Owls place five at Halstead

Tigers drop dual

The Garden Plain Owls placed five wrestlers in the top six at the Halstead Wrestling Invitational this past Saturday and placed 17th at the 22-team event. The tournament originally was scheduled to be a two-day event, but all matches were moved to Saturday because of inclement weather. “I think we wrestled well,” Garden Plain coach Joseph Gassmann said. “We got a chance to see some of our regional competition this weekend and it showed us what we did well and what we need to work on the next few weeks.” Francis Stuhlsatz (145 pounds) took fourth to lead the Owls, while Logan Albers (106) and Jeb Nowak (152) took fifth and the duo of Gabe Gordon (138) and Teagen Daerr (152) finished sixth. “Individually, we had some tough close matches and we have shown improvement,” Gassmann said. The Owls head to the Douglass jamboree Thursday and then up to Nickerson on Friday.

The Eisenhower Tigers had a bit of a rough night in their lone action on the wrestling mats last week as they fell to Arkansas City 64-18 last Thursday. Mason Levin (160 pounds) recorded the Tigers’ lone pin on the night, while Laine Burkhart (106) and Noah Doud (120) both won by forfeit. The Colts host Salina Central on Thursday and head to Hays on Friday and Saturday for the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic.

Swimmers dive back in The Campus Colts swimming and diving team are coming off a long break, after not having any meets last week. Their last action was Jan. 10-11 at Wichita North. The Colts began this week at Derby’s invitational, which was held at the Campus High natatorium. Next on the schedule are a pair of duals, both at Campus. The Colts will host Winfield this Thursday, and then host Derby next week on Wednesday.

Indians place five in top six at own invite

By Michael Buhler The Times-Sentinel

The Clearwater Indians placed five wrestlers in the top six and took 11th as a team at its own Clearwater Wrestling Tournament this past Saturday. That performance came on the heels of a tough loss to Mulvane in a league dual two days earlier. “It was a very tough week for us,” Clearwater coach Santana Seal said. “We were bullied against Mulvane in our dual. They were far stronger and more physical than we were. In the tournament we wrestled a bit better. Our attitudes were much better Saturday than Thursday.” Ethan Luckner (145 pounds) took third for the Indians this past

Saturday, while Lane Pierce (113) and Jacob Finney (120) both took fifth. Parker Bartz (106 pounds) and Austin Carlson (182) each took sixth, Trent Klausmeyer (152) finished eighth and Nick Foley (126) placed ninth. Two days earlier, the Indians lost 66-12 to Mulvane in an Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division IV dual. Pierce (113 pounds) and Jack Pawloski (138) recorded pins for Clearwater’s lone wins. Clearwater heads to the Douglass jamboree on Thursday and to a tournament at Eureka on Saturday. “Ultimately, we have a long ways to go to achieve our goals,” Seal said. “It starts in the weight room.”
