DCP Revised Make-Up Assignment Policy Effective February, 2011, please note the changes to the DCP attendance and make-up policy: ATTENDANCE – CLASS Due to the concentrated scheduling and the emphasis upon participatory learning, adult learners need to be in attendance every week. Students are permitted one class session absence in a five or six week course and two class session absences for a seven, ten or eleven week course. What constitutes an absence? When half or more of a class session is missed, the Adult Learner must complete an assignment to make up for the missed course content (the half-time attendance policy is for students in seated courses and does not apply for online courses). For online students a missed class session is due to completing zero work for the week; therefore, no postings and no assignment were submitted by the learner. What are the requirements of the make-up assignment? The make-up assignment is due the week following the missed class, to be turned in at the time the next week’s homework is due. If the make-up assignment is not completed or it does not meet the requirements, the student will receive an “F” for the course. The make-up assignment will be a paper, 4 pages in length, about a topic from the missed class session to be chosen by the instructor. The paper will be, as all Degree Completion Program papers are required to be, in APA format, double spaced, Times New Roman, size 12. A title page and a reference page will be included. The title and reference page will not be counted in the 4 page requirement. The assignment will be graded on a pass-fail basis. Structural guidelines are provided in the Adult Learner Guide for seated courses and in each online course shell. Content of a make-up assignment is at the discretion of the instructor, and is provided in the instructor’s course policy. Instructors will take attendance weekly and immediately report any absence from the module to the Coordinator of Enrollment Management Services for Degree Completion Programs. If more than one class session is missed in a five or six week module or (continued on page 3)

Attendance records are essential in order to comply with regulations established by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs for recipients of VA benefits or federally insured student loans. If long-term medical, family or employment concerns develop, the adult learner must contact the appropriate Tiffin University administrative office immediately.
