The 2012 year was extremely positive for Tiffin University. Some of the highlights are summarized below: F I N A N C E S » The value of TU’s net assets at the end of the 2011-12 fiscal year was 35% higher than at the end of the previous fiscal year and 310% higher than at the conclusion of the 2004-05 fiscal year.

E n r o l l m en t » Total enrollment for the 2012 fall semester was 6,920, which was the largest enrollment in TU’s history. Enrollment at all other Ohio colleges and universities decreased by 5.1% compared with the fall of 2011. Fall semester enrollment of international students on the Tiffin campus increased to 121 students from 32 countries. N E W A C A D E M I C P RO G R A M S » New undergraduate concentrations were developed in Intelligence and Securities Studies and in Politics and Government within the National Security major; Application Specialist, Software Development, and System and Network Support within the Computer Information Systems major; Educational Studies within the Professional Studies major; and Chemistry within the General Science major. Also, the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Forensic Science was approved by the Higher Learning Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents, and concentrations in Classroom Teaching and in Adaptive Learning were developed within the Master of Education degree. C api t a l C a m paign » Share the Pride, Build on Tradition: A Campaign for Tiffin University continued, with more than $14 million raised. The goal was $12 million, and the campaign will continue until May of 2013.

F A C I L I T I E S » The Heminger Center was completed, dedicated, and put into use. Also, the Pettibone property on the corner of Miami Street and Wall Street was acquired, a large parking lot was created immediately west of the Heminger Center, and a practice facility for the wrestling team was constructed. A T H L E T I C S » TU finished 6th out of 14 member institutions in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the allsports trophy for 2011-12, and a coach was hired to develop men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams to begin competition in the fall of 2013. O N L I N E L E A R N I N G » The quality of TU’s online courses was enhanced with the creation of the Center for Online Learning and the transition of online courses to the Moodle learning management system. T H A N K Y O U » The many achievements that took place at TU during the past year would not have been possible without the support of the donors listed in this Annual Report. Thanks to their generosity, the University is well positioned to continue providing excellent educational opportunities for the students of today and tomorrow.

The Lobby of the Heminger Center, located on Miami Street in Tiffin, was dedicated in honor of Lenny and Lynn Clouse (Clouse Construction), their children, Brian, Nicole, and Lindsey, and their parents, Carl and Rosemary Clouse and Richard and Joan Perry, in February. The Tiffin University family (faculty, staff and students) as well as many community leaders attended the ceremony. The Clouse family was honored for their contributions to both the university and the community.

“Our Tiffin community has thrived because of the Clouse family’s contributions,” said Ron Schumacher, TU’s Vice President for Development and Public Affairs. Clouse Construction was a general contractor along with ACI Construction on the Heminger Center. Lenny and Lynn are 13-year members of Tiffin University’s President’s Club and Clouse Construction was one of TU’s top donors in TU’s Share the Pride. Build on Tradition campaign. Lenny Clouse became a part of the TU family when he enrolled in 1974. Clouse Construction was founded in 1975 with his brother Norman. “This project took time, effort and dreams,” said Lenny Clouse. “Tiffin University has never looked better.” “Lenny built Clouse Construction into a successful company with a reputation of honesty and quality of work at a reasonable price,” said Paul Marion, President of Tiffin University.

L O B B Y During their acceptance speech, Lenny and Lynn expressed gratitude and awe to the TU family and the grandeur of the center. Lynn thanked all in attendance for the honor and Lenny gave the audience a piece of advice through a family story. “If you want to be truly successful, care about the people around you,” he said. “The more you care about other people, the better off you’ll be.”

ABOUT THE HEMINGER CENTER The Heminger Center, Tiffin University’s newest building, was named in honor of the family of Gary and Jane Heminger, in recognition of their generous gift for construction of the state-of-the-art facility and their many other positive contributions to the University. The dedication of the Heminger Center took place in May, 2012. The Heminger Center was TU’s final component of a nine-year quest to transform the former Rosenblatt property into University use. In addition to the benefits that the new building provides for TU students and employees, it is also available for use by area schools and community groups, conferences, trade shows, and other activities.

Accelerated Degree Programs allow students to earn Bachelor’s Degree in three years and Bachelor’s + Master’s Degrees in four years. Beginning fall semester, TU will offer students the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in three years followed by a master’s degree in just one additional year. The program will give prospective students an exciting and

8

innovative new pathway toward graduate education without sacrificing the on-campus experience or quality of education. “We are doing this to offer prospective students the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree in less time than the normal four years and a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in less time than the usual six years, saving the student both time and money,” explains TU President Paul Marion. Students will be able to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice or business. If the student wishes, he or she would also have the choice of stopping after receiving a bachelor’s degree in three years. According to Marion, the target audience would be prospective students and their parents who want the benefits of TU’s high quality education and are willing to compress their college experience into a more compact time schedule. “This program fits into TU’s mission of providing access and opportunity by giving students a chance to accomplish their educational goals in a more efficient and cost-effective way,” he adds. Based on current costs, a student in the program could save more than $9,000 alone in room and board costs. But students will still enjoy all the benefits of living on campus for the first three years of the program, with the fourth-year master’s degree program offered in a combination of online and seated courses.

TU’s accelerated opportunity follows an initiative from Ohio’s governor that by 2014, state universities must offer 60 percent of their bachelor’s degrees in a three-year format. While this initiative applies only to public institutions, TU – as an independent university – is breaking the mold and staying ahead of the educational curve to appeal to the needs and desires of both today’s and tomorrow’s highly motivated, well-prepared high school graduate. Course offerings in the new program will be the same as TU’s regular four-year bachelor’s degree programs. The difference will come in the accelerated way in which these courses are offered. Both online and seated courses will be offered during the summer to ensure that students receive the same toptier education that TU has been known for during its more than 100-year existence. Students will also be required to retain a minimum grade-point average to remain in the program. “This is Tiffin University’s proactive approach to convenient learning in higher education – a new opportunity to provide higher education in a flexible, timely and convenient learning setting,” Marion says. “TU is already known for our flexibility, affordability and convenience, and although the program will save students time and money, they will need to remain serious about their education because of the rigorous academic calendar schedule.”

A b o u t Tiffin U ni v e r si t y » TU offers its programs on the Tiffin campus, online, in Romania and Taiwan, and at several locations throughout Ohio. The Tiffin campus serves as the residential campus for traditional college-age undergraduates, a site for graduate degree offerings, and the headquarters for the entire TU educational network. Tiffin University’s seated and online programs are authorized by the Ohio Board of Regents and are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC/ NCA). TU’s business programs are also accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and the European Council for Business Education (ECBE).
