Longmont Community Foundation

636 Coffman, Suite 203 , Longmont , 303.678.6555, longmontfoundation.org

Live and Give Longmont is a permanent fund that not only generates much-needed revenue for existing nonprofits, but also grows over time to ensure funding well into the future. Since its founding in 2002, the Fund has been able to leverage individual gifts into a larger pool to make the most meaningful impact. The Longmont Community Foundation is relaunching the Fund as Live and Give Longmont to emphasize the critical importance of charitable giving in supporting their neighbors and local community. The St. Vrain Valley is rapidly growing, and Longmont is poised to become the largest city in Boulder County. As a result of this tremendous growth, our community needs to be ready to assist those nonprofits that support residents with their health, basic needs, and educa-

tion needs, as well as those that work to improve the aesthetics of the community and overall quality of life through investment in the arts and the environment. Each year, Longmont Community Foundation receives $400,000 of requests for grants from nonprofit organizations, and are only able to fund a fraction of the needs. Live and Give Longmont will grow for future generations while providing immediate benefit to the community today. The annual granting allocation of 5 percent is less than long-term investment returns, and therefore the fund will grow while it gives back. Every year, almost 100 nonprofits apply for funding from Live and Give Longmont. A dedicated grants committee made up of 15 volunteers, representing diverse backgrounds and interests,

spends three months visiting each nonprofit and thoroughly reviewing each application. Each application is reviewed independently by two different committee members. Based on the assessment, the committee determines which nonprofits will be awarded funding, and the dollar amount that they will receive. Live and Give Longmont benefits four main areas of interest: Arts and Culture, Education, Animals and Environment, and Human Services. Past recipients have included a diverse group of organizations including nonprofits such as the OUR Center, TLC Learning Center, Longmont Museum, and Longmont Meals on Wheels. For more information about the Longmont Community Foundation or their Live and Give Fund, please email eric@longmontfoundation.org or call the office at 303-678-6555.

Budget Home Supply 780 Boston Ave., Longmont (303) 678-8800 Budget Home Supply has been a trusted name for home and building supplies and a valued Longmont business for over 30 years. Business began as Budget Home Center back in 1984, but just last year, on their 30th anniversary, they went through a rebranding and remodel to make the store more convenient for large professional jobs. What does that mean for the average weekend warrior? An assurance that they are fully stocked with materials for any job they need to accomplish. “The flood really hit us hard but it also jump started the remodel and redesign of the store. We had water in the store and even more in the lumberyard. We needed new floors, roof, parking lot, displays, signage and outdoor lumber yard. Since that remodel and new branding, business is better than ever,” says Vernetta Angelo, marketing manager. Though the name may be different the dedication to providing only the best for their customers and their community is still the same.

Caring about their customers doesn’t stop at closing time. “We have worked with hundreds of boy scouts and eagle scouts, helping them with their projects over the years. That includes donating the materials needed... and answering questions on how to construct their project. Our wall in our break room is absolutely covered with thank you cards and pictures of their final products,” Angelo says. They also work with Habitat for Humanity allowing them a place to purchase supplies at cost. The OUR Center sees a portion of proceeds on special event days, they support local

high school sports programs by taking part in their advertising efforts and the list goes on. DIY is a big buzzword these days and most of us have just enough knowledge to make a mess. When that happens, count on Budget Home Supply to help you get the job done right. Know you’re getting the same quality supplies that the pros use, from roof to floors, and all the lumber, drywall, plumbing and electrical that goes in between, they’ll have you covered. Coming soon will be a new department just for appliances! As the largest composite

decking dealer in northern Colorado, they can take your outdoor space from blah to fabulous, even going to the extent of helping you design exactly what you want. From their first tiny shop on Main St., to their third, and current location, they have remained family owned and operated and most importantly—local. Whether they’re remodeling, decorating, landscaping or building a project from scratch, customers can be certain they are always getting the highest quality at Budget Home Supply.

Miracle Method 1822 Sun nset Pl., Stee A Longmon nt 303.776.3449 miraclemethod.com/ /boullder It’s probably safe to say that no one looks forward to remodeling a kitchen or bathroom. It’s messy, it’s time consuming and it’s expensive. So, what’s the alternative when things start to look a little dated or dirty? Miracle Method. “Miracle Method has been servicing the Longmont community for the last 15 years. We provide surface refinishing of bathtubs, tile, showers and counter-tops as well as fiberglass repairs,” says Lynne Weber, co-owner. “We have an exclusive process with a proven method that has been used since 1979. Our product provides customers with a durable

and reasonable solution for many surfaces, instead of just replacing.” Lynne’s husband, Brian, started the business out of his garage and it has since grown into a large building and showroom. They are still family owned and operated and locally based today. Time is money and Miracle Method saves customers both. By transforming existing surfaces, they save the money it takes to completely remove and

replace them. It also takes a lot less time. Where replacement can take weeks, their process takes approximately two days. That’s less time you’re out of a bathroom. Coming soon; concrete floor refinishing. “We are very excited about this expansion and can’t wait to start offering it to our customers in the future,” Weber says. Before you replace, refinish with Miracle Method.

Stonum Automotive 1812 Sunset Pl. , Longmont 303.485.9303 stonumautomotive.com

It’s obvious when you talk to John Stonum that he loves cars. More importantly, as the owner of Stonum Automotive, he understands that you love your car. That’s why he works so hard to help you keep your car in its peak running condition. In order to do that more efficiently and comfortably for all involved, expansion was required. No one has ever said that construction is easy, but for Stonum Automotive, it was definitely worth it. “We started with 2000 [square feet] and then 7000 in the same building. Now, we’re at 14,000,” says Stonum. Doubling the square footage of the building has allowed for a substantial increase in turnaround rate which means that you get your car back faster. Every mechanic now has two lifts to work with so that there’s no wasted time waiting while one car comes down so that another can go up. They now handle alignments for many of the body shops in town, without anyone having to make them wait. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” Stonum says. Employees and customers alike are pleased with all the extra space and ease of access. By choosing to build a new location rather than purchasing an existing building, Stonum was able to exercise greater

control over the outcome — a shop tailor made for their needs and the convenience of the customer. “I got to talk to guys who had already done it about what they wish they had done differently. I put a ton of thought into the design of the building. It’s super efficient,” he explains. That efficiency shows up everywhere, from the latest equipment and technology to energy usage. LED lighting and better insulation has confined the energy used to roughly the same as it was before, but in a building twice the size. And just because they work fossil fuels, doesn’t mean they don’t care about the planet. They also recycle all of their fluids, so nothing gets thrown away to contaminate the environment. They still serve their customers with the same dedication to quality that they always have. Stonum hires only the best technicians and there’s not a make or

model that they can’t handle-— even diesels and European models. With all that expertise under one roof, mistakes don’t happen often, but if they do, he and his employees do everything in their power to make it right. “When everything goes perfect—great, but when something goes wrong, that’s when you find out whether you have a good shop,” says Stonum. “Our first concern is that you have a fixed, safe car.” To that end, he welcomes every review. It’s rare to find a business owner that not only reads them, but acknowledges and interacts with those who leave them, making sure to address any issues that may arise. Finding a mechanic you can trust can be a scary prospect, but it you want to know what Stonum is all about, it’s all there in their slogan... “Honest car care and repair.”

AlternAtives For Youth - ithrive 24 9th Ave, Longmont, 303.776.8184 thrivingteens.org Alternatives for Youth (AFY) is a non-profit organization serving at-risk youth and their families in Longmont, Boulder and Adams County for over 32 years with a variety of programs that promote the success of youth by instilling values that lead to positive choices and positive community impact and by encouraging social, cultural, and self-development. Most recently, after carefully assessing the most current and pressing needs of the community, AFY launched iTHRIVE; an early intervention substance abuse program for teens ages 12 to 17 that have just started a dangerous journey into substance abuse. Substance abuse is a major concern facing our youth and one of the top issues interfering with our students’ academic success. Teens turn to substance abuse for many reasons and to further understanding as to why, iTHRIVE uses psycho-educational therapy in a group setting for both the

teens as well as their parents. The iThrive program is run by highly qualified staff dedicated to helping teens see and understand the impact that drug and alcohol use and abuse has on their lives and help them make more beneficial life choices for their future success. The groups offer a place for teens and parents to talk and process what they are going through, receive support and learn the tools and skills necessary for recovery and repairing relationships. The goal is to help teens quit using substances and catch them before they get too involved in the judicial system or their

behavior affects their school career. Parents learn constructive ways of communicating with their teen to open channels of trust and support. The iTHRIVE groups are six weeks long and meet once a week in the evening for two hours. Both the parents and the teens attend all six weeks. For added convenience, classes are offered in Longmont, Boulder and in Adams County so that teens in substance abuse situations from the entire northern metro area have access to the help they need. Fees for the six-week program are affordable and

available on a sliding fee scale which is based on a family’s income. There are many ways that teens and their parents enroll in the iTHRIVE program. Families are referred by school districts, probation or diversion, and many parents find them online. If you are worried about your teen or know a teen or family who is struggling, please contact AFY and iThrive— they are there to help! For more information and to enroll visit www. thrivingteens.org or call 303.776.8184.

Times-Call 350 Terry St. Longmont 303.776.2244 timescall.com

144 Years of Covering Our Community The Times-Call has been an integral part of Longmont’s history from the beginning. At the top of its family tree sits the Free Press, a newspaper established by brothers Elmer and Fred Beckwith of Burlington, Colorado that got its start the same year the City of Longmont was founded: 1871. Elmer and Fred moved to Longmont the following year, and Elmer started publishing the successor of the Free Press, the Longmont Sentinel. The paper changed its name twice in the next few years, becoming the Colorado Press and finally the Longmont Press. In 1879, competing newspaper Longmont Ledger led its first issue with coverage of a fire at the Longmont Press building. In typical Longmont community-centric style, the Ledger printed the Press for several weeks. Elmer and his staff rebuilt the Longmont Press and renamed it the Longmont Weekly Times, which became the Daily Times by 1893. In 1898 another newspaper came to town: the Longmont Call. The city and the publishing industry were booming. Longmont supported three newspapers for more than three decades, but that level of coverage proved unsustainable. The Times and Call merged in 1931, creating the Longmont Times-Call moniker we know today. The Longmont Ledger closed in 1940, leaving only the Times-Call. The

Times-Call benefited from strong leadership throughout. After 48 years in the business, founder Elmer Beckwith gave the reins to Ray Lanyon in 1919. Lanyon enjoyed a similarly long tenure, remaining publisher until 1957, and also served as Longmont’s mayor for part of his term (1931 to 1942). Local attorneys Ed and Ruth Lehman took over the Times-Call in 1957. They grew the company into Lehman Communications, which included the Loveland Reporter-Herald, Cañon City Daily Recorder, and Colorado Hometown Weekly, in addition to the Times-Call. Under the Lehman’s leadership, the Times-Call

added a Sunday edition and became a morning paper. Though the Lehman family no longer owns the Times-Call – Prairie Mountain Publishing purchased Lehman Communications in 2011 – the Times-Call remains a big part of the community. Today, the Times-Call is a multi-media news source, delivering in-depth coverage of Longmont 24/7 in print and online, via mobile devices, social media, and beyond. Reaching the community through all various types of media allows them to remain Longmont’s number one source for local news and advertising information, and it is well positioned for the next 144 years.

Family Carpet One FlOOr & HOme 1401 Ken Pratt Blvd., Suite B Longmont 303.651.2011 familycarpetonelongmont.com

It seems to be a little rare that you meet a true Colorado native, but the Martinez family is one of the lucky few. Their family tree can be traced back to the first settlers in the San Luis Valley in the 1700s. Even after a 30 year stay in California, they couldn’t shake their roots, returning to Colorado 1994 and choosing Longmont as the perfect spot to grow their family and business. They invested themselves in the community and their family grew that investment. Their three sons have gone through the stages of doing chores around the store as kids, to learning installation and leading their own crews as they got older, moving on to selling the product and now they are equal owners with their parents. That means they know every single aspect of the

business from the bottom up. So customers can be comfortable in knowing that they understand every detail of what they do and that Family Carpet One Floor & Home is truly a family business. They don’t keep that sense of family to themselves, though. They treat every customer that steps through their door as one of their own. And just as they would for any family member, they provide only the best in products and services. Flooring consultants will help you get started on choosing the right type of flooring for your home, family lifestyle and budget. They carry exclusive brands like Lees, Invincible and Innovia that you can trust to be durable and fashionable.

From high quality vinyl tile and laminate, stain-resistant carpets and trendy tiles, to the latest styles in hardwood flooring, the largest inventory in town is their claim to fame. They’re so sure you’ll love it that they offer The Beautiful Guarantee. If you aren’t happy with your qualifying floor for any reason, they’ll replace it at no cost to you. When it comes time to install the flooring they don’t abandon you to a subcontractor they may or may not know. Their installation experts stand behind everything they do with a “Life of Floor” warranty. They

know your home is your palace and flooring is an investment that you consider carefully and you can rely on them to take care of it. A large national presence may lend them buying power and brand name associations but their local ownership lets them get to know their customers and community personally. The Martinez family invests in their town both as a business and in personal endeavors. They believe that enriching the lives around them is a privilege and an honor. “When we say ‘Our family, serving yours,’ we truly mean it,” Martinez says.

After years of experience in the tech industry, Owner, Wade Kisch, made a life changing switch. He opened the Massage Heights Longmont location on July 22, at the corner of 17th and Hover, (former Blockbuster location) after a lot of searching throughout northern Colorado. “Boulder County is the heart of Massage Therapy in Colorado, if not the United States,” Kisch says. “We chose this location to provide a service specifically to Longmont and benefited greatly by finding some of the best massage and skin therapists in Colorado.” They make massage and skin care more affordable by offering Lifestyle Programs that save customers money with each returning visit. Licensed massage and skin therapists care for everyone, from the person just needing to de-stress to the person with serious medical issues, with the same amount of concern. Why massage? The benefits of massage made such an immense impact in Kisch’s life that he wanted to share it with as many people as possible. As one of the many who suffer from almost daily pain,

he knew the drudgery, and possible side effects of constant medication that never seemed to entirely rid him of it. “I was a real mess when I first started going in to receive massage, I had severe sleep apnea and Fibromyalgia. I also had several bulged disks in my neck and lower back causing me pain all the time. I couldn’t sleep and could hardly function during the day. I was on prescription pain killers and ate ibuprofen like it was going out of style. My neurologist finally recommended massage therapy and gave me a prescription for it,” Kisch explains. “It truly changed my life!” The decision to open Massage Heights was not reached flippantly. Kisch examined many other options to share his belief in healing massage with others, but after a lot of research he came across Massage Heights in Loveland. He and his girlfriend booked an appointment. “After our massages, we walked out and both said we would immediately switch over, if I wasn’t already planning to open one of my own.”

Kisch was beyond impressed with the quality of everything from the tables and linens, the free aromatherapy, the choices in length of service (30/60/90/120min massages) or (60/90 min customized facials), the variety of massage add-on services such as Hot Stone Therapy, Revitalizing Face Massage, Reviving Foot Scrubs, and the Skin Enriching, Skin Refining, Skin Purifying, or BioActive Peel facial elevations. “It had all the right touches to elevate it over the competition,” he says. He couldn’t wait to share that with his community. Today, Massage Heights looks forward to supporting and educating the community through added services such as informational evenings and other events. Kisch invites you to join and see what they’re all about, “A person just needs to come on in for a tour, sign up for any of our events or email lists, and/or keep up with us on Facebook. The whole month of October we’ll be offering free face mapping with our skin therapists.”

Balance your well-being with a therapeutic massage, lifestyle membership or custom dermalogica® facial. Benefits include reduced stress, relaxation, pain management and healthy glowing skin.

A trip to Twin Peaks is a global experience. From beer, wine and spirits produced right here in Colorado to special flavors from around the world, Twin Peaks Liquor offers an expansive selection for every discriminating taste. The selection of wines at Twin Peaks Liquor numbers in the thousands. Bottles neatly line organized shelves allowing customers to locate varietals from different regions across the United States — including a unique selection of Colorado wines — to countries worldwide. The same goes for beer and spirits— you’ll find organic, seasonal and even gluten-free selections. Find a favorite or go out on a limb and try something new. Customers can even explore the 2,400 bottle walk-in wine and beer cellar that is the only one of its kind in the area. “Located adjacent to our tasting bar, the cellar is a unique space that houses affordable luxury wine and limited release beers,” says Suzy Bergman, the store’s event planner. Speaking of the tasting bar, it’s worth a special trip. “We offer free tastings on Friday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. at our tasting bar, “The Perfect Pour.” Each week

a beer, two to three wines and a cocktail are tasted. Providing the consumer with a plethora of choices, pairing advice and mixology instruction,” Bergman says. The store also likes to reward their local customers by offering a VIP rewards program that treats customers for every dollar they spend with a rebate on a future purchase once a level has been achieved. Weekly deals offer special pricing on a variety of items, and internet savvy people can follow Twin Peaks Liquor on Facebook and Twitter for additional news and deals. Coming soon will be a more user-friendly website, many more promotions and fun events. If a party is in the works, the staff at Twin Peaks Liquor offers great party planning services with specific help in selecting and determining the perfect amount of beverages for the occasion.

As a locally owned part of the community, there’s no question that the folks at Twin Peaks really know their customers. They were a part of Longmont even before 1994 when Todd Buchholtz first opened the store. Born and raised in Loveland, Buchholtz has years of experience in the liquor business. Alongside him, RT Magley, a Longmont native, is the general manager who enjoys getting to know the many customers who enter the doors. Bergman contributes the success of Twin Peaks to their involvement in local charities and business functions as well as their two decades of unwavering commitment to providing unmatched customer service, selection, and price. “We would like to thank Longmont for 21 great years. We are proud to call Longmont home, and truly do appreciate the community support.”

Mike O’shay’s RestauRant & ale hOuse 512 Main St., Longmont 303.772.0252 mikeoshays.com

For 35 years, Mike O’Shay’s Restaurant & Ale House has been a Longmont landmark, a place of life’s happenings. O’Shay’s is where family generations gather to celebrate, to reflect, to remember and to forge new memories. O’Shay’s is where business leaders plan their next moves in an ambience of cordiality and goodwill; where elected officials stay in touch with their constituents; where there are no strangers, just new and old friends enjoying good food and good company. In Longmont, O’Shay’s is uniquely different. No other restaurant has had such a long run or has played and is playing such a significant role in the character and social fabric of its community. When Mike Shea opened the restaurant in 1981, he had no idea that his venture would touch so many people and impact so many lives in so many ways. “I’ve always worked in restaurants from middle school through today,” he said. “Since I’m from the East Coast, I had a casual, pub atmosphere in mind when we opened 35 years ago. I didn’t realize that O’Shay’s would be so much more than that, that O’Shay’s would become so central to everything going on in Longmont.” He continued, “ I never really thought

about celebrating our 35th anniversary when we first started out. Now I’m amazed by our success. I think the key is to never stagnate, never rest on your laurels, never keep things exactly the same. I’m always finding new inspiration, always trying to improve.” Shea’s wife, Nania Perret-Shea, has played a pivotal role in transforming O’Shay’s from a concept to a community cornerstone. “From the very beginning, she has been an integral part in all of the operations and planning,” Shea stated. “That hasn’t changed for 35 years. She also bakes almost all of the fabulous desserts for our customers.” In 2000, Shea made a watershed change. “It was getting more difficult to deal with the smoking issue,” he said. “We were really on the fence between people who wanted to smoke and those who wanted O’Shay’s to be smoke-free. We had a smoking area, but that just wasn’t working

14 • OCTOBER 25, 2015•SPOTLIGHT ON BUSINESS

well. I agonized over options, then opted to go smoke-free. It was the right decision. Many people still talk about what a positive change that was.” Another major change was made in 2010 when O’Shay’s underwent an extensive remodel. “It was staged gradually over two years,” Shea said. “By taking time and doing things right, we were able to utilize space more efficiently while adding 20 seats inside and 18 more outside. But the one thing that will never change is our emphasis on quality food and first-class service.” Many of O’Shay’s 40 employees have decades of experience in their fields. “One – Todd Johnson – has been with us for 30 years,” Shea pointed out proudly. “Collectively, our staff are the keys to our success.” While celebrating O’Shay’s 35th anniversary, Shea continues to look ahead. At O’Shay’s, the past is only the prologue to what is yet to come.

Happy Hounds is a Longmont success story. Being voted Longmont’s Best Pet Daycare/ Boarding four years running cements it. Why, you ask? Easy. Owners, Olivia and Brian Neill, know their clients and they know their clients’ dogs. Pet parents know that they’re leaving their dogs with people who are engaged and understand their animals individual needs — friends. That simple philosophy was in place when they opened their pens and play yards seven years ago and it will continue to guide them into the years to come. Play is more than just a freefor-all in a fence. Staff is encouraged to actively work with

the dogs, providing consistent leadership and helping to curb unwanted behaviors. Dogs that may not be into the group dynamic still get plenty of attention from staff that will always go the extra mile, sometimes literally. “The key to keeping all the dogs in our pack safe each day, is working with them,” Brian says. “Between the play and interactions with our staff, we send home tired and content dogs.” Overnight stays are also an option for owners who want their dogs to be safe and entertained while they are away. At Happy Hounds, there is always

a staff member present during overnights, which is attention that most kennels don’t provide. The care center also offers bath and brush services, as well as professional grooming. Happy Hounds is committed to giving your dog the absolute best, whether they come for a day of play, a sleep over, or a quick bath. “Quality is more important than quantity for us,” says Olivia. “We will always have the dogs’ best of care in mind.”

Bar L MoteL

1524 Main Stt., Longm mont,, 303.651.201 11

You’ve probably driven by it dozens of times, but you probably haven’t spared it much thought. It’s just another small vintage-style, single floor motel, from the days when it could still be called a motor lodge, but Bar L Motel on the north side of Longmont, renders an important service. One that many would not be willing to take on; providing a place of shelter to those who often can’t afford permanent accommodations and families in distress. John Martinez and his family have been owners and operators of Bar L Motel for the past 8 years and in that time they’ve made some positive changes. “Since taking over the motel we have gotten rid of the bad elements, stopped all code violations, co-operated with the po-

lice department on keeping lawless [activities] away. We work with the homeless shelters to accommodate their overflow,” says Martinez. Their primary focus is to keep the rates as low as possible to give these low income and homeless families in distress temporary housing by limiting the amount of travel and single-stay visitors. They do this with intent and concern for the underserved in the community, often invisible among us.

Mortgage Needed

Maintaining this type of business is not without its challenges and now Martinez is asking for the help of the community in return in the form of a mortgage opportunity. Their profitability and credit score have not been cited as factors for being unable to secure a traditional bank loan. “Banks have turned us away (not down) because of our customer base and will only consider refinancing our

mortgaage if we staart caterin ng to tourists and become a franchisee motel,” Martinez explains. “The changes the banks are asking for would cause us to have to increase our rates and drive away the ‘low price’ tenants and put people in distress and homeless back on the streets.” Putting people out is exactly what Martinez would like to avoid. In order to do that, he’s looking to refinance the existing mortgages on the property within the next two years, though sooner would be better than later. He isn’t looking for a cash handout or cash out loan, only to keep their presence in their current location. “We have a great piece of real estate in a great part of town and want to hold onto this investment for the long term.”

When patients walk into a dentist’s office, they should feel comfortable and assured that they are in the good hands of people who will do everything in their power to make their experience stress-free. At Bond Family & Implant Dentistry, they work hard that each experience from their youngest patient’s first exam to their oldest patient’s dental bridge, is a positive one. This year’s Times-Call Readers’ Choice Award is just further evidence of that. Exams, cleanings and hightech digital radiographs are all part of the preventive care. After all, the best kind of cavity is the one you never have. But,

with additional training in root canals, dental implants and laser gum treatment, Dr. Ryan Bond, dentist, and owner is able to perform most procedures inoffice, avoiding having to shuffle patients around to additional specialists. And who doesn’t find the sound of the drills irritating, sometimes even a little scary? Recent upgrades to treatment equipment means the quietest drills available, so patients can relax that much more. Additional upgrades this year will lead to shorter appointments and

the most up to date sterilization equipment on the market. Upgrades are just some of the many ways that Dr. Bond puts his patients needs first. “We truly get close to our patients and love to learn more about them and their families. Everybody here takes thoughtful care of their patient from the moment they walk in until they leave, “ Dr. Bond says. “We understand that excellent care is not only good work; it also includes good communication and a gentle touch.”

Frontière natural Meats 476 17th Ave. Longmont 720.204.6813 frontierelongmont.com Though you may not have heard the name Frontière Natural Meats, odds are you’ve eaten their products more than once. Fontière has been supplying quality organic and natural meats to area restaurants and select grocery stores since 2009. The 2014 opening of the retail location (on the south end of Westview Plaza, facing 17th Ave.) was a first for the company, though. So, why Longmont? Since both company founder, Robert La Point, and store manager, Richard Honey, live in Longmont, they have a knowledge of the community. It seemed a natural choice for their first brick and mortar store. “Longmont has a rich living off the land, agricultural background - so it seemed to be a prime location,” says Honey. Living and working in Longmont gives them specific insight into what the community needs and wants. The goal is to be “community-centric

in what products we bring to the store and how we respond to the shopping habits of the community,” he says. Walking in to browse, you might be surprised by their prices — in a good way. Frontière demonstrates that healthy choices don’t have to mean sky high prices. Sourcing right here in Colorado definitely helps. “We are a ranch-to-table company - raising the animals in partnerships with the ranchers, doing our own processing and bringing superb quality products direct to the consumer,” Honey explains. Frontière’s beef, bison and elk stand alongside chicken, pork, brats and hot dogs —

all-natural, organic, grass-fed and waiting to improve your favorite recipes. Pick up a variety of rubs to complement your selection and find a new recipe on one of two touchscreen tablets. And... as much as we hate to think about it, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Why not try something different this year, like a lamb roast or bison prime rib? Frontière’s organic and all-natural meats are sure to please your guests and they are currently taking orders. Pick-up will be available starting November 20. Not only are they providing restaurant quality meats, they are reaching toward becom-

ing a destination within the community with on-site classes and events. Frontiere has also partnered with local health practitioners to bring you solid, fact-based classes on how good organic and antibiotic-free meats are for your body. Other classes cover such topics as preparation tips and nutritional content. And events like the upcoming Chili Cook Off in January, promise a fun future. For more information on competing in the chili cook off or upcoming events, seminars and tastings visit frontierelongmont.com or drop by and say ‘Hi’. You’ll be glad you did.

Wyatt’s Wet goods

1250 S. Hover St., Unit C, Longtmont, 303.485.9463, wyattswetgoods The Colorado craft spirit, beer and wine market has exploded over the past few years, there’s no denying that. It should come as no surprise that liquor stores would want to make the most of that growth and Wyatt’s Wet Goods is no exception. “We looked at Longmont as a neat opportunity to open a large format, familyfriendly liquor store in order to serve a growing community,” says General Manager Joe Henry. With plans to open this fall, Wyatt’s is a new large, open and bright liquor store run by locals, for locals. The owners are all from Colorado and plan to maintain a heavy focus on local goods in addition to a great selection of wine, beer and spirits from around the world. While selection is undeniably an important factor, so are price and service. There will be options for every budget and they encourage you to bring your questions! This is part of their commitment to excellent customer service. The educated staff will help you peruse their extensive selection to find exactly what you are looking for.

Shopping for spirits shouldn’t be an off-putting experience, shuffling around in a dark, cramped space. With wide aisles and plenty of room to browse, Wyatt’s is a shopping destination rather than a typical liquor store. In a true understanding of the Colorado lifestyle, dogs are welcome in the store, so bring your four-legged friend with you on your next beer run!

Becoming one of the Longmont family

What’s the difference? You may think that a liquor store is a liquor store is a liquor store, but they plan to challenge that belief at Wyatt’s. The difference is in their approach. “We have a concept for a liquor store that is a little different and we believe is appreciated- fun and family-friendly. We like to say ‘we take the intimidation out of wine shopping’,” Henry explains.

Not only does Wyatt’s Wet Goods want to be a valued business in the community, they also want to contribute to its overall well-being. They will be working with nonprofits such as A Woman’s Work and Arts Longmont, as well as developing an arts group that will meet in their parking lot to share and exhibit their work. Before your next party, barbeque, or quiet night as home, stop by Wyatt’s for help with the beverages. The exact opening date is yet to be determined but keep your eyes and ears open- a grand opening is in the works and it promises to be fun and exciting!
