Playa del Rey resident and movie stuntman, Mark Terry, recently authored his first children’s picture book, “Kyle the Coyote: Lost in the Desert.” that’s how the story came about and I started working with these artists while I wrote a story.” Terry’s first book, “Kyle the Coyote: Lost in the Desert,” released on April 3 is about a young coyote pup who gets lost in the desert and while he tries to reunite with his family, he meets different animals along the way. Terry said the book helps teach kids what to do if they are ever
separated from their parents. “The story kind of wrote itself because I already had all the characters in my head when I saw all of these characters on my trail camera,” Terry said. Terry also wanted his book to educate people about coyotes and their way of life. He said that living in Playa del Rey where there are wetlands near the marinas, many Californians are
afraid of coyotes and talk a lot about finding ways to get rid of them. “I’m not any kind of animal rights activist or anything, but coyotes are just like any other parents,” Terry said. “It’s the perfect way to tell a story about not being judgmental.” The book is an easy-to-read tale with illustrations by Alex Sarabia, an illustrator who Terry met while restoring one of his films, “Samurai Priest Vampire Hunter.” “Alex did a lot of illustrations for the movie’s comic book transitions,” Terry said. “While we were waiting for the sound mix to complete, all of the elements to realize ‘Kyle the Coyote’ were right in front of me.” Sarabia’s art is drawn and colored by hand, and for a higher detailed edition of the book, Terry wanted to off-set print some copies for a better quality

When the project was done, the artists wanted to continue working with Terry on another project. “I’d had this idea of doing a children’s book,” Terry said. He’d majored in writing and had a background in writing scripts, but never thought about writing picture books until he saw a little coyote that kept popping up in video footage from an outdoor camera he had purchased. “I kept seeing this little coyote pop up so I turned to my girlfriend and said, ‘Look, there’s Kyle the Coyote!’” he said. “So
