he Showdown begins each spring with over 450 local talent contests sponsored by local country music radio stations. Winners advance to their respective State competitions held at leading fairs and venues to compete for a $1,000 prize, the State Title and the opportunity to advance to the Regional Finals — the last step before the prestigious, televised National Final. There they compete for the Grand Prize of $100,000 and the title of "Best New Act in Country Music."

LUMBERJACK LUMBERJILL COMPETITION When: Sat., Sept. 21 • Where: Livestock Arena On-site Registration: 5:30 p.m. Contest Begins: 6:00 p.m.

FAMILY FEUD When: Sun., Sept. 22 • Where: Exhibit Hall • Begins: 5:00 p.m.

A fun, exciting favorite returns as contestants compete in sawing, log rolling, pulpwood tossing and pole climbing. You won’t want to miss this one. Come cheer on your favorite or better yet, join the fun and see if you can become Lumberjack or Lumberjill of the Year!

GENERAL RULES 1) This contest is open to adults only (16+ years) and will include a women’s division this year. 2) Competitors are required to sign a harmless agreement prior to competing in the event. 3) Winners of each event will be assigned points as follows: 1st place - 5 points; 2nd place - 3 points; 3rd place - 1 point. 4) The order of events will be as follows, in each division: a) Crosscut Saw - One Man/One Woman c) Pulpwood Toss b) Log Roll d) Pole Climbing 5) The lumberjack with the most points at the end of the competition will win the Lumberjack of the Year trophy and an additional $100 in prize money.

Prizes for Each Event:

gingerbread house D E C O R AT I N G When: Mon., Sept. 23 • Where: Exhibit Hall Check-in: 6:00 p.m. • Begins: 6:30 p.m. Youth are provided with plain gingerbread houses, frosting and candy decorations. Contestants are given 30 minutes to decorate their gingerbread house and then are judged on creativity and quality of work.

EGG PREP CONTEST When: Thurs., Sept. 26 • Where: Exhibit Hall • Begins: 6:30 p.m. (Sponsored by Chattahoochee Valley Poultry Association)

Master Gardener Extension Volunteers are known far and wide for their expertise in all areas of gardening. Watch Coweta County and Fayette County volunteers battle it out this year for the title of:

“2013 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Champion”

The first place team will also receive a gift certificate to Blooming Flour Bakery for their next social event! Whether it’s veggies, flowers or trees, they are no match for MGEVs. This jeopardy style competition will include topics ranging from turfgrass to trees and everything in between.

Door prizes will be drawn for audience members so come early to grab a good seat.

birthday cake decorating When: Tues., Sept. 24 • Where: Exhibit Hall Check-in: 6:30 p.m. • Begins: 7:00 p.m. Contestants are given one hour to decorate a cake. Competitors provide their own baked cake, frosting and supplies needed to decorate. Entries are judged on appearance and decoration of the cake.

Age Groups: 5 – 12 Years • 13 – 18 Years

STEAK COOK-OFF When: Sat., Sept. 28 • Where: Pavilion behind Exhibit Hall Begins: 6:00 p.m. (Coordinators: Marcia Callaway, Sara Kinser, Libby Parham & Teresa Allen)

Competitors present a demonstration highlighting the incredible versatility of the egg and featuring an egg dish they have made. Open to youth in 5th - 12th grade.

Prizes: 1st Place: $50 • 2nd Place: $30 3rd Place: $20

Competitors ages 10 and up are given an hour and a half to prepare and cook a provided Flat Iron steak. Steaks are judged on taste, ease of preparation and appearance of entry. All other ingredients and supplies are the responsibility of the competitor. Participant must provide his or her own grill for the competition.

Awarded by a representative of the Coweta County Cattlemen’s Association, in the form of a check, immediately following judging are:

Best in Department, $30 It is possible for an exhibitor to win more than one award within a Division.

Art Dept., Essence of Agriculture Award - $15 Photography Dept., Capturing Agriculture Award - $15 Baked Goods Dept., Best Georgia Produce Recipe - $15. One adult and one youth winner overall will be selected for each of these special awards.

Driving Directions FROM COLUMBUS (I-85 North) Take Exit 41. Turn left onto U.S. 27/29 North (toward Newnan). Take the first street to the LEFT past Waffle House (Pine Road). Fairgrounds Complex will be on your left after crossing the railroad tracks. FROM ATLANTA (I-85 South) Take Exit 41. Turn right onto U.S. 27/29 North (toward Newnan). Take the first street to the LEFT past Waffle House (Pine Road). Fairgrounds Complex will be on your left after crossing the railroad tracks. FROM NEWNAN, take U.S. 29/27 South (Greenville Street). Pine Road turns off to the right before you reach the turn-off to the right of Georgia Highway 16 East and the Ramada Inn. Complex will be on your left after crossing the railroad tracks. FROM HIGHWAY 16 WEST When you get near Newnan, you will pass Orchard Hills Golf Course. Go to the stop sign (you will pass over I-85 between Orchard Hills and the stop sign).
