Co-Curricular at TU What Is TU’s Co-Curricular Program? The Tiffin University Co-Curricular Program provides personal development and service learning opportunities for students. TU is committed to education both in the classroom as well as in the “real world” – on campus, through work experiences, and through volunteer experiences. The purpose of a college education is to develop into a well- rounded, educated individual. To help facilitate this development process, Tiffin University requires all bachelor’s degree students to participate in the CoCurricular Program. What are the Co-Curricular Requirements? One of Tiffin University’s graduation requirements for students is completion of a total of 26 hours of Co-Curricular credit. Students must earn one unit of Co-Curricular credit for personal development (13 hours), and one unit of credit for service learning (13 hours). All activities must be completed on a volunteer basis, and not required by an employer, professor, or coach. Certain activities such as babysitting, craft and make-up parties, and planning weddings will not be considered for credit. Also, compensation cannot be received for participation.

Founded in 1888, Tiffin University is proud to offer a personal and practical education for motivated, professionally focused students who want real-world experiences and results.

What about Adult Students Returning to School? Students who have earned 50 hours or more of transferable credit prior to enrolling at Tiffin University, or who are 23 years of age or older prior to enrolling at Tiffin University, may satisfy the Co-Curricular requirement by submitting a Co-Curricular Credit Alternative Form, Co-Curricular Alternative Form.pdf, to the Co-Curricular Committee. You can submit personal development and service learning activities for credit that you have completed within the last five years. (continued on page 2)

How to Register your Co-Curricular Hours: In order for you to receive Co-Curricular credit for an activity that you recently completed, you must turn in a Co-Curricular Information Sheet. The Co-Curricular Information Sheets must be completed at the activity site and signed by the site supervisor. The form must then be returned to your advisor to keep a copy in your advising file and the original will be submitted to the Student Affairs Office for approval and recording. Checking Your Co-Curricular Hours: You are able to keep track of the number of Co-Curricular hours you have earned on the Co-Curricular Database. The Co-Curricular Committee only meets once a month; therefore, it may take up to 30 days to receive notification if your hours have been approved or not. If your hours are not approved you will receive notification through your Tiffin University e-mail. The Co-Curricular Database is available on Tiffin University’s Online Portal. Click here to enter the Co-Curricular Database. You will enter your Social Security number with no dashes instead of a Student ID number. If any hours appear in the database, they have been approved.

REVISED ONLINE ATTENDANCE POLICY - EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011 Tiffin University believes that class attendance and learning are related; therefore students are expected to attend/ participate in all scheduled classes. Students are responsible for being aware of the proceedings and material covered in each class period. Students must complete and submit written work on the date set by the instructor. • Students will be required to respond to a threaded discussion and/or submit one assignment to every course scheduled no later than midnight (Mountain Standard Time) of the tenth day of the term to be considered an active student. • A student who has failed to log in and respond to a threaded discussion and/or submit an assignment as of midnight of the tenth day of classes, will be immediately withdrawn from those course(s) by Enrollment Management. • At any point during a course, a student may be assigned a grade of “AF” (Administrative failing grade) by the instructor once the student has missed 25% of the required course (12 consecutive days). Absence in online courses is defined as not participating in discussion threads or turning in assignments. • The University/College reserves the right to initiate an administrative withdrawal or drop a course whenever a student violates the attendance/participation policy. • If a student is unable to participate in a course by midnight on the tenth day of the term due to extenuating circumstances, a decision regarding the student’s status will be made by the Dean of the Degree Completion Program, the Director of Academic Centers and the Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions. If a decision is not unanimous, a final decision will be made by the Vice President of Academic Affairs and communicated to the student.
