The city of Newnan has rescheduled the annual Christmas Parade. The parade will now be held on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. The original parade scheduled for Dec. 8 was rescheduled due to predicted inclement weather, according to Ashley Copeland, communications manager for the city of Newnan. “The decision to reschedule the parade was not an easy decision to make, but the decision was made for the safety and protection of all of those participating and attending,” Copeland said. The route for the parade will remain the same, beginning at Armory Road and travel against traffic on LaGrange Street. It will be making a right turn on North Court Square, going around the square to turn right on East Court Square, and ending at Greenville Street. RPM had planned to have pet photos w it h Sa nta Clau s la st weekend but has arranged with North Pole authorities and the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society to have the photo opportunity with Santa from 12-4 p.m. on Dec. 15, according to Sandy Hiser with the humane society.

T he development i s de si g ne d to b e a way for older adults, including residents of A rbor Springs, to “downsize." The proposed homes

The new proposal is in addition to the 78 units of senior housing at A rbor Spr i ng s t h at were approved in 2014. The infrastr ucture for that development is in place, and the homes are advertised as costing in
the $400,000s. Developer Dan Zavada said that the senior development will have golf cart paths connecti ng to t he chu rch a nd the commercial sector. Several Arbor Springs residents spoke in favor of the project. Barbara Nelan, president of the homeow ner ’s a ssoci ation, said that “Dan has been promising us this for 19 years." The commercial rezoning approved this week a lso adds nea rly seven acres of commercial space to the 12
acres t hat were zoned commercial in 2002 b u t n e ve r d e ve lo p e d . There is also an area of property zoned Office/ Institutional. Chantilly Potatoes a family favorite BY AMELIA ADAMS
For The Newnan Times-Herald
When we do see those who mean so much around a table, family favorites often star. As we make plans with concerns over our diets and waistlines, some fresher substitutions with fewer calories appear. However, t here a re no such
requests from my diners. A favorite, wh ich c a n be m ade a he ad , i s Chantilly Potatoes. My friend Pat Odom has a fine recipe in “Taste of Georgia.” My ingredients are similar and can be varied. The Chantilly staple, whipped cream, is identical.
Chantilly Potatoes 3 ½ pounds Yukon gold potatoes, sliced ¼ cup whipping cream or half and half ½ cup butter ¼ cup fresh chives (optional) ¼ cup sour cream 1 cup whipping cream Freshly ground pepper 2 cups sharp cheddar
Boil peeled and sliced potatoes in salted water until a knife pierces the slices easily. Drain and place back on the stove to cook out excess water. Place the potatoes in a mixer, or use a hand-held mixer and whip
the potatoes with the butter until it melts. Add the sour cream, pepper and cream or half-half and beat until smooth. Taste and correct seasoning. Pour in a 9x13 baking dish and allow to cool. The casserole may be made ahead of time at this point. If refrigerated, allow to cook until the center is warm. Prepare the whipped cream, add the cheese and place on top of the potatoes. Bake in a 350 oven until the top is a lovely brown. I often use a bit of sour cream rather than cream to cut down on the calories.
