one size doesn’t fit All Today, it’s not just about getting a tablet – it’s about getting the right size of tablet. And with more options than ever, you can be sure to get the perfect device without any compromises
I
n half a decade, tablets have gone from nonexistent to ubiquitous. What once was a cutting-edge Internet device now is as universal as it gets. Kids can operate them operate them before they’re potty-trained, and then teach grandma and grandpa how to use them. In fact, you may have a hard time trying to name someone who does not own a tablet. But just because the devices have infiltrated every corner of our lives does not mean there is not room for improvement. Now, it’s not just about getting a tablet, it’s about getting the right tablet. With more tablets coming in more sizes, it’s a bit like the Goldilocks paradox: Find one that’s not too big and not too little but just right. Here’s a look at the latest options.

Apple iPad air 2 (9.7 inches)
9.7"
From $499
Apple iPad Mini 4
From $399 (7.9 inches)
The first iPad arrived in 2010 with a 9.7inch screen. It kept its screen size over the years while it slimmed and transitioned into what is now called the iPad Air. Then came the iPad mini, small enough to hold with one hand. Now, there is the iPad Pro, with a screen nearly 13 inches. The good news, though, is that what’s on the inside is pretty consistent across the three. All three models snap 8MP photos and 1080p video, and they all offer nearly 10 hours of web browsing time on Wi-Fi. The bigger you go the more processing power you’ll get, but really, it’s just about what size best fits you.

Merry Swiftmas!
What would Taylor Swift gift? Look no further than her endorsements, friends and favorite things By Matthew M. F. Miller, CTW Features
Even Santa would be hard-pressed to deny that this is Taylor Swift’s world, and we’re all just living in it. Easily one of the most powerful persons in the entertainment industry, the style icon also is an unabashed promoter of everything she loves. For the legions of fans that hang on her every Instagram, the holidays are the perfect opportunity to give the gift of their favorite mega-star’s favorite things. And even if everyone on your list isn’t a fan of Taylor Swift, her savvy style ensures these gifts will be ideal for anyone – even the haters. Especially the haters! So, yes, it’s beginning to look a lot like Swiftmas. Don’t be surprised if you hear the faint beats of “Blank Space” instead of jingle bells up on the rooftop come Christmas Eve. Don’t say I didn’t, say I didn’t warn ya.
Swift Branded
When you’re on top, endorsements are plentiful. Here are a few of latest and greatest byproducts of her fame. Taylor Swift Incredible Things perfume ($49.50) Drawing its name from a lyric in her No. 1 single, “Blank Space,” Incredible Things is described as having a fresh, feminine and modern aroma for the “timeless romantic” on your list.
Taylor Swift’s Champion Sneaky Cat Keds ($55) Shoes are big in Swift’s world. These kicks, available in cream or black, are inspired by her multiplatinum album “1989” and feature perhaps the greatest love in her life – an adorable cat. 1201 S. Taylor Swift Baby Taylor (TSBT) by Taylor Guitars ($418) One of the leading guitar manufacturers in the United States has created a slim, compact instrument, inspired by Swift’s first guitar, that’s perfect for the young up-and-coming songwriter. It features Swift’s signature above the bridge with the word “love” repeated three times throughout a crawling vine motif.
Famous Friends
Taylor Swift’s list of celebrity pals has very few blank spaces, and what better way to celebrate the joy of the holidays than sharing some of her famous friends’ own creations? Ed Sheeran – X Sheeran and Swift are incredibly close friends. Her smash album “Red” even features a duet between the besties. His latest album is a smash in its own right, and continues to prove a powerhouse on pop radio. Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly The remix of Swift’s hit “Bad Blood” featuring Kendrick Lamar showed just how much respect Swift has for arguably the best hip hop artist today. She even thanked him first at the recent MTV Video Music Awards when she won for Video of the Year. His most recent album just happens to be one of 2015’s best.
T-Swift’s Favorite Things
Swift is fairly forthcoming with her top choices for entertainment, style and all things cool. Friends: The Complete Series A mega-fan, Swift recently brought “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow on stage at a Los Angeles concert to sing Phoebe’s infamous “Smelly Cat” song from the show. And, seeing as “Friends” has re-entered the cultural consciousness following the 20th anniversary celebration and its recent addition to Netflix streaming, the complete collection makes a perfect gift for any Swiftie.

The Harper Lee Collection: To Kill a Mockingbird & Go Set a Watchman ($55) The American classic is Swift’s favorite book. And the reader on your list also might be curious to read the controversially released “new” Harper Lee novel “Go Set a Watchman.” This dual slip-cased edition is a lovely addition to any reader’s library.

signs, or a coin-op pinball game might fit the bill. Front Range Mercantile in Longmont is one example. With multiple vendors under one roof, buyers get many different tastes and areas of emphasis. Vendors at each booth do the work of selecting things that they feel are worth a buyer’s attention. It’s different from a thrift store in that collections are more carefully selected, meaning that the buyer is getting items that have already gone through the filter of the vendor. Since inventory is rarely the same twice, it’s hard to go in with rigid expectations. Keep an attitude of adventure about it and it will be a fun experience.
Indigo Sky in Berthoud By Misty Kaiser, Times-Call We all have at least one person who is impossible to buy for. They either buy what they want, when they want it, or they have obscure tastes and likes that are difficult to pin down. As the gift giving season nears, we search and search and finally panic ourselves into buying another sweater or give up and get a gift card. Both of those things are perfectly fine options, but for those who want to dig a little deeper, there are a couple of often overlooked resources; flea markets and antique stores. They’re usually a little off the beaten path and you have to have a little time to look around, but the one of a kind finds can be worth it. Think ebay without all the annoying bidding. Here are some tips for getting the most out of a flea market trip:
Think outside of the big box.
Sure, the convenience of hitting a big box store with rows and rows of shrink wrap and clam shell packaging is alluring. But sometimes the act of searching for the perfect thing is part of the gift itself. The care shows when they

open a carefully selected one-of-akind gift, usually followed by cries of “Where did you find it?” Places like Indigo Sky in Berthoud carry both artisan-crafted gifts like handmade soaps, crocheted hats and scarves, handcrafted jewelry, and stained glass among other unique items integrated with carefully chosen antiques and vintage pieces in the same space, so buyers have even more options to find something unique.
Be Flexible.
Contrary to every shopping instinct you may have, it’s better to go into a flea market or antique shop without a specific objective in mind. If you just feel naked without one, make a loose list of people you need to shop for and their interests. Finding something really cool that applies to a general interest is easier than finding an exact item. Does mom like to cook? Antique cookie boards might fit in her kitchen nicely. Does dad like music? You might find vintage, hard to find, albums from his youth. New rec room? Neon

Take your time
Schedule a full day, just so that you have time to fully scour all of your local options. Take along some friends or family (just not the ones you’re shopping for) and make a day of it. Who knows what treasures you’ll find. And if you don’t find anything one day one, you can always go back another day. That’s the great thing about flea markets and antique shops—turnover. However, if you think you’ve found the perfect thing, don’t put it off, it may not be there tomorrow.
