The client’s design brief was to build a stable, efficient, high-speed planing monohull, set up for offshore game fish ing as well as long-distance passage-making.Toachievethis, the boat was built using carbon-fibre. Building in carbon has meant weight was kept to a minimum, which in turn allowed for the use of efficient Volvo Penta Engines with IPS [Integrated Propulsion System] drives. The power output from these engines is substantially below that of what would be found on similar sized 18m sport fisher boats, yet still produces a top speed over 30 knots (55 km/h) and a cruise of around 26 knots (48 km/h) while maintaining “very good fuel efficiency”.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II expressed genuine a ection for this country.

Although she was 96 and her health was declining, New Zealanders’ admiration and adoration of Her Majesty remained steadfast. The Queen’s reign began before most of us were born and her presence was a constant comfort to millions. It felt as though she’d always be with us. Instead, we reflect now on her life of service to Britain and to the Commonwealth.

From the time of her coronation 70 years ago with her pledge to devote her life to public service, she could not have given more of herself to the role.

I still have faint memories of Her Majesty’s visit to Christchurch in 1974 for the Commonwealth Games when I was just four years old. I remember standing on Memorial Avenue with my mother and brother, waving our flags in the crowd as the Queen drove past in her Rolls Royce. Those memories stay with you for a lifetime and that says a lot about how significant a visit from the Queen can be.

Over the past few days, we have seen various ceremonial events, both in the UK and in New Zealand, marking the Queen’s death and King Charles’ accession. I have and will continue to represent the Opposition in New Zealand wherever I am required, but as a citizen of this country, I give thanks for the life of a remarkable and selfless woman and monarch who dedicated her life’s work to public service and who never wavered from that lifelong commitment she made more than 70 years ago.

Nathan Hey wants the latest play he’s direct ing at Howick Little Theatre to be unique and make audiences think and there’s little doubt he’s delivered. The theatre is staging a tense and moody production of award-winning Kiwi playwright Gary Henderson’s dramatic play Shepherd until October 1.

The theatre’s production of Shepherd makes excellent use of multi-media technology and will have audience members debating the mes sage Gary Henderson was trying to impart for days to come.

Why would AT designers pro duce something not acceptable to so many people?

Think again. Derek Paterson in his letter (Times, September 7) is right butBasedwrong.on the installation of a similar raised pedestrian crossing at the junction of Bucklands Beach and Macleans roads late last year, instead of the week-long construc tion period Derek suggests, in real ity the crossing will take weeks to complete. The totally unnecessary Bucklands Beach crossing took three weeks before Christmas and two further weeks in the New Year to complete (against the initial one weekDespitesuggested).thealmost full-time attendance by a humongous num ber of traffic control trucks and their operatives, locals, residents and visitors enjoyed traffic jams back to Musick Point in one direc tion and Highland Park in the other. Now the crossing is com plete we have a wonderful speed ramp with a resultant number of car accidents.

Regardless of how clever Gaiever is or isn’t, he admitted he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

And regardless of how good cli mate models are at “predicting” the future, we know for sure add ing CO2 and other greenhouse gases to the atmosphere will cause Earth to retain more energy from theAsSun.ithappens, the models have been accurate in “hindcasting”, i.e. using data from the past to make projections for the present.

The senseless and wanton vandal ism of all political candidate’s sig nage is a perennial problem.

There’s no profit to be had, insisting that our pride remain intact, whilst our home tumbles down on top of us; our anthem having become, ‘God Offends New Zealand.’

Due to the raised design, vehi cles are required to apply brakes even during green traffic lights.

The Government hasn’t reversed removal of interest as a tax deduc tion for the vast majority of rental providers in New Zealand. This is bad news for the majority of tenants.Large KiwiSaver providers argued that the proposed tax increase would be passed onto sav ers. Regarding the tax increases on rental property, the NZ Property Investors Federation (NZPIF) also pointed out that these would be passed on to tenants. Various gov ernment departments pointed this out as well.

I have lived with it for more than 30 years. AT said they are working on the Vision Zero campaign. If Vision Zero is the basis for a raised design, AT should be able to dem onstrate this vision across the city.

Over time, the hallmark of God’s authorship has become obscured, we preferring instead to succumb to the innumerable enticements of the zeitgeist which offers full accommodation of our proclivities.

The final outcome may be that a crossing may not be required at this place as there are crossings on each side of Pakuranga Road 300m from this point.

Climate science is likely the most scrutinised science in history because it has been fight ing a powerful enemy – the oil billionaires and the politicians in theirRyanpockets.Price has fallen into a trap known as the “Appeal to Authority”. Rather than follow recognised experts, whose work is endorsed by every recognised scientific institution on the planet, including the Royal Society of London and the National Academy of Sciences of the USA, he has “trotted out” Ivar Gaiever, who won a Nobel for work on quantum tun nelling. This has no direct connec tion with atmospheric physics.

I am just wondering if anyone else has been to the Ministry of Social Development lately and felt bullied.Unfortunately, I have just had a very bad experience with the per son who says she is the manager of the Highland Park branch. There are several other cross ings on Pakuranga Road and across the city that are without the humps and seem to be working okay. What is special about this crossing that it has to be raised?

REVERSAL OF RENTAL TAX WOULD BE GREAT AS WELL

Maurice Williamson’s face has been cut out of several of his election signs.

The meeting was attended by Auckland Transport (AT) officials, Howick ward councillors and about 150 enthusiastic people affected by the proposal.

WHAT’S HAPPENED TO OUR FAITH?

So, I can only but conclude its some nasty little thug who have nothing better to do in their life.

Does that mean we will end up with a crossing every 500m?

New Zealand was once habitually described as ‘God’s own,’ its inhab itants recognising, in it displayed, the untouched epitome of the Heavenly Majesty’s creative ter restrial prowess.

According to science historian Frederic B Burnham “The commu nity of scientists was prepared to consider the idea that God created the universe, a more respectful hypothesis today than at any time in the last hundred years”.

He began a lecture to Nobel laureates saying he had Googled global warming that morning and decided it was nonsense.

Another similarity is that the Government bowed to large corpo rations who didn’t want to pay the extra tax.

If AT’s norm is Vision Zero, nobody on our roads across the city should be injured or killed.

sentimentalities nurtured by our humanistic pretensions: public discussion of Biblical assertions touching these themes viewed an outrage tantamount to inflict ing grievous bodily harm. Thus, the astonishing, untenable causes célèbres, mandated our cultural raison d’etre, are imbued with such militant offence that we scarce deign hope for the return of general courteousness.

Disconcerted by the slightest prickly twinge that hints at our consciousness of objective moral ity, the shameless philosophical and practised extremes of behav iour, antithetical to our Christian roots, are now lauded rather than chance offending the delicate

Both were to “even up the play ing field”, both are extremely important parts of people’s lives and advice from officials for both was not to do it.

On August 29, Simeon Brown, the MP for Pakuranga, organ ised a public meeting at Farm Cove Intermediate to discuss the proposed raised crossing on Pakuranga Road.

Let it not take the full cumu lative effects of this unchecked ideological rancour running amok to finally soften our hearts once again toward the remedy; the truth revealed in Scripture.

There are 21,000 vehicles per day at that crossing.

The world authority (IPCC) on the other hand studies hundreds of thousands of papers written in peer-reviewed scientific journals before making pronouncements.

Furthermore, if people are stupid enough to cross Pakuranga Road in an unsafe manner, perhaps we are better off without them.

His broad experience in business in New Zealand and overseas and managing low and large budgeted Olympic campaigns has demonstrated Kendall is getting good results and value for money.

The first of Xiao’s main policies is to accelerate the e-government process to introduce robots, drones, and artificial intelligence in areas such as traffic control, health care, libraries, conservation, fisheries, and more, to help workers and improve efficiency.

The second is to assist the development of technologies represented by electric tractors, agricultural vehicles and livestock drones in agriculture to “mediate conflicts between farmers and the national emissions reduction plan and alleviate farm labour shortages”.“Ithinkthe Government should recommend electric agricultural vehicles to farmers, include them in the subsidies, and also build supporting facilities for electric agricultural vehicles such as charging stations in farm areas,” he says.

Current Local Board members, and C&R selected candidates Katrina Bungard and David Collings sincerely apologise for any confusion this may have caused publicly, and clarify that Mike Turinsky does not have affiliation with the C&R brand. As Katrina and David state: “Naturally, as Local Board colleagues, we do enjoy a collaborative, collegial relationship with our fellow elected members, including Mike; and so photos together at events are a natural occurrence. However we do understand that this photo may have caused some confusion to voters around branding, and we apologise for this.”

He became elected onto the Howick Local Board in 2010 and has served as deputy chairperson during the current term.

“As a result of this error, the C&R Howick Ward team wish to apologise and immediately correct any confusion. The brochures have been redesigned and reprinted. Once again, we had no intention of creating any confusion to voters, or compromising Mr Turinsky’s Independent stance. We are more than happy to correct this mistake as we want to operate a clear and honest campaign.”

ohn Spiller belongs to a family with a long record of service to the people of Howick and developed an interest in local-body affairs some years ago.

If elected I will advocate strongly for affordable rates and financial accountability.

Our Flat Bush and Ormiston area has experienced rapid growth over the past 10 years, and with a population of over 67,000, many of whom are in highdensity housing, it is vital to complete the planned Ormiston Library and Community Centre.

Unfortunately, in a small amount of C&R campaign material that was recently released, a group photo of some current Local Board Members at a Local event, including Member Mike Turinsky, appeared in a brochure that also included a logo of the local body ticket – C&R (Communities and Residents). Inadvertently, an oversight was made when the brochure that included these photos was printed without the permission of Local Board Member Mike Turinsky, who is not a C&R candidate.

Hancock promises to bring business nous to board role

Mike has consistently maintained an independent position, largely due to his work with youth and schools in the community over the past 18 years. The C&R team understand that he must remain unaffiliated to any political party or ticket due to professional and personal reasons. We respect and understand his position.

“Socratic” method of teaching wherein we mostly keep asking questions until the light dawns. (We love that moment when a smile slowly spreads across their face and we know that they have got it.) When students feel that they are working something out for themselves it keeps them more involved and they remember it for longer. If we think of the mind as a muscle, it also strengthens that muscle for when it is needed in exams, effectively increasing their IQ. Hence the comment of one of my students that: “Mr Porter explains things well and makes it fun!”

Our first goal is to help the students understand what is going on in class so that they can take an interest in it and not feel embarrassed. This usually involves giving them some background in the fundamentals of the topic and setting homework so that they gain confidence and don’t forget how to do it by the next week. If they are ok with what is happening in class we can then cover any other topics which they had trouble with previously. Once all that is done we can start looking at exam papers and learning some exam
