A COVID-19 Business Response

T

JOHN JURICIC Labour Market Consultant Commercial Real Estate Agent Serial Entrepreneur

he following is my personal Covid-19 business response. But first, some necessary reflections. I have run a business, worked through and survived six recessions / calamities / existential threats to our communities. The 1982-ish inflationary insanity and recession, the 1987 Stock Market crash, the ensuing early 90s recession, the early 2000s technology sector bubble and NASDAQ crash, the 9-11 tragedy and ensuing economic chaos, and most certainly, the 2008 stock market crash, mortgage derivative debacle and ensuing recession / depression. In all of these cases, folks predicted the end of the world as we know it. Well,

the worst of those prognostications never happened; we adapted and moved forward in our current circumstances, ultimately into the longest economic expansion in modern times. However, when I say adapted, I very much mean that in every instance. Our communities had to learn and change some of our behaviours. That is the only thing that we can guarantee and should mobilize for at this moment. So what will I do? My behaviour changes will include some of the following: > I will keep prospecting and trying to build my businesses. I will take my relationship building meetings to a technology environment. I will aggressively

use Zoom’s video conferencing platform and keep engaging with people using online tools. > When I do meet with people, I will practise social distancing, elbow pumping, hand sanitizing, washing hands and avoiding personal face touching. > I will put together a mobile “kit” including hand towels, soap and hand sanitizer. I will carry that kit with me at all times and offer to anyone I meet with. “This, too, will end” is a saying I’ve used a ton of times over my lifetime, and have lived thru to prove it. So, cya soon, somehow and somewhere :) John Juricic C: 250-812-8827

Laminate Flooring Understanding Laminate Flooring

nited Floors in Sidney has a lot of experience with laminate flooring. We’re familiar with all of its characteristics and capabilities. We want to build your understanding of laminate flooring; increase your information about it and decrease any concerns you may have about it. Whether it’s at our store or within our website, we want you to understand, learn, experience -- know -- as much about laminate products as you need to. If laminate flooring is a possibility, you’ve come to the right place and the right people. You’re in good company. Laminate flooring is the choice for many homeowners. There are many good reasons why laminate flooring is a popular choice in today’s homes. If it’s going to be a possibility for your home, you need to first understand what laminate is. Laminate is a manufactured product that simulates the look of hardwood, ceramic tile, natural stone and many other types of flooring. In the past,

laminate floors were easy to spot, but today’s technology allows manufacturers to create realistic visuals and textures for an elegant and quality floor. You’ll be amazed – maybe surprised -- at how beautifully laminate flooring resembles other premium flooring. Laminate is suited to those who want the look and feel of real hardwood or stone but without the cost or maintenance that can be associated with natural products. Laminate flooring costs significantly less than hardwood or natural stone tile. Laminate is popular among buyers who are looking for a beautiful, durable, yet costeffective flooring solutions. Laminate floors function well in any space offering a wide range of styles and colours. Choose from natural colours and dark wood grains, and warm or cool colour tones to compliment any room décor in your home. If the “plank” look interests you, many hardwood plank designs are offered in laminate, including rare, exotic wood species. Laminate stone and tile patterns give you the elegant

look of tile, without the concerns of grout cleaning or cracking tile. This is something you may want to consider. If you have a busy household or a home with children, a durable, low maintenance product like laminate flooring is a great choice for your active lifestyle. Laminate flooring is stain resistant; it doesn’t need varnish or wax. They are also less likely to fade in direct sunlight, unlike aging hardwood floors. Laminate floors have been used in Europe for more than 25 years. Why Europe you ask? Since laminate flooring can be installed over many types of existing floors it has made it a natural for old European buildings. More North American homes are being built with laminate flooring, as well as laminate countertops. By using the countertop technology and adding considerably more resin to the wear layer, some laminate floor manufacturers boast that their laminate floors are now 10 to 20 times harder than laminate countertops. Since the resin-filled wear layer is so dense, it becomes

extremely difficult to stain or scratch. Laminate floors are never secured directly to the sub floor, instead they are floated over the subfloor. This allows laminate flooring to be used over a wide variety of subfloors, including wooden subfloors, existing floors and even concrete slabs. Laminate floors offer many benefits including: exceptional durability, easy to clean surface, superior stain resistance, superior fade resistance, installs in/on all grade levels, even below grade, installs over different types of subfloors, great impact and indentation resistance, exceptional realism at affordable costs, and is easy to replace later on, if desired. ear - Central Saanich is a locally owned, independent audiology clinic, dedicated to providing the highest level of customer care in an warm and inviting environment. At Hear - Central Saanich, you have access to the most advanced hearing aid technology available offered at very competitive prices from a range of the world’s top manufacturers. Browse Hear Central Saanich’s website for info relating to audiology, hearing tests, hearing aids, hearing aid batteries, assistive listening devices, funding options and more. Because they are privately owned, they work for you, not a hearing aid manufacturer. Donna Stewart (M.A.,Aud(C), RAUD/RHIP) is the owner and audiologist at Hear Central - she brings 25 years of experience in the hearing industry. Donna’s belief is that by spending extra time with a customer during the initial evaluation and consultation, the best recommendations can be made and optimal outcomes achieved. Be an informed consumer You may have come across offers for “free” hearing tests. In B.C., services provided by an audiologist are not covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP). This means that when you go to a store offering “free” hearing tests, they will have to make up for the expense of providing that test somewhere else. The cost of that “free” test has to be absorbed by someone buying hearing aids. Essentially, “free” hearing tests are one of the reasons the price of hearing aids is higher than it could be. Hear Central Saanich charges for hearing tests. They generally spend about one and a half hours when testing and counselling with new clients. There is a value and a cost to spending that time. Because Donna Stewart is reimbursed for that time, it’s not necessary to tack the extra expense on to the price of your hearing aids. What it comes down to is that you can keep your hearing aid prices down because you aren’t having to pay for everyone else’s “free” hearing tests. Hear Central Saanich, 7159A W.
