Twenty-one years ago, our founder and CEO, Charlie Pigeon, decided that he was going to create a high performance boat company, that above all else, would put the customers experience first.
A lot of boat companies talk about performance as if it were only measured in horsepower, top-speed or ballast weight. But we believe that the ultimate measure of a boat’s performance is how usable it is day in and day out. Over the years we’ve introduced many innovative technologies and industry firsts, each one created to make your time behind the wheel or on your board as perfect as possible. From Tigé’s very first boat in the water, being named Rookie of the Year by Waterski Magazine, to the introduction of our wake-shaping technology that has shaped the industry, we’ve continued to innovate and refine the art and craft of boat building year after year. There are many stories behind each of our successes, but the Tigé story has only just begun. After working at four of the top ski boat makers, Charlie Pigeon sees there’s room for one more.
1981-90 1991 Tigé (short for Charlie’s childhood nickname “Tiger”) is born when Charlie designs and builds his own slalom boat with a small team in Fresno, CA.
The first Tigé, the 2000SLM Comp, performs for the judges at Waterski Magazine and is voted Rookie of the Year. This was the spark that ignited a revolution in boatmaking.

Tigé is named the Official Towboat of the IWSF World Wakeboard Championship Series and launches the first worldwide wakeboard tour stopping in France, South Africa, Japan, Brazil, Australia and Canada.
Making waves—again. Tigé is granted its first patent for TAPS (Tigé Adjustable Performance System) wake-shaping technology.
1995 1993 Tigé’s performance and engineering proves superior and expands to international markets. Today, Tigé is part of a tight-knit family of sales and service dealers in 17 countries worldwide.

2000 1998 TAPS advances to its second generation with the addition of a hydraulic wake plate for on-the-fly adjustments, making Tigé the only inboard with full-trim capability at the touch of a button.
2002 The Fantastic Voyage Summer Road Tour featuring the Tigé ProTeam kicks off in the U.S. Thousands of enthusiasts gather to see the world’s greatest wakeboard athletes in action.
As distinctive as it is useful—the Alpha Z tower is unveiled for 2009 model year, raising the bar in performance and usability. It’s one of the many Tigé design features that make a statement on the water.
After towing athletes all over the world, Tigé’s worldwide wake competition format continues to grow and goes back to the birthplace of wakeboarding with the US Open in Kauai, Hawaii.

Charlie Pigeon saw things differently. The California native saw a sport on the cusp of a revolution—and inboard boats that were stuck in the past. Just as snow skiing was transformed, seemingly overnight, by a daring generation of snowboarders, the rise of wakeboarding and wakesurfing was radically reinventing what you could do behind a boat. Yet those traditional inboard planing hulls weren’t up to the challenge. They were expressly designed to calm the water for smooth skiing, not to churn up wakes and waves demanded by a high-flying younger set. Pigeon saw that families would need one boat that could do it all. Such a boat would require a clean-sheet design that would leave old-school planing hulls in its wake. Pigeon founded Tigé Boats 21 years ago, staking his small family company on a visionary idea: The ConvexV Hull.

Like many innovations, the ConvexV was a simple, elegant solution to a complex problem. Unlike planing hulls, the patented ConvexV design tapers up smoothly near the transom. The shape, in fact, mimics the runner of a wakeboard. That shape allows the boat to settle naturally and sit lower in the water. By eliminating the lift of a planing hull, the ConvexV produced something never before seen in an inboard—a clean, enticing, perfectly formed wake. That precise water-shaping ability is integral to the boat’s layout, not artificially created with cumbersome hardware to weigh a boat down and make it plow through the water. “It was pretty radical at the time, but we knew we had a better design,” Pigeon says. “And now customers are validating that it works.” And as with other innovations, the ConvexV—engineered by this iconoclast start-up— shook up the boating establishment and the established order. “We faced a lot of resistance at first,” Pigeon recalls. “People just assumed that when you build an inboard, you have to put a hook in the back.”
