TU Faculty Elected to ACBSP Committees Two Tiffin University faculty members were recently elected to national-level Member Services Standing Committees at the October meeting of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) Region 4 conference, held in Canton, OH. Dr. Wendy Ziems-Mueller from the School of Graduate and Distance Education will join the national Business/Industry Relations Committee beginning January 1, 2014. The purposes of the Business/Industry Relations Committee is to study changes and trends in business practices and make recommendations to member institutions concerning the improvement of the business curriculum (ACBSP, 2013) From the TU School of Business, Professor Kristina Collins Smart will join the national-level Global Business Education Committee as a representative of Region 4. The purpose of the Global Business Education Committee is to advise the Board on the advancement of the global purposes of ACBSP and its member institutions as well as designing and communicating opportunities for member institutions in global activities (ACBSP, 2013).

Tiffin University’s School of Business undergraduate as well as graduate programs are fully accredited by ACBSP. ACBSP is dedicated to improving the quality of business schools and programs around the world, and ultimately to improving the practice of business in every industry around the world. TU’s Diane Kidd Gallery to Host Annual Columbian High School Show, “Art is Forever” Opening Reception December 5 TU’s Diane Kidd Gallery of Art will host the annual Columbian High School Student Artists Exhibition with a special opening reception on Saturday, December 5, 2013.

The reception will begin at 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the gallery, located inside the Hayes Center for the Arts on the TU campus. The reception is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The show will continue through December 21.

“The Senior Portfolio and Art Investigations classes at Columbian High School are presenting art works dealing with many media areas such as oil painting, printmaking, drawing and computer graphic,” said Robert Johnston, Art Teacher.

“Themes are often used by these high level students. Emotional issues such as relationships or world events really inspire my students. Both of these classes units are independently designed by each student. Many of these works will be entered in regional and state competition.”

SSC News SSC Closed Wednesday Morning On Wednesday this week the Student Success Center will be closed for tutor training from 9 am to 12 pm. At this time there will be no tutoring or study tables.

Workshops Students who have workshop attendance requirements should take careful note of the workshop schedule and plan accordingly. There will NOT be any additional workshops added to the existing schedule, and room capacities will be adhered to as well. The door will be closed as soon as the workshop room is full. Plan on getting to the workshop early to guarantee you have a seat. TU Professor, Jonathan Appel, Ph.D. and TU Student Erin Snapp Co-present at All Ohio Counselors Conference Jonathan Appel, Ph.D., Associate Professor in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences and TU psychology student Erin Snapp presented at the annual All Ohio Counselors Conference in Columbus, Ohio on November 7, 2013. Dr. Appel and Ms. Snapp were part of a research team with Ursuline College (Ohio) that presented empirical results of a year-long research project that has been investigating links between creativity and psychological functioning.

The title of the presentation was “The Relationship Between Measures of Creativity and Mental Health Measures.� The aim of Appel and Snapp in the U.K. when they previously presented this rethe study presented was to determine the search. extent to which multidimensional mental health measures predict measures of creativity as assessed by a measure of creative personality and an inventory of creative behaviors. The study also examined the interrelationships between mental health, personality measures, demographic variables, and measures of creativity. The research found that overall better mental health (emotional stability and low psychoticism, low autistic tendencies) appears associated with creative personality, but increased levels of anxiety, obsessive compulsive and somatization were associated with actual creative activity.

Another major finding of the study was that there was a strong association between the mental health symptom measure of somatization and creativity across measures of creativity. Implications of this research for counseling and psychotherapy were also discussed at the presentation.

The research team is currently preparing the research for publication.

It was also an amazing game to remember as TU hosted Rockhurst in their first ever NCAA Regional postseason game at Paradiso Fields before a crowd of 543. Unfortunately for the Dragons, after 2 hours and 39 minutes and two rounds of penalty kick shootouts, the season ended in a narrow 8-7 defeat after the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

For 51 minutes, Tiffin University and Lake Erie College delivered on the expected shootout.

But over the final 9 minutes, the Dragons turned the ball over on two critical fumbles ultimately leading to two late scores as Lake Erie outdistanced the Dragons 50-32 in the season finale for both schools. The Dragons finish the season 2-9, 1-9 in the GLIAC.

Tomaslav Derezic booted a 19 yard field goal at 12:04 of the fourth quarter to make the score 36-32. The Dragons seemed poised to take the lead as they started to drive into Lake Erie territory, but a costly fumble was recovered by Lake Erie all the way back at the Tiffin 5 yard line at the 9:04 mark.

The Storm capitalized two plays later to make the score 43-32.

Tiffin then started another drive, pushing to the Lake Erie 24 yard line before Pipkin fumbled on another sack at the 7:03 mark, ending another drive. Tiffin University (2-0) used another strong rebounding effort to get their second victory in as many tries, outrebounding Wheeling Jesuit 53-39 en route to a 85-78 victory in their home opener.

Equestrian On Saturday, November 16th the Tiffin University Western IHSA Equestrian Team continued their season at Findlay.

The day started off with Open Horsemanship and team point rider Megan Nutter finishing 3rd in a very competitive class to gain 4 individual and team points.

The Advanced Horsemanship division saw sophomore point rider Emilie Seyfang grabbing a 2nd place finish and 5 team points. Seniors Michelle Holman claimed 4th and Rachael Hudson 5th.
