DEMOCRATIC CHAIR

To see the chair as a combination of different components, we consider it a metaphor for democracy. Each component represents a unique individual in the society. To establish true democracy, some need to sacrifice. The parts that were taken away represents sacrifices to maintain the integrity.

To start from the question about how people decide their destination nowadays, I found out that most people use goole map or social media to decide their destinations.

A unique guest house in Kortrijk for both visitors and locals to re-interpret the city.

SEARCHING

SHARING

Introduction->Impression->Content Leie to Kortrijk is as Thames to London. It offers the city exciting possibilities with nice public spaces along the river and bridges.

TOPICALITY x URBANISM Can social media be a tool to introduce a place? I tried to understand which moments are worth to be recorded and how these moments build an invaluable experience of the city.

RELOCATE

My main idea is to relocate the original architectural elements to the city, and to reuse them by performing different functions.

----------Highstreet

Leie River----

The relocated elements then become a new urban landscape of the city. Also, the blanks in the site arouse curiosities from visitors which encourage interactions between the city and the site.

---------------

---Shopping Street

The idea of reusing it as a pool for the guesthouse came from the topic: give and take, which represents the exchange of elements in the city and the site.

PRINT x DIGITALIZATION

My intention was to look at the relationship between print and digitalization. They are both methods for people to give their own voice. What will the place be like, a place for people to express their ideas independently?

A publication experiment: use any form to put f

forward inspirational ideas and share with people.

...Content Display.... ...Physical vs Virtual...

COEXIST My main idea is to use the inner street as a recurrence of original volumes. The entrance aisle as a symmetrical element of the building leads visitors to experience the space.

SHOP -> COLLECTION

WORKSHOP -> SELF-PUBLISHING

A collection of words, opinions and thoughts are transformed into objects, decoration and space to represent a new way of reading.

The easiest way to publish ideas, inspirations, and thoughts with simple tools and equipments. Pen, Paper, Printer

BOUNDARY The inner street creates distinctive interface and viewpoint to recognize the existence of the original building.

COMMUNITY

The concept is not only about creating personal contents, but also about the cooperation of local shops. By the intervention of social media, a chain of events are expected to stimulate the city.

The way it lands represents god’s answers.

ANATOMY-Form I tried to study the form of bwei, and to show the parts that I thought could be used as clues in the space.

SHELF

A shelf should have a surface for display and storage. Paper itself makes a flat surface. It’s easy to deform depending on the weight we give it.
