Head Coach Winston Redman Season: 1st Winston Redman returns to coach at his alma mater, and while this will be his first year as the head coach, he returns with plenty of coaching experience under his belt. Thirty-four years to be exact, and on two continents. Redman, a 1982 graduate of Petersburg, was a quarterback at Petersburg from his sophomore season through his senior season, and continued a twosport career at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia, attending on a football and baseball scholarship. He had an opportunity to play professional baseball, but turned it down coming out of high school. He attended a Pirates tryout at Three Rivers Stadium in 1982, and was offered a rookie league contract, but opted instead for football. Having been recruited by several college programs, including Norfolk State and Appalachian State, Redman, a football quarterback and a baseball pitcher, chose Norfolk, where he played both sports. But his career ended in 1984 after suffering a neck injury against Hampton in the Fish Bowl game that season.

With football over, Redman joined the military, serving in the U.S. Army for 22 years. During that time, he served as a football coach for many years and in many places, including: Dindlock and Nuremberg, Germany, as offensive line and special teams coach; and at

Petersburg: Base defense will be 4-2-5 CONTINUED FROM 5 on defense, and really rip our gaps and get better at pursuing,” Redman said. “We’ve been working hard on that ... getting numbers to the ball.” Tingler, a returning honorable mention All-Area, is the top returning tackler, DAY having had 56 total, 40 solo, and a team-high 13 tackles for loss in addition to five sacks. Sindledecker had 27 solos and 10 assists, and Nuzum 27 total, 13 solos and three interceptions. Probable starters on the defensive MOOMAU side are Sindledecker and Tingler at the ends and Brill and Rohrbaugh at the tackles. The linebackers will likely be Day and Charlie Moomau on the outside and Wyatt Arbaugh and Jacob Bevins on the inside. In the secondary, it will likely be Perez and Joe Redman at the corners and Nuzum at safety. “We know what our philosophy is. We’re playing a 4-2-5, but sometimes we will have an odd front. We’re still trying to find those pieces. We have

Van Meter ARBAUGH is expected to handle the kickoffs and Sindledecker the extra points. Tingler is among those in the mix to punt.
