TU to Dedicate The Murphy Academic Support Center – Wednesday, September 3 – 10:30 a.m. Tiffin University will dedicate The Murphy Academic Support Center on Wednesday, September 3 at 10:30 a.m. The center is an addition to the Pfeiffer Library located at the corner of Miami and Sandusky Streets. Named in honor of TU Trustee Dr. Frank Murphy, who made the philanthropic gesture to create the Murphy Academic Support Center, the new facility houses ofDr. Frank Murphy fices for tutors and success coaches to meet individually with students, a conference room for group tutorials and group study, and a classroom to be used for seminars and workshops related to study skills, career development, and other academic support services, as well as for classes. According to TU President Paul Marion, there are computers for use by students and offices for the Director of Tutoring Services, the Director of Career Development, and the Director of Internships. “The new facade added to the existing library has created an attractive unified appearance for the entire structure consisting of the library and the Murphy Academic Support Center,” Marion said. Murphy, a Wadsworth resident, recalled talking to Marion about the need for the facility, and Murphy agreed with the president's suggestion to construct it as an expansion of the library. Murphy said, “Tiffin University is a sensitive and giving institution that has a lot to be proud of. I firmly believe in higher education.” Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Lil Schumacher said, “The center is now a center for student learning and support. Having tutoring, success coaches, the Director of Career Development, and the Director of Internships located in one place is a tremendous enhancement to the University and on-campus life.” According to Head Librarian Fran Fleet, “This ensures that our library is a learning commons--a facility where students will have access to the assistance and resources they need to succeed academically.”

Ritz Concert Free to TU Students Italian a cappella group CLUSTER presents a rare US appearance at The Ritz Theatre in Tiffin on Saturday, Sept. 6th at 7:30pm. The high-energy group features powerful lead vocals, beatboxing, and tight harmony arrangements of hit songs. The concert is free to Tiffin University students, faculty and staff. CLUSTER gained worldwide recognition with their online video series, "CLUSTER completes the YouTube hits," which features pop harmonizations of eclectic youtube videos. In one video CLUSTER joins Pope Benedict XVI in a reggae version of church mass chant. That particular video captured the attention of current Pope Francis, who tweeted his approval to the world. Considered one of the best vocal groups in Italy, CLUSTER was founded in 2004 by five young musicians from Genoa's Paganini Conservatory of Music. In the last decade the group has earned an huge international reputation, touring the world with their unique pop fusion style. Their Tiffin appearance is only one of four shows they're doing in the country on this, their only second US tour. The concert was booked by TU music department director Brad Rees, through his connections with their US management. "We are really lucky that it worked out that they could make this stop in TIffin," said Rees. "It's not often that short US tours like this one make it to the midwest, usually concentrating their performances on the East and West Coasts." "Cluster is really an amazing group -- we're excited that all TU students, faculty and staff will get to hear their entertaining show." Free TU tickets are available online at www.tiffinmusic.com/cluster.

TU Announces WTUD – An Internet Radio Station 24 Hours a Day – 7 Days a Week

TUDragonradio.com (WTUD), an Internet Radio station, has been implemented on the campus of Tiffin University. This new venture will involve the entire campus (including a “live” event stream) that will be used to broadcast all events (on and off campus), anywhere students, staff, and alumni are celebrated. WTUD will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to Internet radio, WTUD will also concentrate on digital video. Previously, friends and family of the studentathletes that could not attend live events utilized a pay-perview service to view the contests via an outside source. WTUD has enabled TU to bring the video streaming in-house and allows the extended TU family the ability to enjoy TU events from the comfort of their homes at no cost.

“Under Pressure” will feature 6 schools from Northern Ohio: Bowling Green State University, Lourdes University, University of Toledo, University of Dayton, Cleveland State University and Tiffin University.

WTUD will provide a creative outlet for students. Students will now have the opportunity to express themselves vocally, through creative writing and video production from start to finish as well has produce, direct and host their own radio shows.

"It's very exciting to be able to bring art from several colleges and universities in the region to Tiffin University,” said Lee Fearnside, Curator. “Not only will the TU and Tiffin community get to see what other schools are doing, but these schools will get to know Tiffin and the Diane Kidd Gallery."

WTUD will feature different campus departments, organizations, and groups. Listeners will not only benefit athletically, but will also benefit from items of interest that include the Tiffin community.

“WTUD is about TU, by TU, and for TU including the Tiffin community,” said Russ Snyder, WTUD Coordinator and the voice of the TU Dragons. “With this step moving forward, TU continues to offer students an array of creative outlets. WTUD Artist: will support all aspects of campus growth and student inDunya Abrahim volvement.” "This is a dynamic opportunity for our students to get handson experience working in a real media environment," said TU Professor of Communication Jan Samoriski, who coordinates the Electronic Media track within the communication program. “WTUD brings to realization years of work establishing online media as a campus resource and digital classroom.” For more information, contact Russell Snyder at 419.448.5149 or email snyderr@tiffin.edu. 6

TU’S Online M.Ed. Ranked One of 25 Best

TU’s Bereza and Fearnside Present Short Film

Tiffin University’s online Master of Education Degree in Higher Education Administration (M.Ed.) ranked #17 according to “The 25 Best Online Master’s in Educational Administration Degree Programs” by TheBestSchools.org. TheBestSchools.org selected Tiffin’s M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration based on several weighted factors, including academic excellence, course offerings, faculty strengths, and reputation, including reputation for online degree programs. A Master of Education Degree in Higher Education Administration will prepare educators to assume rewarding leadership roles across the full spectrum of educational institutions. The degree, which is flexible and practical, will also provide a solid foundation for future doctoral work in higher education. “It is always wonderful to get this type of acknowledgement as a university,” said Dr. Lillian Schumacher, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Our faculty work hard to continuously improve and enhance our academic programs, regardless of modality, and it is an additional feather in our cap when the outside world recognizes this! The MEd. in Higher Education Administration, in particular, is an extremely attractive and popular program and I anticipate student interest to continue to grow in this discipline.” TheBestSchools.org is a leading resource for prospective students seeking a college or university degree. Many schools in the United States reference these rankings including Auburn University, Boston University, Texas A&M University, Fordham University, and many more. “I am confident that all of our programs will continue the positive momentum of recent years,” said TU President Paul Marion. “We have exceptional faculty leadership at Tiffin University. It is an honor to be recognized yet again.” 7

Tiffin University’s Dr. Matt Bereza, Associate Professor of Psychology and Lee Fearnside, Associate Professor of Art, presented a short film entitled “Bread Elegant” this spring. “Bread Elegant” is about building a small brick oven and fire using found objects at the Collaboration and Innovation Across the Food System Conference at the University of Vermont, Burlington. The film highlights how art and psychology intersect in the food systems world, and how local foods positively affect thought and behavior. “Through primary research, we have learned that people who consistently consume sound food/nutrition have higher self-esteem; achieve higher in school; and have less aggressive behaviors,” said Dr. Bereza. “It is my hope that the movie will demonstrate how over-regulated the local food initiative has become and how lay-people can create an adequate response.” The film is ten minutes long in black and white with sound. University of Toledo Associate Professor of Film and Video Production Holly Hey acted as Director and Cinematographer on the production. “I use art and visual imagery to comment on and interpret the world around me, and psychology does the same thing,” said Fearnside. “I hope that the film not only gets viewers thinking about their relationship to food and food production, but also about collaboration and the different forms that research can take.” Dr. Bereza and Professor Fearnside are teaching together in the honors program using food and the food system as the connection between their art and psychology classes. They began their collaboration after Fearnside completed and exhibited her photographic exploration entitled, “The Local Cheeseburger,” which focused on the alternatives to mass-produced fast-foods such as local farmers. The data collected for the film by Bereza and Fearnside is being set for upcoming publication in the scientific community, and the film has been submitted to various film festivals for screening.

For more information on the film and/or research contact Dr. Bereza at berezam@tiffin.edu or Professor Fearnside at fearnsidel@tiffin.edu.
