F.W. de Klerk: Acknowledging Injustice F .W. de Klerk, South Africa’s last apartheid president, died Nov. 11 at 85. He was responsible for freeing Nelson Mandela — who would later become his successor — from prison. DeKlerk and Mandela were jointly awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Mount Madonna School students interviewed de Klerk during their 2013 Sawubona-Ngikhona (I see you/Yes, we see you too) learning journey to South Africa.
