentoring, • priority registration and academic advisement, • assistance with funding to present at professional conferences, • special recognition at Commencement ceremonies, and • scholarships.

Other perks for University Honors Program students include: • special co-curricular activities that invigorate the social, aesthetic, and spiritual dimensions of their university experience; • honors housing (if available); and • opportunities for service trips, both domestic and international.

Students can receive also receive honors recognition by: • joining honor societies and/or • participating in departmental honors (contact your department chair for more information).

THE HONORS PROGRAMS Based on when you come to GCU, there are a few different ways to enter the programs.

• First-Year Selection (based on high school performance): Potential University Honors Program and Psychology Scholars Program students will be identified and recruited by admissions counselors on the basis of their academic excellence in high school college preparatory courses and their standardized test scores. Consideration will also be given to students’ course selection with preference for students who take honors and Advanced Placement classes. Admission to the honors programs will be by invitation of the director upon review of the candidates’ records. See requirements for details about what is required to graduate with honors after being admitted to the program.

• Transfer Students: Transfer students who have a GPA of at least 3.6 from their previous institution may apply for admission to the University Honors Program or Psychology Scholars Program by submitting an application to the program director. Preference will be given to students who were honors students at their previous institution.

• participate in university-sponsored, co-curricular activities and events designated by the program director.

Students who do not meet all of the requirements will not graduate with honors, even if they remain in the program throughout their time at GCU.
