ABOUT
S C O T T S VA L L E Y
In Scotts Valley, you’ll find small-town virtues & character amidst soaring redwoods, next to great beaches, just a half hour from the hightech capitol of the world. The City of Scotts Valley is in the heart of Santa Cruz County, just north of the City of Santa Cruz, and thirty miles south of San Jose. People are attracted to visiting and residing here due to our close proximity to the Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay Area, and the Monterey Bay. Scotts Valley is minutes from the beaches of Santa Cruz and begins the upland slope of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. It is a great place to live, work, shop, eat and play! The City of Scotts Valley was incorporated in 1966, and at an early age was known to be a place that business and community thrive. Scotts Valley was named after Hiram Scott, who settled here in 1853, and established the San Augustine Rancho. Hiram built the Greek revival style “Scott House”, now located next to City Hall. This site is now a Santa Cruz County Historical Trust Landmark, and is maintained by the Scotts Valley Historic Society, preserving the home for future and current generations to see a glance of how it was in the early settlement days of Scotts Valley. The amusement industry began in Scotts Valley with the addition Santa’s Village, a Christmasthemed amusement park, once located on Santa’s Village Road. Featuring rides, games and of course Santa Claus and his team of reindeer, MacDorsa Park Mrs. Claus and elves, Santa’s Village was one of America’s first theme park chains. The park was sold in 1966, and finally closed in 1979. Today the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce and many passionate community members keep the spirit of Santa’s Village alive with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration in December. You can view some of Santa’s Village animals at MacDorsa Park in Scotts Valley, as well as more photos Scott House and items in 6

the collection kept by the Scotts Valley Historic Society at the Scott House. Another unique fixture in Scotts Valley’s past was the Tree Circus, opened by Axel Erlandson in 1947. This park featured trees that Erlandson grafted in uncommon shapes, including the “Basket Tree”, and others. Travelers can view the “Circus Trees” at Gilroy Gardens, where they were moved to and are still growing in extraordinary shapes today. One of Scotts Valley’s most famous residents was legendary film director, Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock resided on a large estate known as Heart O’ the Mountain. This beautiful property is now home to Heart O’ the Mountain Winery, known for their delicious Pinot Noir that is grown and produced on the warm coastal mountaintop As more businesses came to Scotts Valley, individuals decided to come together and established the first Board of Directors of the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce in 1957. Chamber members began to network with the area businesses and helped new business develop. Soon retail centers, dining establishments and professional services began to thrive in Scotts Valley. Scotts Valley is now home to a diverse community of artists, builders, entrepreneurs, hightech businesses, retailers, restaurants, and more. Scotts Valley is in the midst of an economic renaissance! Entrepreneurs are starting small businesses, new hightech start-ups are emerging and large companies are moving their HQ offices here. They are choosing Scotts Valley over Silicon Valley for our community, schools, and lifestyle and the business-friendly climate the City fosters.

LETTER
F R O M T H E M AY O R The City of Scotts Valley will celebrate its 50th birthday this year. From our modest beginnings, we have evolved into a vibrant municipality with much to celebrate. Scotts Valley has awardwinning schools, beautiful parks and a family friendly atmosphere. Scotts Valley remains the safest community in our County and one of the safest in the State. There is a strong feeling of community that contributes to Scotts Valley being a popular place to live and work.
The Scotts Valley Police Department has repeatedly been voted favorite government agency due to their involvement in the community. Businesses appreciate their relationship with the Police Department. Parents value the Department’s youth programs including DARE, the Junior Police Academy and a High School Resource Officer. Many local youth know officers by name. Our Parks & Recreation Department offers after school activities, various sports and summer programs. There are programs for adults and families including Bocce leagues, softball and soccer. The City offers many activities in our beautiful parks including Music & Movies in Skypark, Art, Wine & Beer Festival, 4th of July parade, fireworks and park festivities. Additional park amenities include a dog park, skate park, bicycle pump track, hiking/walking trails and a community garden. Further, efforts are underway for a new 9,000 square foot performing arts center. This project includes community participation and volunteer project days. Scotts Valley is business friendly, attracting high tech corporations, industry and related businesses. Our close proximity to Silicon Valley, clean air, lack of congestion, beautiful surroundings and great climate are attractive to businesses and residents. The City has also attracted small businesses and start-ups that appreciate the cooperative attitude in working with the City’s various departments. Creating opportunity, jobs and economic development is always a priority in Scotts Valley. The City celebrates our natural beauty and resources, with an eye to clean water and maintaining our small town feel. We have taken a lead in “Green Building” and efficient energy conservation in new development. A recent project included a groundbreaking water conservation system that injects more water into our aquifers than before the property was developed. This beautiful project has been studied by jurisdictions throughout the tri-county area. Over 25 years ago, before water conservation was in the news, the City developed an award winning recycled water system. Exciting new projects are coming to Scotts Valley. The 1440 Multiversity under construction will be a learning community for prominent personal and professional development faculty. This beautiful new campus is set amongst the redwoods in Scotts Valley. Kaiser Permanente is coming to Scotts Valley with new medical offices in the Granite Creek Business Center, opening 2017. The Scotts Valley Town Center is moving forward to include shopping, living and dining experiences. The new Lexington Hotel along Scotts Valley Drive is taking shape and plans to open next year. I’ve been a part of this special community for almost 48 years and I’m excited about our future. Come visit Scotts Valley and experience our wonderful shops, parks, business and real estate opportunities. Welcome to our little slice of Heaven. Sincerely, Donna Lind Mayor, City of Scotts Valley 10

Grebil has 34 years of fire service experience which began in his hometown of Tracy as a volunteer fire fighter for the Tracy Rural Fire District where, after one-year, he was offered a full-time position. In 1983 with the opening of the City of Tracy’s second fire station, Grebil was hired by the City of Tracy’s fire department where he worked his way through the ranks as an Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain and Battalion Chief before deciding he was ready to be the Chief somewhere.
He relocated to Ukiah, in Mendocino County, where he oversaw the Ukiah Valley Fire District for 15 years and served as an Emergency Command Center Officer for CDF for a year. While in Mendocino County, Grebil served as President of the Mendocino County Fire Chiefs Association and was elected by his peers to serve as the Operational Area Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid Coordinator which included representing Fire Districts on the Homeland Security Grant Approval Body for the county. His first campaign wildland fire was the Lexington Reservoir Fire, in Santa Clara County, (July 1985 – 14,000 acres and 42 homes destroyed). He spent five days in Santa Cruz, on an Office of Emergency Services fire engine, following the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. He has been responding as part of California’s statewide mutual aid system to wildland fires and other disasters throughout California and Oregon ever since. He serves as a Director on several Boards relating to the Fire District including Emergency Medical Services, Workers Compensation, Health Benefits and the Fire District Association of California (FDAC). Grebil and his wife of 29 years, Lynne, reside in Aptos. They have three grown sons.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Enjoy Scotts Valley’s fun events, like the Art & Wine Festival, Fourth of July Fireworks, and much more!
The Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce is known for hosting events and attracting people to Scotts Valley to play, eat, shop and stay locally. Every year the Chamber of Commerce helps to organize and provide volunteers for a number of events that help add to the fun of living and visiting here! The Chamber of Commerce puts on Ribbon Cuttings as a fun way to launch a new business in the community. We bring our troop of Ambassadors and Board Members, along with city officials to cut the celebratory Red Ribbon as a welcoming to the addition to our local business community. Once open we want to help you to sustain that energy and status by hosting a Business Networking Mixer with you. This is a great event to either attend or host! Make sure to have plenty of business cards and materials on hand, as well as a raffle prize to highlight your business! The Chamber of Commerce hosts mixers every fourth Thursday, from 5:30-7:00 pm. Our goal is to get people from all facets of the business community together to mingle, and talk about the future and present of Scotts Valley. No one in the county does Fourth of July like Scotts Valley! Classic cars, festive costumes, and community parade floats begin the festivities at the Scotts Valley Parade on Scotts Valley Drive. The entire City comes out, including the mayor, city officials, families, business owners and the surrounding community. As the parade ends the crowd heads to Skypark, where blankets are thrown out on the grass, popcorn and candy is munched, as people ready for 18

the only firework show in town. Every year the show draws in thousands from Santa Cruz, San Jose and San Lorenzo Valley. One of the Scotts Valley Chamber’s most recognized events is the newly rebranded Scotts Valley Art Wine & Beer Festival, held annually in August, at beautiful Skypark. The festival began seventeen years ago as “Art Under the Oaks”, with a small number of artists and wineries selling their wares; and has evolved into a festival with hundreds of artists, kids activities, live music, local wineries and breweries, and so much more! The festival offers free admission and is carefully juried to ensure the art is unique and authentic. We have a great lineup of local bands, California artists and perfect weather for enjoying food, wine, beer and fun with neighbors and visitors to the area. This festival positively affects the entire valley and brings in people from all over the county and Silicon Valley to shop, stay and play with us! Every November the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce and community come together to nominate select and celebrate those people and businesses who make living in Scotts Valley a pleasure. The Community Awards Dinner celebrates the Alvin Scarborough Memorial Man of the Year, Annette Marcum Woman of the Year, Business of the Year, Educator of the Year, Beautification Project of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Youth of the Year, Chamber Ambassador of the Year, and the Organization of the Year. We honor outstanding individuals and groups who go above and beyond in business and community support.
The year could not be complete in a small town without a Christmas celebration, especially in a town where there is a road named after Santa’s Village and a rich history of Christmas spirit! Come down to the Scotts Valley Community Center in December and take in the smells of apple cider, the warmth of smiling children and the exuberance of Santa and all the magic he brings with him! Every year members of the community come together with the Chamber of Commerce to watch performers from local dance schools, sing holiday carols, and welcome Santa Claus to the village to light the tree in celebration as a town and a family. It is an event wherein you truly feel the comfort of home for the holidays, even if you are visiting! No matter what the season, Scotts Valley is host to a number of fun events and things to do for our residents and visitors! Come and see what we have to offer!

PLAY LOCAL
The Scotts Valley Chamber is known for its fun events and for attracting people to Scotts Valley to play, eat, stop and stay locally.
Part of the attraction to Scotts Valley is the natural beauty, set in the redwoods and oak trees, lending to the variety of activities one can do here. The warm weather allows for many outdoor activities and therefore Scotts Valley boasts some of the most beautiful parks in Santa Cruz County. A favorite day would be to start on a summer Saturday morning with fresh fruits and veggies bought at the Scotts Valley Farmers Market. Or maybe even stay a while during one of their “Pop-up Breakfasts”, featuring gourmet chefs and fresh ingredients from local farm stands. Continue this day down the block and pick up something to read at the Scotts Valley Library, enjoy the art displayed there on your way through the aisles of books. When you’ve got something to read, walk over to the park. On your way, you will notice Scotts Valley Artisans’ a remembrance mural of Skypark history when the park was an airport. Once at Skypark you can continue along the paths, or stop with your favorite furry friend at Scotts Valley’s Bark Park (for dogs and people). This off leash-park features a section for small dogs, and one for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Your best friend can enjoy social time while playing with tennis balls and dog toys, drinking from provided fountains or just hanging out by your side. More can be enjoyed at Skypark, with or without your dog. The park is vast and includes soccer fields, play equipment, bocce courts, and BBQ pits. In addition to all mentioned, Skypark also features a large skate park, and a newly opened pump track. Parks and Recreation is constantly offering up fun classes, from their Jazzercise class, to ceramics with the kids, Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation offers a lot to do! Scotts Valley is also minutes away from beautiful redwood forests, including Big Basin State Park, Henry Cowell State Park, and Loch Lomond Recreation Area. Continue your afternoon with a hike or mountain bike ride through the spongy mountain trails, admiring streams, large and ancient redwoods and all that this part of the world has been for hundreds of years. 20

Scotts Valley natives and employees of local big businesses like Fox Racing Shox and Bay Photo all flock to Victor Square for some great lunch options. This neck of the woods offers up quick to go options and great sit-down spots. If you are looking for something to pick up or maybe you want to pull up a spot with friends at the picnic tables. Another favorite of the locals is Malone’s, who has been proudly serving Scotts Valley since 1980. Malone’s opened when Scotts Valley was a small, single stoplight town that shared the streets with horses. They’ve been serving the county’s largest – (almost a pound) - burgers ever since! They are also well known for their St. Paddy’s Day celebration. Relax with their beautiful outdoor patio, sip your favorite wines on Wine Down Wednesday, or enjoy live music on Fridays and experience Saturday night Karaoke,. Before you head back to the office or on your way home, and to find a special gift for someone, be sure to head over to Ashby Confections for a sweet treat! They offer chocolates and candies that are perfect for any special occasion! They are now featuring ice cream, and they can do a variety of things for holidays, weddings or many other occasions. Ashby Confections serves up fair-trade and organic ingredients whenever possible. As you head on down Scotts Valley Drive, options for dining in Scotts Valley are abound! Favorite spots include Mint Café & Wine Bar, a great place to meet friends and have lunch, a lovely appetizer, or dinner with a glass of local Santa Cruz Mountains wine. Salsa’s Taco Bar on Mt. Hermon road is another local favorite featuring Mexican dishes, vegan dining options, as well as a full bar. Maybe you are more in the mood for some home-style BBQ? You’ve got to carve out a night in your week for Rosanna Herrera’s place, Bruno’s BBQ. Bruno’s features a variety of options, full bar, a large dining room and a banquet room upstairs. But don’t worry vegetarian options are available. Bruno’s also does catering for weddings, school events, sports team celebrations and more. Owner, Rosanna, is known for her involvement in the community through the schools, Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce, she does a lot for Scotts Valley. Anyone can feel good eating and supporting a neighborhood restaurant like Bruno’s! There are so many great places to eat here in Scotts Valley, and the surrounding areas! REAL ESTATE SALE IN DIVORCE Divorces are rarely easy, very few end with zero disputes over major assets. The biggest shared asset is real estate. Whether the marital home or investment property. When selling, you need a Realtor that will communicate and help navigate you through the process. I work with spouses and attorneys.

ABOUT SCOTTS VALLEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The business community can have a major impact on the form that our town takes. Scotts Valley is in a unique business climate at this time, wherein the very image and sensibility of our community is forming right before our eyes. We, the business and residential community can have a major impact on the form that our town takes. It is important that we keep informed and maintain a voice as the fabric of our economy takes form. The Board of Directors of the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce is committed to representing our business members’ interest in this growth and in improving the community for future generations. The Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce offers many ways for our members to get the most out of their membership dollars. There is so much that we can do for members! Our mission is to promote business vitality and economic development here in Scotts Valley. As a Chamber of Commerce Member, you directly influence this community, and the more active you are, the more impact you will make. Our active Chamber Members’ involvement has a positive effect on the success of our community. There are many opportunities the Chamber can provide to support our mission to grow Scotts Valley while sustaining our small town appeal. The Chamber hosts monthly Business Networking Mixers throughout the year, as one way to make connections in our business community and to grow businesses here in Scotts Valley. The Chamber of Commerce hosts mixers every fourth Thursday from 5:30-7pm, at a different business every 44 Scotts Valley Business Directory 2016
month. We recommend that you introduce yourself at these Chamber events to at least six people you have never met before. This is your chance to get your business card out to interested parties and to connect with businesses who might be a future reference or friend to you. We also hold a raffle at all of our mixers, wherein you are welcome to bring a donated item, with your business card attached. By donating a raffle item, your business will be highlighted at the mixer and the proceeds will go towards supporting Chamber of Commerce services. And, when you are ready to host a Chamber event at your business location, give us a call. It is important to us that we generate a crowd and bring attention to your unique business location. In addition to hosting Business Networking Mixers the Chamber is host to many events throughout our community. The Chamber is proud to host the Community Awards Dinner, the newly rebranded Scotts Valley Art Wine & Beer Festival, the Christmas Tree Lighting Festival, and other community gatherings. Another way to get your business name out there and to gain exposure to our community is to volunteer your time at a Chamber event. By participating or becoming a sponsor for a Chamber event, like the Scotts Valley Art Wine & Beer Festival, you have an ability to further your connections to our small town community. This Festival alone draws thousands of people into Scotts Valley to shop, stay and play in our lovely community, and it happens every year because of our great volunteers and sponsors!
The Chamber advocates for members, along with referrals to our business members, we provide relocation packets to local real estate agents and visitors, to provide information on our local businesses. It is important that we encourage those coming to Scotts Valley to shop and stay here as a way to support growth in our local economy. For every dollar that is spent here locally we are providing money back to the community and that not only supports business, but also our schools and the infrastructure that makes up Scotts Valley! This year we have done even more to provide marketing opportunities for our Chamber Members! Advertise with us! We offer well beyond your membership dues in terms of advertising for all of our members annually, just keep us in the loop and in mind for your next advertising opportunity. Businesses can advertise with us at a discounted price through our special member-to-member discount rates, and we publish this Business Directory annually. The Chamber is also careful to watch trends in business advertising and we have updated our website, online calendar and social media. Our Facebook has grown from 700 to 2500 likes over the last year and now reaches approximately 20,000 people a week. Let us help you get the word out about your business, promotions and events! In addition to our flagship events and advertising efforts, the Chamber of Commerce is working for you! We host Ribbon Cuttings, Groundbreakings, and Open Houses along with business owners, to maximize attendance and exposure for these events. The Chamber offers Small Business Counseling through our partners such as SCORE and SBDC, wherein you have access to free and confidential counseling from highly experienced business executives. Let us be your information center, we maintain information on a wide variety of subjects, providing various tools in answer to a number of telephone and email inquiries.
Through the Chamber of Commerce, Scotts Valley is also associated with the California Chamber of Commerce, the Western Association of Chambers and other business organizations, which allow us to keep the community informed as to key law changes and gives us a voice for our businesses on local and state government issues.
