While standing does less harm than sitting, standing too long can also be bad. Studies have shown that the best way to stay healthy and maximize productivity is to change your position every once in a while. Alan Hedge, professor of ergonomics at Cornell University recommends sitting 20 minutes out of every half hour of work, standing for 8 minutes and moving around for 2 minutes.
THE SOLUTION. In order for users to effortlessly and frequently interchange their desk from a standing to a sitting position, Levi is created. Unlike most of the ergonomically friendly furniture, Levi isn’t just designed to be functional but also aesthetically appealing.
The double surface desk allows users to keep their screen at eye level and keyboards on the lower surface in order to provide minimal eye strain and typing comfort. The slot is perfect for keeping any stationaries in place.
The slow retracting mechanism is commonly used by projector screens, it lets users to move the desk up and down smoothly and stop it at any desired height.
With the aid of ergonomic assessment tools, Levi is designed to be adjustable to suit users from 5’2” sitting to 6’2” standing.
User Height : 5’2”
User Height : 6’2”
Position: Sitting
Position: Standing
45.5” 23.5”
The adjustable locking mechanism, complete with rubber friction lining to ensure safety, enables users to secure the desk at the appropriate height. The cutouts on the sides create a firmer grip for users to adjust the desk with ease.
Tim Hsieh | BFA | UIUC Industrial Design My passion for industrial design has motivated me to explore and experience design across the globe. Originally from Taiwan, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to pursue a degree in the U.S., study abroad in England and conduct field research in India. Each international immersion and interdisciplinary collaboration has allowed me to see things from brand new perspectives and truly grow as a designer. I used to think design is about making things look fancy, but now I strive to design for impact.
