TU To Host Community Easter Egg Hunt

Tiffin University’s Student Government will hold the annual Christi Thomas Memorial Easter Egg Hunt on Wednesday, April 16 beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Legacy Courtyard of the Tiffin campus. Children are asked to meet in the Osceola Theatre with adult supervision and a basket to collect eggs.

Age groups are set up as follows (hunting times vary): Ages 2 and under Ages 3-4 Ages 5-6 Ages 7+ Parents/guardians are asked to assist in helping children understand the rules explained at the gathering time and to be courteous to their fellow egg hunters.

Tiffin University & Heidelberg to Co-Present at NAFSA Conference

Latin American Student Organization

Guest Lecture Wednesday, April 9 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Chisholm Auditorium of Franks Hall TU’s Latin American Student Organization (LASO) will host guest lecturer Jesus F. Sanchez, Director of Programs, Esperanza, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 9, from 10:00 a.m. until noon in Chisholm Auditorium located inside of Franks Hall.

Sanchez will discuss Hispanic high school students and higher education, academic achievement, outreach programs, cultural diversity and Hispanic issues.

TU’s Rachel Crooks, Director of International Student Advising, will copresent with Heidelberg University at the NAFSA (National Association of Foreign Student Advisers) DriveIn Conference on April 25.

The presentation, “WinWin by Internationalizing your Community,” focuses on how TU and Heidelberg has collaborated to incorporate international students with the community of Tiffin.

“We will share our best practices in hopes that other schools might be inspired to encourage international students to get involved in their communities as well,” Crooks said.

REMINDERS The School of Arts and Sciences will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Exercise Science Lab in the Hanson building on April 16 at 10:30 a.m.

About Exercise Science Tiffin University began offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science in 2014. This program will enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills to successfully pursue careers within the rapidly growing domain of Exercise Science, as well as provide an excellent academic foundation for students choosing to pursue professional opportunities in exercise physiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, sports medicine, and athletic training. In addition to preparing students for graduate work, the program will also enable them to pursue careers in personal training, coordination of corporate wellness programs, and coaching for strength and conditioning.

In the Exercise Science Lab students will perform studies on body composition, flexibility, maximum oxygen uptake (vO2max), musculoskeletal fitness and physiology, the biomechanics of exercise, and thermodynamics, etc.

The Lab has been equipped with instruments such as the goniometer, Power Systems 70200 Flex-Tester, MyoTape, balance beam scale, BioScan 916 BIA, hydraulic hand evaluation kit, compact metronome, heart rate monitor watch, Incentive Deep Breathing Exerciser Spirometer, calipers, electromyography system (EMG), and Monark Ergomedic 884E Sprint Bike, Dartfish Software, and stop watches. This equipment will allow students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in the classroom.

TU’s Hill Co-Authors Introduction to Homeland Security Textbook Dr. Joshua Hill, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Security Studies, at Tiffin University has co-authored a new textbook, “Introduction to Homeland Security: Policy, Organization, and Administration.”

“I'm very pleased to see yet another demonstration of the dedication to scholarship we have among our faculty,” says Dr. Jamie Orr, Dean of the School of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences. “Dr. Hill's text is an excellent introductory text to a subject of tremendous importance, a subject in which Tiffin University places a great deal of emphasis. Spring into action at the SSC

As the term begins to wind down and the weather (finally) starts to improve it is easy to start relaxing. Nevertheless, it should be a time to push harder in your classes. The Student Support Center in Friedley Hall can help you do this. We have services that can help you finish your classes on a strong note.

Peer Tutoring To get the support you need simply call the SSC in Friedley Hall and request an appointment with a tutor. The number is 419-448-3324. We have tutors in nearly all subjects. You can also e-mail us at ssc@tiffin.edu to make an appointment. Finally, you could always just drop by to schedule an appointment or to see if a tutor is available at that moment.

The Student Success Center tutoring hours are Monday – Thursday from 9 am to 10 pm, Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm, and Sundays from 5 pm to 9 pm.

PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) These group sessions are attached to most English 100, 140, 141, and 142 classes, BIO 101 classes, and a few other classes. If you have a class with a PAL leader take advantage of these sessions!

ARTIST MATT TAYLOR TO VISIT CAMPUS APRIL 9 Artist Matt Taylor “Mr. Taylor” designs are about controlling focus, and creating compositions that guide the viewer’s eye. His aim is to emphasize design integrity, while meeting the needs of the client, collaborator, or piece of art.

Mr. Taylor will visit Professor Melanie Trost’s Art History class on April 9. He will discuss his work as a street artist in the surrounding area. He has worked on several mural projects around Northwest Ohio, including the "Toledo Loves Love" wall and a project for Findlay High School.

Matt Taylor is a designer and illustrator who works and lives in the Historic Old West End District of Toledo, Ohio. Early years of non-stop drawing led to a lifelong interest in art and design.

His focus is on creating work that deals with value and intricate detail, embracing imperfection and allowing the composition to build upon itself. He often draws inspiration from ancient engravings and classic tattoos. He has worked as a design director for SillyBrandz Global for the past seven years and is a founding member of Divicious! And LazerShirts and interactive UV glow t-shirt company. Hard work and many volunteer gigs have led him to become a noticeable part of the Toledo, Ohio art scene, showing in numerous galleries and completing large public art murals.

Dr. Dziedzic is a Senior Program Officer in the Center for Post conflict Peace and Stability Operations at the United States Institute of Peace. He is presently engaged in compiling a number of case studies for a book to be entitled "Overlooked Enemies of Peace: Subduing Illicit Power Structures."

A retired United States Air Force (USAF) colonel, Dr. Dziedzic served as a senior military fellow at the Institute for National Strategic Studies, National Defense University, where he focused on peace operations, Latin American regional security affairs, and transnational security threats. During his 30 years with the Air Force, he served in a variety of capacities, including professor of national security studies at the National War College, and strategic military planner for the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. His recent publications include: The Quest for Viable Peace: International Intervention and Strategies for Conflict Transformation and Policing the New World Disorder: Peace Operations and Public Safety.

Tiffin Leadership Park The Leadership Seneca County class of 2014 presented their community service project to Tiffin City Council on Monday, February 3, 2014 and was approved by a unanimous 6-0 vote. Leadership Park will be located on the east side of the river, along the water front in an existing grassy area. This area will be developed with the intention for it to be used for Tiffin community events including events for the creative arts and community engagement events.

The development of Leadership Park will give a warm welcome coming into the downtown area with beauty and art leading into an inviting historic area that individuals from all over the Country will pass in route to places like Heidelberg University, The Civil War Museum, or the events at the YMCA and Hedges Boyer park.

Market Street is the gateway to the downtown area, and it is the hope of Leadership Seneca County Class of 2014 to kick off to the beautification and economic revitalization of our downtown.
