Bachelor of Arts in Professional Studies Tiffin University will offer a flexible, career-oriented bachelor of arts in professional studies degree beginning fall semester 2009. The professional studies program is designed for students who have already earned an associate’s degree in a technical or professional field. Students in the major develop their own program to complement their approved technical occupational degree. “The new major will be taught at our main campus and through our accelerated degree completion program in both a seated and online format,” according to Charles Christensen, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. “The professional studies program is specifically for students who wish to continue their education with a bachelor’s degree that is designed around their curriculum. Students pick the upper level courses they wish to include in their major from an array of 18 courses offered as part of the program.”
The program is completed during four semesters with the courses offered in a modular sequence, according to Nancy Sullivan, Dean of Degree Completion and Associate’s Degree Programs. “Upon admission to the professional studies program, the student chooses six of the major courses from the 18 offered,” she explains. “To complete the degree, the student must earn a total of 54 credit hours in the major. Tiffin University will accept 30 hours of approved transfer credit hours from the student’s transfer institution.” More information about enrolling in Tiffin University’s new Bachelor of Arts in Professional Studies degree program is available by contacting Kristin Payne, 1.800.YOU.OHIO (extension 3172).

Tiffin News & Events TU Professor Takes Part in Harvard Executive Leadership Program TU Professor Michael Lewis recently took part in the prestigious Kennedy School of Executive Leadership in Higher Education Program at Harvard University. Lewis, Chair of Tiffin University’s Bachelor of Criminal Justice (BCJ) Degree Completion Program, participated in the advanced crisis leadership and management strategies sections at The Kennedy School, expanding his knowledge in creating an analytical framework for understanding the key issues and concerns relating to the most current issues in national and local security. “As a result of my experience at Harvard University, I have developed a global perspective on how to manage major critical incidents effectively and decisively while maintaining a focus on leading and motivating teams through a variety of extraordinary circumstances,” Lewis says. He adds that his experience, which took place in March 2009, will bring added relevance for TU students in the classroom setting. “I will effectively engage our students through developing a blend of theory and reality based scenarios, lectures, and case studies,” Lewis explains. “These innovative teaching methods will enable our students to focus on developing critical long-term safety and security strategies for our communities.” The executive education program at Harvard was designed for executives, managers, administrators and educators to assist in successfully preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a multitude of critical disastrous events in the most logical and rational manner.
The program attracts participants from across the nation and around the world. Harvard reports that during the past year, executive education participants hailed from 126 countries, and included three ambassadors, 11 ministers, 6 mayors, 10 permanent secretaries and more than 50 legislators. “Leaders everywhere recognize that lifelong learning is no longer an option – it’s a necessity. In the public, private, and nonprofit sectors alike, leading effectively requires a continuous commitment to building new skills, networking, and keeping up with innovative ideas and the latest research,” remarks Joseph Zolner, Director of Harvard Institutes for Higher Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education. “Harvard Kennedy School addresses these needs by offering the most comprehensive range of Executive Education programs in public leadership available anywhere in the world,” Zolner adds. “For over 30 years, we have brought together experienced professionals, a world-class faculty, and a dynamic curriculum in a setting where the common denominator is a shared commitment to public value.” http://www.tiffin.edu/news/lewisharvard/index.html
