My Pulpit Message - notes The Power of a Dream
My Pulpit Message Notes are extracted from the sermon preached at the Nairobi Baptist Church (NBC) Ngong Road on Sunday 27th March 2022. Preacher: Mr Robert Mbugua. Topic: The Power of a Dream. Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:1-12. 1 Chronicles 29:1-5. 1 Kings 8: 62-65.

We need to dream big dreams. Big dreams will cost you big time. Big dreams are worth the big cost. God has a dream
He was given a country of Israel of which 50 per cent is a desert. Comparing the amount of rainfall in Israel and Kitui, in Israel you only get 31 mm of rain in southern Israel per year, in Kitui we get 900 mm of rain. Thus the amount of rain you get in Kitui in two weeks is what Israel gets in a whole year. Small land, desert, no water. And yet this man had a dream that basically he was going to turn around his country and make it food self-sufficient.

It was a really amazing dream. Most countries lose about 20 per cent of their crop meaning that if you have 200 bags of produce anywhere in the world, 40 bags goes to waste. 2 Samuel 7:1-2 In Israel out of 200 bags only one goes to waste. 1.We need to dream big dreams.
Wangari Maathai had a dream of dealing with Karura forest and the Green Belt Movement and making Kenya green. That was a big dream.

Eliud Kipchoge had a dream of doing the marathon in under two hours. JFK had a dream to go to the moon. Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Ben Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel.
About 90 per cent of sewage water is reused for agriculture. It’s the best ratio anywhere in the world. No other country reaches even 50 per cent. USA is only nine per cent, Kenya is non-existent.
One leader, King David had a dream to build a temple, but David Ben Gurion also named after King David, came many years later and he decided he was going to have a dream to basically turn around his country. What is your dream? What is our dream collectively as a nation? What is your dream as a church? What is your dream as a family? In 1948, David Ben Gurion became the first Prime Minister of Israel. He had a dream of making Israel self-sufficient but all the cards stacked/odds were against him. Whenever you see people who have made a difference in the world, all of them, what they have in common is each of them has a dream and I ask again what is your dream? It is still early in 2022 and you still have an opportunity to start dreaming and dreaming big dreams.

My Pulpit Message - notes 2. Big dreams will cost you big time.
3. Big dreams are worth the big cost.
Talk is cheap, but if you want to accomplish your dream you have to work It was worth what Wangari Maathai paid for as she got the Nobel prize. It for it. If you want to be a great doctor you have to spend some times doing was worth what Kennedy did as year laters, he was dead by then, as man the ward rounds and studying etc. landed on the moon. And Mandela became president of a free nation. Also David Ben Gurion. 1 Chronicles 29:1-5 One after the other one can see the price was worth the prize. People who “Then King David said to the whole assembly: I have provided for this holy have dreamt big dreams and are willing to pay the price are going to enjoy temple: three thousand talents of gold (gold of Ophir) and seven thousand a big reward. talents of refined silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings.” Often we see a passage like this and just keep going through it quickly. But checking how much is a talent of gold? A talent of gold is about 1000 ounces. So 3000 talents is about 3 million ounces of gold. The current spot rate of gold is almost 2000 dollars an ounce. i.e. 300,000 shillings an ounce. David contributed about 700 billion shillings just for the building of the temple and that was in the gold alone.
4. God has a dream 2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

The giant rocket was 300 feet tall, the same size as Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) which was the tallest building in Kenya. The Americans put together 400,000 engineers, probably more than the entire civil service in Kenya, working to put man on the moon. These guys were from 20,000 universities in America and companies. One can go and on about the cost the Americans paid to meet JFK’s plan.
Big dreams cost big time. For the Americans, it cost so much money, Eliud Kipchoge, it cost so much discipline, for Wangari Maathai, for Nelson Mandela, 37 years in prison, but for us this big dream cost God His very life. It was His blood that was shed, and that’s basically what the Holy Communion is about. Just remembering His blood that was shed for us and that is a big cost. That big dream come with a big cost. That big cost has a big benefit and that big benefit is eternal life.
1960s we did not have cell phone technology, but the Americans created When God looks at all those people who turned to salvation as a result a phone that could communicate with man on moon. It was an amazing of accepting what God has done, when that happens, then God will say it dream that cost big time. was worth the cost. When Apollo 11’s Eagle Lunar model landed on the moon on 20th July 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin were the first to land on the moon and they had to wait before they were given instructions to open the door. Aldrin was an elder at a Webster Presbyterian church and before he headed to the moon in 1969, he got special permission to carry the communion elements and serve himself. So as they waited to open the door or the door of Lunar model, Aldrin took Holy Communion. So the first food ever served on the moon was actually Holy Communion. Any of the people who have dreamt big dreams, one of the things you will find in common is that they each had to pay a cost.
When Eliud made it in under two hours, at 1:59 he looked back and thought it was worth the cost. When the American landed on the moon, they thought it was worth the cost. The blood that Jesus shed was worth the cost when people turn their lives to the LORD Jesus Christ. God paid a big price. God had a big dream that we would all make it to heaven. He paid the price and for all for us to accept that price it’s worth the price that Jesus paid because we shall then be able to meet again.
When you think about Wangari Maathai, she paid the cost. When you think about the kind of stuff she went through. When you think of Eliud Kipchoge who would run the equivalent of running to Naivasha every one or two days as a way of practicing. Martin Luther King. Nelson Mandela spent 37 years in prison. Big dreamers were people who were willing to pay a big cost.

Super Amazing Love
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is probably one of the most quoted and memorised verses in the Bible. Numerous songs have been sang about God’s love, poem written and recited and plays and movies acted out. Even atheists can recite this verse without error. So common it is that we could easily not even meditate it.

come from Almighty God. He knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. You may have had an earthly father like Jesse who didn’t see your potential and made you feel limited, but God knows how to cause the gifts He put in you to come out.
When Saul met David, he didn’t say, “Congratulations! That was awesome!” He asked, “Young man, who is your father?” (1Samuel 17:58). He was saying, “Where do you come from? You must have an incredible father.” I can imagine Saul telling an assistant, “Find out everything about David’s father.”
Your time is coming. You’re going to accomplish dreams bigger than others imagine. There will be people like Saul who wonder in disbelief, “How could you get a college degree, start a business or lead that company in sales?” What you’re going to accomplish is not going to match where you’ve come from.
Don’t discount yourself and don’t come up with excuses about how you were raised to settle for mediocrity. Your Heavenly Father has been watching over you. What He started, He’s going to finish. There are gifts and talents in you that He’s about to bring out.
The research came back, “He’s an ordinary shepherd, living in an average house, shops at a local market and eats vegetables. There’s nothing significant about Jesse.” Saul was perplexed: “How could David come from an average family and have such greatness in him?” The reason Saul was confused was because David didn’t tell him about his Heavenly Father. Your greatness and courage, the hero in you, doesn’t come from your earthly father. The Scripture says, “Every good gift comes from your Father in heaven above” (James 1:17). Here’s the key: You come through your father, but you

4 ways we kill vision
By Christian Muntean — President, Vantage Consulting | www.biblicalleadership.com |Image courtesy: getlucidity.com Three stonemasons in the Middle Ages were hard at work when a visitor came along and asked them what they were doing. The first stonemason’s sweat beaded his brow. “I am cutting this stone,” he grumbled. The second stonemason, though less distraught, responded with a deep sigh, “I’m building a parapet.” The third stonemason replied with a radiant face, “I am building a beautiful cathedral that will glorify God for centuries to come.” — Author unknown

Vision. The greatest accomplishments in science, art, business, politics, or individual life have all come from vision. Despite this simple, fundamental fact, identifying or clarifying vision often feels elusive, confusing, or frustrating for many people. But, it doesn’t have to be.
What is a clear & compelling vision?
of vision is often very exciting. Then, there’s almost always a stage of “grunt work” and persistence. That stage may last months or even years. This is where many visionary leaders start to drop off, get distracted, or chase a different vision. It’s also a reason why, in some cases, there is more value in generating vision from teams. If you quit building the cathedral in the middle, it could cost the vision-bearer credibility.
Effective leaders prepare for the long haul. My Sports ‘We’ve got a lot work to do’ says Hamilton after scraping solitary point in Saudi Arabian Grand Prix https://www.formula1.com/
Jaws hit the floor at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit on Saturday evening as Lewis Hamilton failed to make it out of Q1 for the first time since the 2017 Brazilian Grand Prix. But after finishing the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix down in P10, Hamilton declared that his Mercedes team had their work cut out to get back in the fight this year. Hamilton was pessimistic after qualifying – which saw him fail to make Q2 after being pushed out by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll in Q1, as Hamilton declared his W13 “undrivable” – doubting his chances of being able to stage a recovery drive to the front, as we’ve been accustomed to seeing from the seven-time champ over the years. And unfortunately that pessimism proved well-founded, as Hamilton could only progress from his P15 grid slot to P10, that climb aided by retirements for Valtteri Bottas, Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso – although Hamilton was also hurt by the timing of a pit lane closure caused by the incidents of the latter two drivers.
end, Hamilton replied: “The learnings are there that we are quite a bit off pace-wise, and we’ve got a lot of work to do.” George Russell at least managed to put the team in the top five on race day, having beaten his illustrious team mate in qualifying by securing sixth on the grid. And Russell said that P5 was the most he could have hoped to achieve on Sunday night in Jeddah. “P5 was the maximum today,” he said. “We would have loved to have had more but the car actually felt really nice to drive. We know what we are lacking and that’s downforce, but I think we got the car in a really nice window this race. “I was pushing as hard as I could and that was really cool. It was probably the most physical race I have experienced in Formula 1, which was cool to have the body pushed to the limits. That concentration throughout 50 laps on a street circuit like this, high speed, it was cool. But I want to be doing this fighting for victories, not P5 all by myself.
P5 was ‘maximum’ possible in ‘most physical’ race for George “Personally, I feel like I maximised everything,” said Hamilton Russell at the end of the evening. “I don’t know if we did as a team, but it is what it is. Move on. “You always want to take the positives from a difficult situation, but we are not here to settle for that,” he added. “We can’t walk “It was a difficult one. I saw Alonso slowing down, it was double away being pleased with that.” yellow flags so I didn’t push to overtake him, then Daniel was stuck in the pit lane so I didn’t know if I could go in [the pits] Mercedes now sit second in the constructors’ standings, just with the car just sitting there. It was just not great. Anyways, it one point ahead of rivals Red Bull, but a full 40 behind Ferrari. is what it is.” Asked, meanwhile, what the learnings had been from this week-
