Evaluation (See guidance below for more information) You are required to write a 500 word evaluation of this module. (Please type up your evaluation in this box) This year has had the most influential impact on my practice by far, both personally and professionally. I have developed a professional portfolio and a direction in which to take it, as well as a style that works with my image making skills. Having struggled in the past to place my work into a context, this module gave me the freedom to explore what context suits my practice and my values best. By understanding what I want to get out of a brief through consistent reflection and development, I have come to realize that reportage illustration is something I am extremely passionate about. I have explored a variety of contexts this year, trying to discover this. This has only enhanced my knowledge and skill set, and made me feel comfortable to tackle an array of briefs, which has been great professional practice for me. If I had stuck to documentary illustration the whole way through, I wouldn’t have reached the point I’m at now. I have learnt the importance of process, and how this has the ability to improve my final resolutions. By feeding in theories such as open and closed modes of creativity, I am able to understand my process logically and creatively. Process and play have become essential factors within my practice, and I now understand the importance of developmental drawings. Sketchbooks, both personal and brief led have massively influenced my work, and I aim to keep a personal sketchbook wherever I go from now on. I have finally discovered a style that works well for me, that I have refined in the last few months. It has aided my practice with visual coherency, which was something my portfolio was lacking. Reflections on my blog and in tutorials helped me realize that I could capitalise on this process and develop it into an appropriate method to suit my fmp. Feeling confident with this process, has helped my personal confidence within my work, as well as given my practice a visual signature. It has helped me improve with my use of colour, enhanced my knowledge on composition and helped me to create final resolutions to a professional standard. Research into documentary illustration has kept my motivation going all year, and I have made sure that I have been in the studio working every day in order to improve my practice. By doing this, my organizational and time management skills have improved vastly, and I now enjoy working hard to reach resolutions that are to the best of my ability. I have definitely seen my practice improve visually this year, which is incredibly encouraging. Developing various systems to record information in order to document my subjects effectively has given me the confidence to go out and document real world issues in the future, having just confirmed a voluntary position in Greece this summer, where I will be going to document the refugee crisis. One of the main things I’ve learnt this year is that I want my work to evoke social positive change, which I am excited to take into the future.
Evaluation Guidance This should be a reflective summary of your experience across the module -

-
What learning took place? What was useful to you? Be specific. New skills? New methods? New processes or approaches? Did you use the blog to reflect on your project development?
-
What went well and why? What did you enjoy? What were you happy with as an outcome? Be critical and analytical. Why did you enjoy it? Perhaps identify particular sessions? This could be ideas, solutions to problems, studentship or research. How well did you use the studio? Did you invest enough time in the development and testing of your outcomes?
-
What could you have done better? What were the problems you faced? What did you do to try to overcome them? This could be in reference to studentship, organization, blogging as much as studio practice.
-
How can you apply what you have learnt here for future modules and projects? Application and future thinking. Things you would do differently next time? What useful methods, processes and ideas will you take forward into the next module?
You may also want to consider: Self-questioning: How did your thoughts and opinions change as you progressed through the module? Feedback: What other people (tutors and peers) thought of work and how you responded to that feedback? Research: Did you use contextual research to inform your ideas, ways of thinking or understanding of the challenges set. This may include further research of your subject matter, slides from the presentations or use of the library.
