Welcome from the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the Sumner County Fair Association takes pleasure in presenting herewith the Premium List, Rules, and Regulations governing the 2021 annual free fair to be held in Caldwell, Kansas, August 5-8. We wish to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to participate as exhibitors. Every effort is being made by the Board to make this a successful Fair with a large number of quality exhibits, plenty of entertainment, and a place for you to meet your friends. All exhibits – with the exception of livestock, quilts, booths and banners, and wheat show – will be awarded $3 for first placing, $2 for second placing, and $1 for third placing. One check will be issued to an exhibitor for all premiums earned at the Fair and will be available for pickup at 12 noon Sunday. Thus, exhibits are accepted only with the definite understanding that if, for any reason whatever, sufficient funds are not available to pay premiums and awards in full as listed, the Sumner County Fair Association Board of Directors reserves the right to prorate premiums on a percentage basis. Even though this has not occurred in the past, the Board wishes to reserve this right. Your support by bringing exhibits and attending will be more than appreciated. The Board depends on this for a successful Fair. BOARD OF DIRECTORS, SUMNER COUNTY FAIR ASSOCIATION CALDWELL, KANSAS

Take a Hike! - Diabetes

Fundraising event benefits American Diabetes Association The Sumner County Fair Association board has chose the them of “Take a Hike! - Diabetes” for the service/fundraising project at the 94th Sumner County Fair to be held Aug. 5-8, 2021, in Caldwell. This event will honor all survivors and victims of diabetes. Any individual or group can rent a $10 space and set up a place setting or exhibit honoring a person who has suffered from diabetes. The exhibit can include pictures, hobbies or anything that portrays who your person is or was, and what you want people to know about him or her. In addition, there will be a walk to raise money on Saturday morning, Aug. 7, beginning at 7 a.m. All participants are to meet on the west side of the Caldwell High School track. The fee for the walk is $25. Exercise plays such an important part in the quality of life for diabetics, so it makes sense to honor them this way. Money will be raised by space rental and walk fees, and all proceeds will be donated to the American Diabetes Association. Donations will be welcomed and appreciated. The $10 rental fee/donations entitles you to a 24x30-inch space to honor your loved one. You may rent more than one space for the same person, or you may enter multiple place settings representing more loved ones. Use you imagination to capture your special diabetic’s interests and personality. Online registration is required for both the table space and the walk, and may be accessed through the Sumner County Fair’s Facebook page or website. The registration deadline is Friday, July 30. Table space rental will be due at the set-up, 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, or 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6. Questions may be directed to Cassie at 620-845-6426. Every attempted to keep displays safe and secure will be exercised. The Sumner County Fair Association is not responsible for accidents or theft. SPONSORED BY SUMNER COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Sumner County 150 Years - From Prairie to Prosperity

Grand marshals: Jay and Glennis Zimmerman

Jay and Glennis Zimmerman, South Haven, have been involved with county fairs since they showed livestock and other projects as 4-Hers in Sumner and Ellsworth counties. When Glennis moved to Sumner County after college, she began volunteering as a 4-H leader in clothing and foods. Then when her oldest son, Travis, was 3, she became involved with the Sumner County Junior Livestock Auction, clerking the sale and doing the bookwork afterward. When Glennis and Jay got married, Jay began helping with the Fair as well. Glennis was a fair board member from 1980 until she retired from the fair board this year. During that time, she has been fair board president four years, sheep superintendent for seven years, and served on various committees including the executive committee. She is currently the fair recording secretary, entering the placings into the computer program that computes fair premiums. She is still serving on the livestock sale committee, and creates the exhibitor presentation used for the sale. Jay has taken on whatever tasks need doing while supporting Glennis. He has built fence for Saturday night programs when they required tickets, watches the

pit pass gate at the Demo Derby and Figure 8 races, and does behind the scenes tasks that need doing. When they are not working at the Fair, Jay and Glennis, who are retired from their careers as a civil engineer/farmer and a school teacher/administrator, are involved with activities in their community. Jay is treasurer of the Community Church of South Haven trustees, and is treasurer of Jackson Township. He enjoys working on old tractors and has quite a collection, some of which run. Glennis is the webmaster for South Haven School District and for Comanche County School District. She substitutes at South Haven, and works at Beehive Quilt Shop to support her quilting habit. She also is the office secretary for the Community Church. Together they have four children. Mark Zimmerman, and his wife Kim, live in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Mark is a civil engineer with Burns McDonnell. They have three children. Jill Zimmerman lives in Manhattan, Kan., and is the president and CEO of Kansas Agriculture & Rural Leadership. Travis Theurer and his wife, Heidi ,live a mile or so from Jay and Glennis. Travis farms and raises cattle and show pigs. They have three children. Ty Theurer and his wife, Jennifer, live in Coldwater. Ty is the superintendent of the Comanche County School

District – South Central Schools. They have two boys. Following the grandkids’ activities keeps Jay and Glennis busy – from livestock shows to style revues to sports events to music events. And they wouldn’t have it any other way. Life has been good to the Zimmermans, and they would like to thank the Fair Board for the honor of being chosen 2020 Sumner County Fair Grand Marshals.
