Message from the Race Director Welcome to the 26th running of the Sunrise Stampede. It’s hard to believe that all members of the original 1986 race committee still remain part of the committee. Alison Richards became the artist for the signature Sunrise Stampede T-shirts and the registration forms in 1987, and she continues to use her special talents for the Stampede. We’ve had Olympic champions, elite runners from many nations, championship walkers, runners and plodders like me, walkers and parents pushing strollers participate. In 25 years, the Stampede has contributed $166,000 to the St. Vrain Valley School District for their substance abuse and drug awareness program.

It would not be possible to put on the Stampede without great sponsors. We are grateful for their long-standing support. Mountain Bell and the Sunrise Lions Club sponsored the inaugural Stampede in 1986. The Times-Call joined in 1987 and has continued sponsorship for 25 years. In 1996, sponsors changed and the 1st Bank joined the Times-Call and the Sunrise Lions Club as sponsors. In 1998, McDonald’s joined. Tran’s Martial Arts and Fitness Center joined in 1999, and Mike O’Shays Restaurant joined our group of sponsors in 2000. In 2004, Longmont United Hospital joined as a sponsor. Longmont Dairy joined in 2005 and Steve’s Automotive and Alignment in 2006.

Special recognition must go to the Charles family and McDonald’s for providing race day refreshments for the past 20 years, to AMR for providing medical coverage this year, and to Pridemark Paramedics for providing coverage from 1999-2007. Prior to 1999, AMR and A-1 Professional Ambulance provided the coverage. The race committee thanks all of the sponsors, the volunteers, the folks who donate raffle prizes and the runners and walkers who make the Stampede special. We hope you enjoy participating in this year’s Stampede, which continues the tradition of an enjoyable family event. Herold Schulz Race Director
