Student Spotlight JAVETTA COBB 2011 Graduate of the Online Degree Completion Program Bachelor of Criminal Justice, Justice Administration Why did you choose Tiffin University’s Degree Completion program? I chose Tiffin University’s Degree Completion program because it of the time flexibility it offers, as well as the option for online learning. It allowed me to spend more time with my family, have time for leisure activities, and complete an internship while completing online classes. Choosing the online Degree Completion program, for me, was more about choosing a greater balance for myself within my life. What did you like about the program while you were attending class? The thing I enjoyed most was the online threaded discussions. Our cohort connected so well. We really enjoyed and supported each other, as well as learned a great deal from one another. Did you face any challenges while you were in our program? I face many personal challenges while completing my education. I actually considered dropping out to resolve my issues, but realized that there will always be issues in your life and accomplishing one’s goals and dreams has to remain a top priority. I found ways to keep a healthy balance in my life and persevered. To stay healthy, I took lessons in Tai Chi, joined a jogging program, and practiced daily breathing exercises. This definitely helped me keep a better balance in my busy daily life and schooling.

Founded in 1888, Tiffin University is proud to offer a personal and practical education for motivated, professionally focused students who want real-world experiences and results.

Do you have any other goals for the future? I plan to begin the Graduate program at Tiffin University to earn a Master of Science in Criminal Justice in Forensic Psychology. I also plan to receive a (continued on page 2)

certificate in Addictions Counseling. The major plan in my life is to work as a Criminal Analyst/Profiler or as a Forensic Psychologist while getting through law school. I also have plans to publish three books, open a poetry shop online, and eventually open up a shop to sell poetry that I have written. What did you find most challenging about the Degree Completion program? I found the program to be very intensive in writing and research, and it seemed overwhelming at times. The result, however, is being able to leave this program with a wealth of knowledge and information that can be utilized to your advantage when it comes to getting a job and being interviewed. The more you know, the more of an advantage you will have over other college graduates. Do you have any advice for potential and current Degree Completion students? It is very important to look within yourself and understand why you have chosen to go to college. It is too easy to lose focus on your goals when you are faced with many life and school challenges. It is important to try to establish a balance in your life so that things do not spin out of control. Once a student refocuses of why they are in school, it is much easier to focus on staying in school and overcoming any challenges that may arise along the way.

DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAMS – Attendance and Make-Up Assignment Policy REVISED APRIL 28, 2011 Due to the concentrated scheduling and the emphasis upon participatory learning, adult learners need to be in attendance every week. Students are permitted one class session absence in a five or seven week course and two class session absences for a ten, eleven, or fourteen week course. Absence is permitted due to illness or other emergency situation requires that the student complete a make-up assignment. A student is considered absent from the class session when half or more of a class session is missed. (The half-time attendance policy is for students in seated courses and does not apply for online courses.) (For online students a missed class session is due to completing zero work for the week – no postings and no assignment submitted.) The Adult Learner must complete an assignment to make up for the missed course content. The assignment is due the week following the missed class and is to be turned in at the time the next week’s homework is due. If the make-up assignment is not completed or it does not meet the requirements, the student will receive an “F” for the class. The make-up assignment will be a paper, 4 pages in length, about a topic from the missed class session to be chosen by the Instructor. The paper will be, as all Degree Completion Program papers are required to be, in APA format, double spaced, Times New Roman, size 12. A title page and a reference page will be included. The title page and reference page will not be counted in the 4 pages. The assignment will be graded on a pass-fail basis.
