Raising Welsh PRIDE

Members of the Saint David’s Society of Lackawanna County held a flag- raising ceremony at the triangle at the intersection of Winola Road and State Street in Clarks Summit March 1 at noon. St. David’s Day, observed March 1, dates back to 1120 when St. David or Dewi Sant, the patron saint of the Welsh people, was canonized by Pope Callactus the Second. The St. David’s society was founded in 1910 and is one of many in the U.S. and Canada, as well in England and Wales. Locally, there are societies in the Wyoming Valley and Plymouth. Ystradgynlais,Wales, United Kingdom, is the sister city of Clarks Summit. For more photos from the event, see Page A5.
