P
DO Thread lifts are the newest non-surgical solution to a facelift with minimal downtime. We at Urban Smiles Colwood, like to call it the Lunchtime facelift, as it’s quick and the results are instant but will be even better as the threads settle in.

discomfort is quite manageable without the need for any painkillers.
I
n some ways, the end of summer can be tough to come to terms with. However, September does feature one more exciting adventure on Vancouver Island. This month brings the final stretch of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) regular season, and with it four pivotal Pacific FC matches at Starlight Stadium in Langford. The September fixture list for PFC includes home dates against York United FC (September 3rd), Atlético Ottawa (September 11th), Forge FC (September 18th), and the final regular season home match of the year against FC Edmonton (September 30th). For the most part, Pacific FC’s home form has been spectacular this season, highlighted by the 6-0 victory over Jamaica’s Waterhouse FC in early August. The performances on the pitch have also been more than matched in the stands thanks to the raucous crowds that have filled the stadium all year long.
Now, this stretch of home matches in September is crucial to Pacific’s CPL season given how tight the standings are from 1st to 4th. Last season Pacific didn’t get the chance to host a playoff match because a late season dip in form saw them finish 3rd. Again the Tridents’ faith is in their own hands and at least one home playoff game is within reach if the team finishes strong in September. The Island absolutely deserves at least one playoff home game given the amazing crowds Starlight has seen for all big Pacific FC matches over the past two seasons. The way that happens is simple: supporters make as much noise as possible and create the atmosphere for success in the stadium, and the squad uses that as motivation to shift into final gear and close the season with more purpose than any other team. This glorious harmony between the team and its supporters is second-to-none in the CPL. So this September stretch is not only crucial for the players on the pitch to showcase their talents, it’s also a chance for fans to show once again how much their support can spur this team on to greatness. pacificfc.canpl.ca

Golf for Kids working to fulfil dreams of children in the community
S
ince 1986, Help Fill a Dream (HFAD) has supported over 3,700 families from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands whose lives have suddenly changed due to their child’s diagnosis with a lifethreatening / critical condition. Support can come from HFAD’s Family Assistance program to help with practical and financial assistance. and when the time is right, children can have their Dream filled. More than simply filling Dreams however, HFAD supports families how and when they need it – providing everything from a gas card to get to medical appointments to the purchase of much needed medical equipment, medications or treatments. Often coming into a family’s life when things are at their worst, HFAD is there when parents don’t know how they will get through the most difficult of times. Filling Dreams and the assistance provided to Island families is only made possible through the generous support of our partners. Golf for Kids has been a vital member of the Help Fill A Dream family for 24 years. The incredible generosity of the Golf for Kids community has resulted in filling the Dreams, and providing support to thousands of Island kids. The longevity of this relationship and the scope of the commitment provided is rare and should be celebrated.
Just as Dreams are unique to each child, Golf for Kids’ sponsors and donors each have their own reason for contributing to the success of Golf for Kids and Help Fill A Dream. This year Golf for Kids is pleased to welcome Don Mann Excavating as the new Title Sponsor of the event. Don Mann Excavating have been supporters of Golf for Kids for many years. They are a local multi-generational company with longstanding roots in the Vancouver Island construction industry. “We are inspired by the generosity and giving that happens at this event, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with such an amazing organization that helps so many. Our family and our company share the same values as Golf for Kids so it is a natural fit. We’ve seen the positive effect of filled dreams on children and their families. That is what we want the impact of our support to be,” says Trevor Mann, CEO Trevor’s brother Graeme, of GT Mann Contracting, shares these same views and he immediately related to Owen’s Dream of a new standing frame as the reason was very personal and close to his heart. Graeme and his family made Owen’s Dream come true at the Golf for Kids 2020 event. “This standing frame for Owen was important to my wife Yvonne and me because our son Jackson was diagnosed with hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy in 2014. Hearing Owen’s story hit very close to home for me,” says Graeme. “As a parent, you wish you could change bodies with your child to make it better. In truth, it’s often my son that changes me and blows me away with his optimism and strength.”
Graeme says Owen’s determination and tenacity should be an inspiration to all who know him. “I am so grateful for all the wonderful people who make Golf for Kids happen and for the team at Help Fill A Dream who take the generosity of our community and turn it into tangible support for so many kids and their families!” “Owen’s stander lets him be at his peers’ level,” shares his mom Karena. “He can play basketball with his brother, roll
through the school hallways next to his bestie, and bake with me in the kitchen. It’s a whole new world!” Over its 36 years, Help Fill A Dream’s team has had lots of time to reflect on what it means to help local families and make Dreams come true during a family’s most difficult times. “We’ve impacted the lives of thousands of Island children. To see kids go on to experience fulfilling lives, the photos of their graduations and marriages and even the births of their own children has just been remarkable,” says Craig Smith, HFAD’s Executive Director. “So much of our impact has only been possible through the tremendous support from Golf

5 reasons to get your area rug cleaned by a professional
How do you preserve the life of your treasured rug? Professional cleaning will help retain its colours and textures, keeping it as luxurious as the day you bought it.
A
rea rugs bring warmth, colour and comfort to your home. They’re often the centerpiece of a room, but because of this they’re also likely to suffer heavy wear and spillages. Rugs in busy areas of your home, such as the living room or hallway, are particularly prone to wear and tear, and can soon appear worn or faded. So how do you preserve the life of your treasured rug and make it as luxurious as the day you bought it? Here are five compelling reasons why you should have your rug professionally deep cleaned.
1 TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE RUG – Regular professional deep cleaning of your area rug lifts accumulated dirt and grime from your rug, removes stains and preserves its quality for years to come. Rug fibres are damaged by dirt particles, which compromise the structure of the rug over time. Without professional cleaning, the rug becomes less cosy and comfortable and begins to look worn and shabby.
2 TO MAINTAIN COLOURS – One of the dangers of cleaning an area rug yourself is that chemical residues build up and can make the colours bleed into one another. Having your rug professionally cleaned ensures any chemicals are thoroughly rinsed out, and your rug looks like new with defined patterns and colouring.

3 TO IMPROVE HOME HYGIENE – Dirt and bacteria can accumulate deep down inside a rug, but the extent of the problem may not be obvious on the surface. Consider food particles and pet dander that can become lodged in the rug fibres over time – it’s a hidden danger that can trigger allergens and cause health problems if not addressed. This buildup can also affect the air quality in your rooms. Deep cleaning your area rugs removes the buildup of bacteria and makes your home a healthier place to be. 4 TO FRESHEN UP OLD RUGS – Professionally deep cleaning an older rug returns it to its former glory, and if done regularly, maintains softness, colour and quality for years. It also saves you money in the long run, as you won’t need to replace your rug, and it remains the eyecatching centrepiece you love.
5 PROFESSIONAL RUG CLEANING IS AFFORDABLE – Is your area rug an investment piece, a treasured heirloom or a reminder of a special time? Area rug deep cleaning is affordable, and by having your rug professionally cleaned you maximize your investment and protect your special inheritance or purchase. HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU HAVE YOUR RUG DEEP CLEANED? If your rug is in a hightraffic area of your home, it’s recommended that you have it professionally cleaned at least once a year. Depending on the type of rug, cleaning might involve hot-water extraction and a stain-protection treatment, or a dry-cleaning method if the rug is delicate.
