“A passionate and caring school system dedicated to excellence, energized by the notion of family, and committed to the success of each student.” That is how the AdvancED Accreditation Review Committee described the Coweta County School System, following their review for five-year re-accreditation of our schools in 2016. According to the independent team’s evaluation, Coweta Schools performed at much higher levels than the average AdvancED-accredited learning institutions, in terms of teaching and learning, leadership capacity, and management of resources. During accreditation, school system stakeholders – including students and parents, teachers and community members – described Coweta Schools in several ways:

“Student-Centered” “Caring” “Amazing” “Exceptional” “Accountable” “Safe” “Nurturing” “Rigorous” “I would not want to be anywhere else.” “Committed” In the Coweta County School System, you will find schools among the top-performing in the state of Georgia and the nation: • On-time graduation rates and student performance on Georgia Milestones exams that well exceed state of Georgia averages. • Student SAT and ACT performance that exceeds state and national averages. • High rates of participation in Advanced Placement, college dual-enrollment and apprenticeships and work-based learning. • Distinctions such as a robust fine arts curriculum, outstanding athletic programs, a sophisticated technology environment including 1-to-1 pairing of students with Chromebook devices, and other advanced opportunities for students. • Honors that include AP Stem and Humanities distinctions, state Reward schools, Georgia School Boards Association Exemplary School Board, state financial awards, state and national distinctions for high return on educational investment, and Georgia’s 2018 State Superintendent of the Year. Prosperity’s Front Door The Newnan-Coweta Chamber is the largest business organization in Coweta County, operating as a private, non-profit, membership-driven organization committed to building a strong local economy and strengthening, enhancing, and protecting local business. Recognized in the TOP two percent of chambers nationally, The Newnan-Coweta Chamber is a 71-year-old, pro-business advocacy organization serving 800 members. Boasting an impressive history of strong results, this 5-Star Accredited Chamber is the first of only two chambers in Georgia to be named a National Chamber of the Year. Accreditation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is a prestigious honor that distinguishes the high quality, expertise, and strong leadership displayed by accredited state and local chambers of commerce. There are 7,000 chambers in the United States with only 207 of these chambers accredited and only 120 recognized as 5-Star chambers.

In June of 2018, the Chamber once again celebrated 5-Star Accreditation, a recognition bestowed upon less than 2% of Chambers nationwide. Accreditation with the United States Chamber of Commerce is the only program of its kind that defines excellence in chamber planning and recognizes chambers for outstanding contributions toward positive change in their communities. The purpose of the U.S. Chamber’s Accreditation Program is to facilitate continuing excellence in the chamber industry and to foster a pro-business environment across America.

Letter from the 2018 Chair and President/CEO DRIVING COWETA’S FUTURE In Coweta County, we are incredibly fortunate to live and work among so many others who have a vested interest in our future. These are people who care deeply about how we grow, not only for their own interests but for the collective interests of future generations. Coweta is magical, comprised of a community of inspired leaders who, along with the Newnan-Coweta Chamber, have come together through the years to serve as drivers in the many innovations that have positioned our county as exemplary. From the efforts to establish and foster the ingenuity that is the Central Educational Center to the thoughtful creation of the Georgia Consortium for Advanced Technical Training (GA CATT) and onto the film industry in rendering Coweta the “Hollywood” of the south, Coweta is growing, thriving, and progressing. In 2015, the Newnan-Coweta Chamber became the first Georgia Chamber awarded National Chamber of the Year. Since 2013, it has earned the coveted five-star rating held by less than two percent of the nation’s chambers. All of these achievements are direct results of thoughtful strategies designed to prioritize long-term and high-impact goals - objectives that have been embraced by our membership and by the community at large. The initiatives undertaken by our Chamber have an immediate and long-lasting impact on the citizens and the businesses that call Coweta home, but each action that we’ve taken also originates from a personal passion that drives us to navigate the private and public spaces that transform the community and create long-term prosperity. Letter from the 2019 Chairperson of the Board DEAR CHAMBER MEMBERS, I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as the 2019 Chair of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber, and look forward to the progress that we will continue as Coweta’s largest business advocacy organization. For more than 70 years, the Newnan-Coweta Chamber has maintained the mission of creating economic prosperity for our membership. Endeavoring to create a stronger, more proactive voice that yields increased economic prosperity, we’ve been at the forefront of several initiatives. Helping Coweta become a healthcare destination, strengthening relationships with cities and government officials, helping develop a more skilled workforce through the GA CATT program or more “affectionately known” as the German Apprenticeship Program, and using our voice to facilitate initial conversations that led to the LINC or linear paths project are just a few of these strategic initiatives. So, what will 2019 bring? We are set to raise the bar even higher. We spent more than a year developing an impactful three-year Strategic Plan. Membership engagement, advocacy and public policy, chamber stewardship and talent development will continue to be a vital part of our strategic role, but we’ve expanded our focus by adding community prosperity as a new emphasis. We will continue to work hard to foster a community that is the pre-eminent place to learn, work, play and thrive! To achieve this goal, we’ll invite community stakeholders to partner with us to create a shared Coweta vision. Like both the Vision 2020 and the Be Something Different initiatives that came before, this new comprehensive vision will be the guiding light for the next decade or more. Exotic Pet Veterinarian Dr. Sara Collins grew up in Augusta, GA and attended the University of Georgia for both undergrad and veterinary school. She then completed a small animal rotating internship and then an exotic specialty internship at Auburn University. Coweta Safety Alliance educates businesses, community members on workplace safety best practices Airgas’s Stan Queener practices fire extinguishing with a state-of-the-art training simulator.

The Chamber’s Advocacy Division supports both industrial and general business by continuing its efforts to provide guidance and training via the recently rebranded Coweta Safety Alliance. Originally formed under the auspices of the Chamber Newnan-Coweta Chamber Program as the Coweta County Industry Safety Council, the Alliance is comprised of safety professionals who have the desire to share their collective knowledge to the benefit of industry compliance with OSHA regulations and to ultimately maintain a safe and healthy local workforce. Alliance members believe that it takes the combined efforts of local companies and vested community members in order to effectively promote safe work practices. The Safety Alliance addresses topics ranging from suicide prevention and solutions to workplace drug abuse to OSHA rules and crisis management. In November 2018, the Alliance sought to educate the local workforce on safe driving following the “Hands-Free Law” enacted in July 2018. Guest speaker Trooper Garrett Smith, with the Georgia State Patrol, facilitated an information session on safe driving practices, smart vehiclerelated decisions, and the new Safe Driving Law’s offense stipulations. October’s meeting featured guest speakers Fire Marshal Blaine Shirley and Fire Inspector Enrico Dean, both from the Coweta County Fire Department, to discuss “Fire Safety Month.” They shared best practices on both residential and workplace fire prevention measures. “Not only did they communicate the importance of being prepared for a fire but they also had the tools for hands-on fire extinguisher training and used a state-of-the-art simulator so that everyone could see how it worked,” shared member Stan Queener, Director of DOT Compliance with Airgas. “It sure beat the ‘old school’ hands-on training of lighting a fire in the parking lot.” The Coweta Safety Alliance meets monthly at the Summit 1825 Building in Newnan. Pancakes & Politics

October’s Political HobNob provided an opportunity for candidates to meet Coweta voters and deliver a short stump speech. Newnan’s Historic Train Depot lent a whistle-stop atmosphere with some candidates harnessing an opportunity to address the crowd from atop an actual tree stump.

In April, members of the Coweta legislative delegation attended our annual Pancakes & Politics breakfast at the Newnan Country Club and gave us a wrap-up of the 2018 legislative session. Chris Clark of the Georgia Chamber moderated a panel of local delegates including Senator Matt Brass, Representative Josh Bonner, Representative Lynn Smith, and Representative Bob Trammell. The next Pancakes & Politics event is scheduled for April 24, 2019, presented by AT&T, the Chamber’s Legislative Sponsor.

Candidate Forums

In order to inform and educate our members and the greater Coweta community, the Chamber, in partnership with CowetaFayette EMC, sponsored two sets of Candidate Forums at the Central Educational Center (CEC) for the federal, state, county commission, school board, and municipal election cycles of 2018. The first of two rounds of forums took place on April 23rd and 24th, featuring candidates for the Coweta County Commission District 2 Republican primary and the School Board District 1 (at-large). Districts 1, 3, and 4 participated in a modified version of the League of Women Voters forum. Two-minute openings by each candidate were followed by a series of questions vetted by

the Chamber’s Voice of Business Committee. Each candidate also had an opportunity to offer a twominute closing statement. The same procedure was followed for the second evening with primary candidates for District 72 State House, District 71 State House, District 70 State House, and both Democratic and Republican primaries for US Congress District 3. Moderators and timers for these forums included Chamber members Dean Jackson, Marvin McKoy, Ginger Queener, Michelle Boyd, and Chellie Phillips. September brought federal, state, and municipal general election candidates together for two sessions at the CEC. Session 1 hosted candidates for

US Congress District 3, District 71 State House, and District 132 State House. Participating in Session 2 were municipal candidates from Sharpsburg, Grantville, and Newnan. The videos of each Forum were televised by NuLink | WOW! and made available on the Chamber website. Summaries of all responses to the candidate questionnaire were also accessible to the community at large from the onset of early voting through election day. The Chamber will continue the practice of advocating for local business by engaging with our elected officials and providing opportunities for the community to learn more about candidate platforms.

Coweta Works is an innovative Chamber program that first launched in 2018. An innovative, high energy, hands-on, and interactive career exposition with activities across eight relevant career worlds, Coweta Works provides information to help students make smart choices for their future. Designed for 8th-grade students from Coweta’s six public middle schools, with invitations also extended to private schools in Coweta County, this highly successful expo was born of a collaboration between the Chamber, the Coweta County Development Authority, and the Coweta County School System. The now annual winter expo is a community collaboration, featuring industry leaders, construction companies and local manufacturers, along with healthcare, public safety, and utility providers. Each of the nearly 40 original career presenters spent two consecutive days at the Central Educational Center sharing their specific world of work. In support of the event, community volunteers played an important role in keeping the expo running smoothly and expanding the student career path experience. With positive feedback from students and their teachers, planning began in August for the 2019 reprisal. Coweta Works - Discover Your World has since grown to nine career worlds featuring 50 career presenters. This talent development opportunity has created awareness among both students and educators about the exciting career options that exist in Coweta. Visitors leave the expo understanding more about Coweta’s workforce needs and the opportunities for education and training available through the CEC and via dual enrollment at both West Georgia Technical College and the University of West Georgia-Newnan.

Ambassador Committee The Ambassadors are known as the Chamber’s volunteer public relations team and are highly visible throughout the membership community, tasked with engaging, encouraging, nurturing, and expanding relationships on behalf of the Chamber. Ambassadors support Chamber events and provide guidance and mentorship to new and existing members. Not only do they foster relationships with our new members, but also ensure that all members feel welcome and at home at Chamber functions. Ambassadors play a key role in the retention strategy of the Chamber with a goal of encouraging engagement by way of a wealth of knowledge and experience. Throughout the year, the Chamber recognizes Zack Holt accepts the award for 2018 Ambassador of the Year from the Chamber’s Susan Kraut. the tremendous efforts of the Ambassadors via the Ambassador of the Month program and each year recognizes one exemplary leader at the Annual Meeting. The 2018 honor was bestowed upon Zack Holt, Director of Engineering at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Zack was named the Ambassador of the Month for November 2017 and August 2018. As an Ambassador, Zack hopes to “support community business with opportunities and develop a rich professional connection with business partners.” The 2019 Ambassador Committee is chaired by Kim Beasinger of Champion Cleaning Systems and Michelle Bright of Home2 Suites Newnan. State of the Community Luncheon Series

In collaboration with presenting sponsor NuLink | WOW!, the Chamber continued the State of the Community luncheon series which focused on local leadership and the collective vision for the future of Coweta. At the March luncheon, we welcomed Congressman Drew Ferguson of Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District to give us an update on issues including the economy, changes to the tax code, and talent development. In 2019 the Chamber will drill down on the issues that impact the continued quality of life in Coweta, including housing, transportation, and business and retail via a roster of thoughtful speakers, presenters, and panelists.

Historically held the first Wednesday in May, the NewnanCoweta Chamber Golf Classic is the premier event of the year south of Atlanta. 2018 Prosperity Awards Coweta County has become known as Prosperity’s Front Door, where the Chamber and local stakeholders work together to ensure that we cross the threshold as a community united. 2018 Volunteers of the Year Award Each year the Chamber recognizes exemplary leadership by one or more members who lend their time, talents, and generosity of spirit to the benefit of the membership at large. Two previous Leadership Coweta graduates put those words into action as the Chamber’s 2018 Volunteers of the Year.

2018 Chairman’s Award Each year at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting, an active member is recognized for outstanding contributions to the organization and its members.

Over the past 18 months, Amanda Fields of the Coweta County Development Authority and Joe Crain III of Crain Oil Company have co-chaired the 2019 Leadership Coweta class, giving hours of their time to program planning, coordination and facilitating class days. In that same time frame, Amanda launched Coweta Works – Discover Your World in collaboration with the Chamber. This far-reaching project pulled together our educational systems and representatives from over 50 local industries. This is the first step in talent development for our community’s 8th graders. With a clear understanding of the crucial partnership between citizens and school, Joe began serving on the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools soon after graduation from Leadership Coweta. He has recently committed his skills and talent as the Board Treasurer. Joe’s work with CIS strengthens its impact to keep students engaged, involved and moving toward success despite facing difficult circumstances.

Phil Trickey receives the Chairman’s Award in recognition for his ongoing contributions to the Chamber.

Phil Trickey of Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation is one such contributor who lends his time and expertise to informing Chamber best-practices. Consistently willing to share his business and financial savvy, Phil serves on both the Chamber’s Board of Directors and the Finance Committee and contributes as a Board orientation trainer. The Chamber’s go-to for advice and counsel (as well as Robert’s Rules of Order), Phil is valued beyond measure.

2018 Small Business Awards

Unexpected Moments of Happiness The 2018 Small Business Awards and Celebration Luncheon yielded a fresh approach to honoring Coweta’s energetic small business community with a refreshed format, new accolades, and an inspiring keynote presentation by Nick Carse, co-founder of Atlanta-based King of Pops. King of Pops makes tasty ice pops with high-quality ingredients and interesting flavor combinations and sells them through pushcarts throughout metro Atlanta. Radiating positivity born of an interesting life story, Carse was the ideal choice to motivate and inspire Coweta’s small business community. Presented by SouthTowne Motors of Newnan and UBS Financial Services, the annual Small Business Awards serve to acknowledge those businesses which are key contributors to our local economy and those which lead the majority of our workforce across the threshold to prosperity. Honorees were recognized in the Entrepreneur, Employer, Growth and Overall categories. The reimagined awards luncheon also carried with it a new honor for some of Coweta’s most treasured small businesses via the inaugural Legacy Award. Lindsey’s Realtors and Crain Oil Company ultimately shared the top honor, as their nearly identical reputations as multi-generational businesses born of community engagement and Chamber advocacy made for an impossible choice between the two. The 2019 Small Business Awards and Celebration Luncheon will be held on August 28th at the Newnan Centre. Walkin’ Through the Winter Wonderland November 28, 2018 brought together hundreds of business and service providers and greater-Coweta community members for the 24th annual Winter Wonderland BIGExpo, presented by Delta Community Credit Union. This highly anticipated event reliably carries with it an opportunity for businessto-business and businessto-consumer promotions and lead generation, but this year’s Expo went a bit further in embracing the spirit of the season via the Delta Community Giving Tree. In celebrating their tenth anniversary as the Presenting Sponsor of the well-attended business exposition, DCCU partnered with the Chamber in soliciting donations to the benefit of the Coweta County Family Connection’s RePack the BackPack Resource Expo. In exchange for free admission to the Expo, guests were asked to bring school supplies to be provided to Coweta students during the annual drive this January. Dozens of local students benefited from the effort and CCFC Coordinator Carol Bresinger reported a “carload of supplies,” to the tune of over 1,500 items totaling over $2,000. Also new in 2018, attendees enjoyed added value via the NuLink | WOW! Santa’s Satchel Goodie Bag and Santa Tracker Punch Card, the latter of which ensured quality time with vendors and a chance to win one of several exceptional offerings generously donated

by exhibitors. Included in the giveaway was a fully decorated Delta Community Tree in the image of the beloved Frosty the Snowman and decked with snowman-themed ornaments, festively provided courtesy of Expo participants.
