Head Coach Matt Altobello Season: 2nd Matt Altobello brought plenty of coaching and playing experience to Moorefield when he assumed the head coaching position a year ago. A 2004 Keyser High graduate, Altobello was a three-year varsity player for coach Tom Preaskorn, as an offensive tackle and a defensive lineman for the Golden Tornado. He continued his career at NCAA Division I Marshall University, playing for head coaches Mark Pruitt and Mark Snyder. Altobello, a 2008 graduate of Marshall, was an offensive lineman with the Thundering Herd. Altobello began his coaching career at Lawrence County High School in Louisa, Kentucky. He was an assistant coach there for two seasons, then served as an assistant for two years at Cabell Midland in Ona, West Virginia, and for three years was an assistant coach and head strength and conditioning coach at White Knoll High School in Red Bank, South Carolina. In addition to his head coaching duties, Altobello will again be the
defensive coordinator for the Yellow Jackets.

Funk led the team in total tackles (60), tackles for loss (9) and sacks (4), while Jenkins had 49 total, 42 solo and five tackles for loss. “The strength of this MYERS unit is going to come from the offseason training and weightlifting program,” Altobello said. “Those guys have taken it on themselves to really buy into it and really work to build their bodies to a point where we actually look like a team in size. Last year, we’d CYRUS walk out and it was like, ‘Holy cow, where did they get those guys and where do we get some?’” Altobello said of some of the opponents. “Strength is big for us, and also athleticism from the back and linebackers being able to make some FUNK
plays. We’re going to do some different things schematically from last year, and rely on strength up front and athleticism from the back.” In what has become an era of the quality R. HEDRICK kicker around these parts, Moorefield’s got one in Atikilt Tamiru, who booted a 51-yarder as a freshman. He made 5 of 7 field goals last year as a sophomore and was second-team All-Area. “He has improved from last year. His leg’s a bit stronger,” said Altobello. “He’s got a heck of a leg on him, and it’s just down to working on consisTAMIRU tency, doing the same thing over and over without thinking about it. I feel good anywhere, if we need points, from about the 32- to 40-yard range. I feel like I have confidence to put him out there and we’ll get points.” Tamiru will also handle the punting and kickoff chores, too. Last year he averaged just under 30 yards per punt with a long punt of 57 yards.
