A Place to Stand
Till July 24, Te Taunga Community Hub, Auckland Museum
Light Scuplture: Kohatu & The Sphere
Till July 24, Heard Park, Parnell
Auckland Museum celebrates the diverse communities by inviting them into a dedicated space to create their own exhibit. Visitors can experience a community’s story not through the museum’s interpretation, but through the eyes of the community itself. On now is A Place to Stand— Contemporary Indian Art in Aotearoa, curated by distinguished artists of Indian heritage in New Zealand, this collaborative show explores the question: What is contemporary New Zealand Indian art? It also features interactive elements, video interviews with the artists, and documentary fi lm. Free with Museum entry. Each July, Parnell hosts a mid-winter light sculpture at Heard Park with the goal of warming hearts, connecting friends and families to feel awe-inspired. This year’s light sculpture is Kohatu & The Sphere created by Fish Aberadi. Fish is a Hawke’s Bay artist working to enhance physical spaces and shift perspectives through the lens of his wood-based structures. The sphere in motion speaks directly to the underlying nature and order of the universe. Spheres in motion bend time, space and give us gravity. This piece seeks to replicate nature’s miraculous harmony that gave rise to consciousness.
