Well, I never Carol Shack 2015 Board Chair realized just how fast Time flies until all of a sudden it’s Time to write the monthly column for the Advocate again! As I write this, it’s Time for Unity in the Community - February 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Plaza Conference Center. I hope you were able to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to visit with our local officials, regional elected officials and legislators. Did you meet the many people who displayed information about their city, their business, their non-profit organization and many other amazing endeavors throughout our area? If Time was against you and you were unable attend this great event, I will cover some of the highlights in my next report! Now, it’s Time to turn our attention
to the issues before the current State Legislature and be watchful of those matters that can affect our businesses in the area. The Chamber’s Public
“. . . the Board has taken a support position on Senate Bill 177.” Policy Committee (PPC) has reviewed and is currently monitoring three Bills. The first is House Bill 15-1154 which prohibits the collection of an Interchange Fee defined as a fee established by a payment card network for the purpose of compensating the issuer of a credit or debit card on the portion of the total price that is a state or a local government tax. The PPC is also monitoring Senate Bill 91 and House Bill 1057. Upon recommendation from the PPC to the Board of Directors, the Board has taken a support position on Senate Bill 177 which, if passed, will fix some barriers to attainable and affordable home ownership. Membership Matters – Pinnacol Safety Program Helps Chamber Members Save Money, Promote Workplace Safety Since 1996, the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce has joined Shelly McLeod, Membership Director forces with Pinnacol Assurance to offer a safety group program designed to reduce workers’ compensation costs by promoting safety and claims management practices in the workplace. The Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce safety group program brings together groups of businesses with common risks that are committed to maintaining and enhancing industry-leading safety and claims management practices. If you qualify for the program, you receive access to resources and assistance for establishing safe working conditions. Members’ premium is based on their organization’s individual claims history. No member will pay more for participating in a safety group program than they would as a non-participant, and you earn additional savings on your workers’ compensation costs with an up-front 4% discount. There is also the potential to receive a safety group program dividend. A dividend is a portion of premium returned to a
policyholder based on the safety record of the safety group program’s members.
REQUIREMENTS
• Maintain a minimum loss ratio established by the safety group program • Comply with the safety group program’s training requirements • Maintain effective hiring, safety and claims management programs • Demonstrate management commitment to maintaining and enhancing a safe workplace • Implement a return-to-work program • Designate and use Pinnacol SelectNet providers (Rural exception for physical locations without a SelectNet provider within 30 miles).
