PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATION

It was an event fit for the queen!

Orchestrating the platinum jubilee celebration of Queen Elizabeth II was councillor Sharon Stewart QSM as she hosted a delightful royal high tea at Fisher House to honour the Queen’s men and women.

The event held to celebrate the Queen’s service to New Zealand and the people of east Auckland who have dedicated their lives in service to the country, was meticulously planned.

Guests included John RoyWojciechowski MNZM, Bruce Kendall MBE, Sergeant Gurpreet Arora MNZM, Graeme Leggat QSM, Rosa Chow QSM, Keith Ingram MNZM, Davinder Rahal QSM, Bernadette Pereira MNZM, Kit Wong MNZM, Harjit Singh QSM – mainly those who have got the recognition of the Queen’s Honour over the years.

Standing tall was leading cancer drug researcher Sir William (Bill) Denny KNZM, who was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his services to medical research in 2021. Sir Denny has spent his career which spans more than four decades improving the effectiveness of cancer treatment drugs.

Acknowledging the contribution made by people who have been awarded the Queen’s Birthday Honour /New Year’s honour was Member of Parliament, Simeon Brown who made a rather engaging MC for the special event.

Also spotted, former minister and diplomat Maurice Williamsom who is all set to contest the council elections this year.

Val Lott accompanied by husband Allan added sparkle to the event in a shimmering gown.

Also at the gathering was talented performer Niklas Hansen who sang a beautiful rendition of the Queen’s favourite song Flower of Scotland and God Save the Queen.

A passage from the bible was read by Brown and a royal toast was raised by Ingram who served in the Royal Navy.

The crowning glory was the cake, in shape of the Crown, cut by all the companions of order. All in all, a fitting platinum jubilee celebration organised by councillor Stewart. 2

Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II

Sir William (Bill) Denny and Lady Denny, Simeon Brown MP for Pakuranga, David Stewart, Sharon Stewart QSM, Harjit Singh QSM and Yuva Adhikary. On June 6, 2022 at Fisher House, Highbrook, Councillor Sharon Stewart QSM orgainsed a Royal High Tea. Her Majesty the Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. She was born on April 21, 1926 and is 96 years old.

Sharon Stewart QSM and Councillor for Howick Ward which covers Howick, Pakuranga, Botany and Flatbush – she was awarded Queen Service Medal in 1998 for Services to Howick and Public Service.
