Follow Your Dreams Topic of Tiffin University’s Next Good Morning World Breakfast on Thursday, February 20 Tiffin University’s next Good Morning World Breakfast lecture will feature Meteorologist Jay Berschback on Thursday, February 20. Berschback will present “Follow Your Dreams” at Camden Falls Reception & Conference Center, 2460 South SR 231, in Tiffin, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m.

Mr. Berschback appears on 13abc Action News Good Morning as well as on 13abc Action News at noon. He has earned his Television Seal of Approval from both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.

A graduate of the University of Michigan's College of Engineering, Jay earned a bachelor's degree in atmospheric, oceanic, and space sciences (all meteorology degrees). While attending college, he was the fill-in weather anchor at WLNS-TV in Lansing, Michigan, and he worked at a private weather forecasting company called Commercial Weather Services (CWS), Inc. Before Jay came to WTVG-TV, he worked as the morning and noon meteorologist at WTWO-TV in Terre Haute, IN. While in Indiana he anchored the weather, read news stories, interviewed a wide range of guests, and even hosted a live cooking segment.

Jay says that 13 Action News "Live Doppler 13000" and "Vipir" are the most outstanding weather equipment he has worked with to date.

All breakfast lectures take place at Camden Falls Reception Hall located at 2460 South State Route 231 in Tiffin. The format is simple: breakfast is served buffet style at 7:30 a.m., the speaker will present at 8:00 with conclusion by 8:50 a.m. The cost is $12.00.

TU’s Diane Kidd Gallery of Art to Present: “I Have a Dream” Featuring 12 Artists Free Reception February 6, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Open to the Public The Diane Kidd Gallery and the Student African-American Brotherhood of Tiffin University will present “I Have a Dream,” an exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s inspirational speech.

The opening reception is Thursday, February 6 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will end March 6.

In his speech, labeled as one of the most important American speeches in the 20th century, King talked about his dream for equality and justice. This exhibit asks about the legacy of that dream, its implication on society today, the practice of non-violent protest, issues of segregation, diversity, and acceptance, and questions whether King’s dream has been fulfilled.

The exhibit features twelve professional artists and a multi-media installation by the Toledo School for the Arts. Artists include Kamal Al Mansour, John Chang, Brian Cirmo, Françoise Duresse, Daniel Farnum, Ray Ford, Jamie Gardner, Nestor Armando Gil, Ruslana Lev, Lynn Schmidt, Antoine Williams and David Willison.

Their work includes painting, digital images, printmaking, sculpture and photography.

The Toledo School for the Arts installation is a result of collaboration between many students and many programs at that school. Seniors in Advanced Acting wrote and performed two different pieces that have been made into films that will be shown in conjunction with the mural entitled "Struggle" and "I Have a Dream.” The mural was designed and constructed by the Theater Tech Class and the visual imagery will be designed and executed by the theater students and a group of visual arts students who routinely involve themselves with "Visual Art Outreach.” This outreach earns money as part of the student fundraising arm of the Toledo School for the Arts, a charter school. The Visual Arts group is coordinated by Leslie Taylor, the Social Enterprise and Gallery Manager for the school.

This collaborative effort of these groups is also fulfilling a semester arts integration requirement on "multiculturalism." Each year, Toledo School for the Arts staff is given an arts integration theme per semester. Arts and academic teachers pair up and collaborate to complete a project together around that particular semester theme.

Cultural Awareness and National Security February 6 Tiffin University’s School of Criminal Justice is pleased to host Dr. Montgomery McFate in Chisholm Auditorium on February 6 at 11 a.m. Dr. McFate is the Minerva Chair for Strategy and Policy for the United States Naval War College in Newport RI, and she will be speaking on the subject of "Cultural Awareness and National Security." This event is open to the public.

A noted Social Anthropologist, Dr. McFate has many published works on cultrual awareness, but is beast known for having been a key advisor to General David Petraeus in bringing the science of social anthropology to work on the counterinsurgency efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She is currently working for the United States Naval War College as the Minerva Chair for the Center of Naval War Studies.

Previously, she worked for the United States Army Human Terrain System as the Senior Social Scientist and is the recipient of many prestigious awards, including a National Science Foundation Graduate Student Fellowship, a Smith Richardson International Security Grant, and a Yale Fellowship.

STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER News The weather might be cold, but the Student Success Center is always warm! Please stop by if you would like a quiet study environment to work on your class assignments. If you need a little extra help, there are tutors in the SSC to help you. The SSC’s doors open at 8:00 am on Monday through Friday and close at 10 pm each evening except for Friday when the SSC closes at 3:00 pm.

The SSC is also open on Sunday from 5 pm to 9 pm.

To make a tutoring appointment you can call (419-448-3324) or e-mail (ssc@tiffin.edu) and reserve a time for an appointment.

There are Power Hour group sessions to help with Accounting, Math 100, 173, 174, 181, 273, and CIS 111. WINTER WEATHER POLICY Tiffin Campus If a Level 3 snow emergency is officially declared for Seneca County by the Sheriff, classes on the Tiffin campus will be cancelled and University offices will be closed. Unless otherwise communicated by the President or the President’s designee, classes will be held and University offices will be open if a snow emergency is at Level 1 or Level 2.

If a snow emergency at Level 3 has been officially declared for Seneca County, University employees are not expected to travel to the Tiffin campus. Unless otherwise communicated by the President or the President’s designee, faculty members are expected to travel to the Tiffin campus to teach their classes and staff members are expected to travel to the Tiffin campus to report for work if a snow emergency for Seneca County is at Level 1 or 2. If a Seneca County snow emergency is at Level 1 or 2 and an employee chooses not report for work, the employee must inform his or her supervisor and staff members must take annual leave.

An exception to this policy will be made for any employee who lives in a county other than Seneca County that officially has a Level 3 snow emergency when Seneca County’s snow emergency is at Level 1 or 2. In this case, the employee is not expected to travel to the Tiffin campus, but must inform his or her supervisor.

If a Level 3 snow emergency is in effect in Seneca County or the county where the employee lives and then is changed to Level 1 or 2 during the time when classes are scheduled and/or when University offices are normally open, classes will be held and offices will be open once the snow emergency has been changed to Level 1 or Level 2, unless otherwise communicated by the President or the President’s designee.

If classes have been cancelled and University offices have been closed, certain staff members may be designated by the President or the President’s designee as “essential personnel” and may be asked to report for work. Any hourly staff member who is asked to work when the campus has been closed will be paid at a rate of time and one-half per hour. Any exempt staff member who is asked to work when the campus is closed will be given compensatory time off at a later date.

Locations Other Than the Tiffin Campus For Tiffin University classes that are taught at locations other than the Tiffin campus, instructors and other University employees should follow the same procedure as described above. The director of each academic center will serve as the President’s designee to determine and communicate any exceptions when there is a snow emergency of Level 1 or 2 for the county where the academic center is located.
