He enlisted with the RCASC in 1941 going overseas in November of 1943. While serving in France in July 1944 in an attempt to rescue a companion who had stepped on a German land mine, he also stepped on a mine while saving his fellow officer and spent two months in hospital recovering from his wounds. It makes us so proud to know that all our dad’s suffering from losing his leg over the years, was because he tried to save his friend. We never knew, he never told us. We love you and miss you! BlueBird Cabs Ltd. was incorporated Jan. 5, 1946 and started with four cars and four members. WHY I WENT TO WAR

When I was age two, prior to his death, my Dad wrote me a letter. He explained: “I went to war Brian, so that you would hopefully never have to.” Dad also suggested my responsibilities in life, if he did not return; words that have guided me for 78 years.

One of the many thousands who died in WORLD WAR II

I HAD TWO GREAT DADS

Victor E. Wong Thank you for your service in World War II. Operation Oblivion, the secret mission for which you (and 99 other Chinese Canadian men) volunteered and served in Force 136, showed your dedication to your country. You and your cousin, Leonard Lee (left in photo), and good friends like Gord Quon, were willing to go behind enemy lines in Burma and engage in active guerilla warfare to sabotage supply lines as part of the effort to end the war. We commend and thank you for this sacrifice, especially given at a time when Canadian born people of Chinese ancestry were not granted full rights of citizenship, like the vote. Thank you for both winning the war and gaining the franchise for all Chinese Canadians!

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

In Flanders Fields

We remember. 11.11.22
