A REASON TO CELEBRATE

T

he Old Farm Market is very excited to have entered our 3rd year of business! We could not be more thankful of each one of our customers. Every day, we get more first-time shoppers saying they’ve made this their new home base for grocery shopping. We offer what the other grocery stores can’t: a first-class shopping experience at unbeatable prices – and we’ll give you the best customer service the industry has to offer. Come see what the buzz is about! The Old Farm Market is the home of local produce, but that’s not all that we’re about. Since we opened, we quickly realized that there was a demand in the community for a one-stop-shop experience. We listened, and brought in twentyfour additional feet of grocery aisles, a freezer department, and a meat department featuring Island-raised beef, pork, and poultry. You can get all your food needs here! And

stay tuned, because we’ve got even more positive changes coming to make our store a real destination. In addition to expanding in our own stores, we are also expanding as a company. We are very excited to announce that we have a new location opening very soon in Courtenay, BC. We feel honored to be a part of our communities and are overwhelmed with the excitement from our future customers and community members, as we are being welcomed with open arms. Our new location will be opening in a very short time, so keep an eye out! Thank you very much to all our amazing customers. It’s your incredible support and loyalty that has made this business a success. We are excited to keep innovating and bringing you the best experience possible! See you around the store! How hearing aids can help manage tinnitus

What Causes Tinnitus? Tinnitus is not a condition itself, but rather a symptom of another condition. Causes of tinnitus can range from prolonged exposure to loud sounds, aging, injuries to the head and neck, certain medications and/or other medical conditions such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease to name a few. How can hearing aids help? Currently, there is no cure for tinnitus. However, an individual with hearing loss and tinnitus, may find hearing aids can be used as an effective way to manage the perception of tinnitus. Hearing aids provide the ability to hear a wider range of sounds through means of amplification. This awareness of background sounds, helps reduce the awareness of tinnitus by essentially masking the sound. Many hearing aids today also offer built in tinnitus

masking sounds, which can be controlled through an app connected to the hearing aids. Will hearing aids help everyone with tinnitus? No. Unfortunately, hearing aids are not able to provide tinnitus relief for all individuals. Hearing aids are only one part of a treatment plan that can also include retraining therapy, counselling and in some cases medication. If you have questions or would like to discuss tinnitus management with our hearing health professionals at NexGen Hearing you can book an appointment by visiting nexgenhearing.co

ou belong at GNS, one of western Canada’s leading IB World Continuum Schools. Glenlyon Norfolk School is proud to offer our Community Scholarships, which provide entrance scholarships of up to $10,000 to new domestic Grade 8 to 12 students. This program is designed to make the GNS

learning experience accessible to students throughout our community. “It’s about students and their ability to be well-rounded,” comments Mr. Chad Holtum, Head of School. “Academics is only one aspect of what we are looking for in a student because GNS is about so much more than academics. We are looking for students to become part of our community, but also for those who are looking to contribute to the larger community of Victoria and beyond.” GNS is celebrating its 25th anniversary of being an International Baccalaureate

(IB) World Continuum School. This enriched academic program is complemented by robust co-curricular opportunities in athletics, arts, personal interests and service. This combination allows each student to work with their teachers and university advisors throughout their high school years to design their own unique pathway to graduation. Our students become caring, engaged citizens with strong character, and grow to understand both who they are and how they can positively impact the world and their communities. “The IB curricula challenges students to take learning beyond simple rote memorization,” says Mr. Holtum. “Students learn all of the same facts and figures as they would in a traditional school, but they then apply what they’ve learned in a hands-on, inquirybased environment. We’re still interested in the who’s, what’s, when’s and where’s—but we’re even more interested in the why’s, and in how our students will to their knowledge and use it to make the world a better place.” To find out more about our community scholarships and to learn how to apply, please visit mygns.ca/ community-scholarships.

Whether you are thinking about how often you need to drive or the distance to work from home or a myriad of other factors, the idea of commuting on two wheels has definitely crossed most people’s minds. That idea becomes a reality for many people as they begin to look into their options. Advancements in electric bikes have cut commute times in half. Charlie Employee of the Month

Brighten your spaces after the winter months Gift baskets with fresh, seasonal flavours Spring has Sprung with Fresh blooms, fresh flavours

S

pring has arrived not a moment too soon in Victoria, dispelling the grey days that have seemed endless this year. The welcome arrival means local, seasonal blooms are making an appearance, including yellow daffodils, tulips in a rainbow of colours as well as garden roses, lilies and other bright blooms. Flowers clear the winter gloom out of dark corners adding a welcome burst of colour throughout the home, or work space. Putting off that spring cleaning? A cheery bouquet adds an instant lift to a

room, no scrubbing required. Spring is a time that we seek to bring the outdoors indoors, a reflection of the growth and renewal we see at this time of year. Bring green accents into the home with a flowering house plant. Centrepieces are also a great way to bring nature’s freshness into the home. Try smaller centrepieces on coffee tables, entryway tables and other areas for refreshing seasonal touches. Celebrating something special? New items have arrived for our gift baskets, marking the season with fresh flavours and

tasty treats. Great for sharing, our baskets can be customized to the recipient’s tastes and preferences, whether it’s sweet, savoury or a mix of both. We are happy to customize our baskets to meet dietary needs and have gluten-free and vegan gift baskets available. And if the Easter bunny is scheduled to make a stop, we can help make sure the treats arrive on time. We are now taking orders for Easter delivery. Check out what’s new and seasonal at oakbayflowershop. com or stop by the store and say hello to Charlie.
