Read a Living Book Sunday, August 28, Highland Park Library, Highland Park

All those die-hard Elvis fans unable to visit Memphis during Elvis Week 2022, can now enjoy the Virtual Elvis Week 2022 live from Graceland. Viewers can celebrate the legacy of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll with live online concerts and unique fan experiences. Visit the library and take a book like no other—a Living Book. How would you like to meet someone you may not normally meet? Learn about different peoples’ life experiences? Challenge some of your own assumptions? Highland Park Library presents Whiriwhiri Kōrero Woven Stories. Are you ready to ‘borrow’ a person for a reading experience you will not forget? This event is part of Auckland Libraries’ We Read Auckland. For more information: suneeta.narula@ aucklandcouncil.govt.nz, call: 09 377 0209.

Antique and Collectibles Fair August 13 and 14, Fencible Lounge, 25 Uxbridge Road, Howick

Here’s an opportunity to step back in time and craft like the Victorians did. Meet costumed villagers undertaking pastimes such as needlework and knitting. Churn cream into butter or learn to stitch, knit and make lavender sachet or peg doll. Get up close with a vintage hand-crank sewing machine. Heritage sewing expert Gracie Matthews will be on site with her restored Singer machines as well as Tintype Central pop-up portrait studio. Meet photographer Adrian Cook who produces captivating images using authentic 19th century wet plate techniques. For more information: www.historical.org.nz

The Antique and Collectibles Fair is back. If you are looking for precious China, crystal glasses, decanters, New Zealand pottery, jewellery, vintage tools, furniture, oil paintings, vintage clothing, clocks, books and collectibles, this Antique and Collectibles Fair is a treasure-trove of goodies. Gold coin donation. All proceeds will go to Dementia Auckland. For enquiries contact Diane at 021 609 399.
