Esquimalt Community Arts Hub Walking Tours Want to learn more about the beautiful Esquimalt area? Do you have a camera you never seem to use but want to start taking pictures? Join ECAH on Sundays at 1PM for their walking tours. Banal photography is an art form that started as an off shoot of street photography in the 1960s. It is meant to capture the overlooked beauty of the places we see everyday. This Banal photography tour will take you around the Esquimalt Village as we take you to hot-spots of interesting art and architecture, while teaching you what banal photography is, how to achieve it yourself, and offering help and guidance in taking artistic photos. This tour will begin at the Esquimalt Municipal Hall, and end by Admirals Road. This tour is available to all skill levels and ages. Sign up at ECAH.ca. Ribfest

We’ve launched a new map service! Our goal was to make it easier for you to enjoy Esquimalt, especially in the hot summer weather. To help with that, we’ve created a handy map (mobile and desktop friendly) that shows beach access points, water fountains and public washrooms located in the township. Find it at Esquimalt.ca/explore Esquimalt Adventure Park The splash pad hours will be 10 am to 7 pm daily until September 6.

Gorge Waterway BioBlitz & Fundraiser Esquimalt Gorge Park Nature House August 28; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Bioblitz event involves the public coming together to identify species in a defi ned area (Esquimalt Gorge Park) within a set amount of time, using the app iNaturalist. Interpreters, biologists, and restoration technicians will be involved, guiding nature walks, and helping identify species. This event is a fundraiser and participation is by donation. Join us and be entered to win a prize based on the number of species you identify.

Ribfest Bullen Park September 9-11 Friday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. What’s Ribfest about? We are all about family, community, volunteers, kids, participation, and fun! A weekend of BBQ ribs, local entertainment, craft beer, cider and wine, free kid’s activities, local arts, and vendors. Outside operating costs, all proceeds raised by the Esquimalt Ribfest are returned to the community through the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Foundation and the Esquimalt Ribfest Society. Funds go to local charities and schoolsponsored activities for our community’s youth. Esquimalt Ribfest has six professional rib teams that compete to win the coveted Peoples’ Choice. Live music by our best local bands, crafts brews, wine, and cider. Free children’s crafts and activities.

New ginkgo tree planted in Gorge Park has significant history On August 9 at Esquimalt Gorge Park, a special event was held to commemorate the devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by nuclear bombs in 1945. The event was opened with a welcome from Elder Bear Sam and emcee Dr

A highlight of the event was the ceremonial planting of a sapling grown from a seed of a giant Gingko tree standing at the time of the blast in Hiroshima. You can fi nd the new tree planted on the west side of the Gorge Park Pavilion. The Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest living tree species in the world. So far in 2022, Esquimalt Park staff have planted over 140 trees in the municipality. The Township of Esquimalt acknowledges with respect that we are within the Traditional Territories of the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.
