STRONG IN THE GRACE
Be strong.
2 Timothy 2:1 says “You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”
- Before we can rush into ‘Be strong’, it is qualified, ‘…be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus’ This is important because it defines where our strength comes from, where our activation / power comes from.
- Paul writes to Timothy and tells him, the only means that you can be strong, the only sure foundation / platform that you can be stable enough to be strong is in the grace that is in Christ Jesus and so he shares what looks like a personal testimony in 2 Timothy 1:9-12- “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12 That is why I am suffering as I am.” Grace
Paul describes this grace in three ways:
This grace is old 2 Timothy 1:9
- Paul describes this grace as having been before the beginning of time. It precedes us and our sin chronologically. Before you and I came into place, before your and my sin came into place, this grace had been there from the beginning. God reveals it a little later in full in coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh, but Paul says it had been there in the beginning. It precedes your sin and my sin in terms of supply and demand.
- Before our sins got us to a place where we needed grace, this grace was there. It is older than your / my sinning. Before Adam and Eve sinned and were covered with these garments of animals that God offered to cover their sins, the plan of God had already been in place. It was not a haphazard knee-jerk reaction, no. This grace is old.
- Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- When you and I have this understanding that God’s love is older than our need for that grace He provides in His love, then all doubt, or validity or viability of our … is nonsense because we realised we are loved, we are redeemed by choice ages ago.
2. This grace is sufficient
2 Timothy 1:9-10
“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.”
- This grace is enough. It does not need additives, seasoning, multi-vitamin etc says Paul in 2 Timothy 1:9 “…- not because of anything we have done.” In fact the Bible says that our righteous acts are like fifty rags before God.” So God knowing how fallen we are, He makes this provision that doesn’t need you and I to make a contribution to it. He covers the sin adequately 2 Timothy 1:10 “who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”
- He did not attack death and left it seriously injured. It is not maimed, no. He defeated / destroyed death completely and effectively and then brings to us life and immortality.
1.
3. Effective
Old 2. Sufficient.

My Pulpit Message Notes
-
When you and I realise how covered we are by God’s grace, that we are not just trying to swim in a basin, or a bath tub, we are completely submerged by the love of God’s grace, completely covering us, then we can walk with a little more confidence and lift burdens that are beyond us,
- It doesn’t depend on us, or our contribution because what we receive from God, that grace is sufficient.
Theologians call this atonement; what we celebrate during Easter. If you like splitting hairs, there are two things that happen at the cross, expiation and propitiation. Expiation, that our sin was completely paid for, but in that and at the same action, something else was achieved for us, that the righteous wrath of God was appeased. And so we don’t hover around in doubt, or flex with our own resources. We flex with resources that have been given to us. Expiation and propitiation all done by Jesus Christ.
- Don’t go strong in your own might. We go and lift weights that are heavier than us because in 2 Corinthians 5:21 “God made Him who had no sin to become sin that we might become the righteousness of God.” This grace is old, it is sufficient, it is enough and that knowledge that it is old and enough gives us firm ground to stand and be able to lift weights in 2023 and say “Strong” as a Christ-centred church that is building strong families and transforming nations.
This grace is effective 2 Timothy 1:
- It is effective enough, Paul says, sharing his testimony, to turn the blasphemer and persecutor of Acts chapters 6,7, 8 through a Damascus experience in Acts chapter 9 into what he describes in 2 Timothy 1:11-12, a herald - one who announces like an evangelist the good news of Jesus Christ, an apostleone who takes leadership and propagates the good news among the churches, a teacher, one who precept upon precept grounds people in the word of God, and one who is able to endure suffering as a good soldier, an athlete and a farmer that he shares in 2 Timothy 2:2-6.
- This grace is available to you and I because the Bible says, its effectiveness is to the tune that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, KJV says, “Behold all things have become new.”
- Acts 17:6, it is said of these ones who had encountered Christ, Look at these men who have come into our city who have turned the world upside down. And they were just normal men and women like you and I with the same kind of infirmities, internal pressures, living in an environment with the same external pressures, but they fought the self-doubt and all these pressures because they were on firm ground that this grace is old, sufficient and effective.
- Acts 4:13, talking about these fishermen, “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
- The problem with you and I, people realise that we have done our MBA, doctoral studies (nothing wrong with that), that first and only we have experience etc. What if on top of our education, experiences of travel and exposure to all kinds of things and having high offices and titles, what if they realise that “these men and women had been with Jesus?” Wouldn’t the narrative be different? Wouldn’t we then be able to exercise more confidence and be strong?
Those who study tell me, the more you study, the more you concentrate on a particular area, so when you leave that area, you are no longer an authority. But if you are recognised for having been with Jesus, your studies, titles, education, experience would be useful, a platform, but the ground will be people saying that you have been with Jesus, because if it wasn’t Jesus, how do you as an engineer know things that are medical? Why, because Peter and John said, “Silver and gold have I none, but walk”. Wasn’t that medicine, analogy of anatomy and physiology?
- You know the prophecy of preaching to dry bones, they were very dry and Ezekiel prophesied to them and they became flesh. Isn’t that medicine? Did he know femur?
- In 2023 God is calling us to a new level and we can only go to that level of strength commensurate to our confidence on the ground that we stand.
- You and I are being called to areas that we do not have strength for, although we are muscled by God’s blessings in different areas. That we need to build by the grace of God, to appreciate that grace of God a firm foundation on which we can stand and lift weights that are heavier than a 65 year old church can do by the grace of God.
- This grace is old, this grace is sufficient, this grace is effective. Proverbs 21:31 “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” I like the word ‘rests’. The LORD doesn’t have to tether victory so that He is always holding it nearby, no. It is at rest because of the LORD is in control.
- As individuals and as a church, we want to make the horse ready for battle, but victory rests with the LORD.

My Life
How to get saved and spend eternity with God
His Love
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NASB)
My response
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
Romans 10:9-10 (NASB)
My prayer
Lord God Almighty, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You that You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to die for my sins. Please forgive me for all the sins I have committed against You. I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He died on the cross and You raised Him from the dead on the third day. Please write my name in the Lamb’s book of life. Help me to live a life that is holy and pleasing unto You. In Jesus’ Name I pray and believe. Amen

My Devotional
True Success
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” — Joshua 1:8
Webster’s dictionary defines “success” as a “favorable or desired outcome.” It’s so easy to have an external viewpoint of success. This is the world’s view. We base success on the amount of money we make, the kind of house or car we have, our career, and our personal “wins.” It’s so easy to fall into this trap of defining success with what we see.
The great UCLA basketball coach John Wooden wrote several books and is responsible for “The Pyramid of Success.” He is by far one of the most successful college basketball coaches ever, winning 664 games and 10 national championships, including seven in a row. His teams won an amazing 88 consecutive games. He defines success as, “Peace of mind that is the direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” His pyramid spells out 15 key building blocks and concepts that build upon each other to ultimately reach the apex: success.
It’s important for us as Christians to think about success from an internal viewpoint. True success is knowing God, knowing His Word and knowing His will for your life. Joshua reminds us in our Bible verse for today to make sure the Book of the Law is important to us. Make His Word and His will our top priority. Joshua stresses the importance of being obedient to God and His Word. By doing that, he promises success. Again, it may not be able to be measured with the eye because true success is evaluated internally. God reminds us that while some may get to experience the “riches” that this world has to offer, others will have their rewards in Heaven for eternity where moth and rust do not destroy
(Matthew 6:19).
We are instructed by God to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to also love others the same way (Mark 12:30-31). If we make it our mission to love God, love others, serve God and serve others, I can guarantee true success.
Prayer: “Dear God, please make it my heart’s desire to achieve true success. I want to live for You and know You more and more each day. Please show me Your exact will and plan for my life so that I may obey You and experience true success. May I love You and serve You while loving others and serving others.”

King’s Inspiration
THE POWER OF DECLARING
By William King | Email: kingwilliam189@gmail.com | image courtesy: Biblia.com
Words are powerful. When words of blessing are spoken over us by someone who has authority, such as a parent or a pastor, they have the ability to set the direction for our lives. The reason some people aren’t reaching their potential is they’ve never had blessings spoken over them.
They’ve never had anyone declare what they can become, who God says they are. The prophet Isaiah said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to declare good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to the captives... to proclaim the year of God’s favour” (Isaiah 61:1-2).
All those who would receive this declaration would see it come to pass. Hundreds of years later, Jesus read this same declaration to the people in the synagogue. He knew the power of declaring and having to hear victory, abundance, healing spoken over you for it to come to pass.
When Jesus chose His disciples, they were ordinary people - several fishermen, a tax collector; a zealot. Yet he looked at them and said, “You are the light of the world.” They probably thought, “Who’s He talking about? There’s nothing special about us.”
But down in their spirit something ignited, came alive. Their seeds of greatness began to take root. They felt rising up and destiny calling them. Instead of talking themselves out of it, they got in agreement. “Yes, we’re the light of the world.” Jesus spoke the blessing over them.
He declared favour and influence for them and because they agreed, they became the light of the world and changed it. Two thousand years later, they’re still impacting us. Perhaps the recent days have brought disappointments and dreams didn’t work out.
Thoughts of doubt have come such as, “It’s never going to happen. I’ll never recover, see my best days.” If the negative is drowning out what God has spoken over you, you need fresh favour spoken. A fresh anointing. That’s why I’m going to declare a blessing just as Isaiah did.
I declare that 2023 will be a year of God’s favour for you and your family, with healthy relationships and good friends. New doors are about to open, with promotion, success and creativity. You are blessed with good health, vitality, energy.

DELIVERANCE THROUGH ASSIGNMENT cont ... Wambui’s Reflections
By Wambui | image courtesy: musings and wonderment
1st Kings 17:8
This is the story of Elijah the Prophet and the Widow of Zarephath..
The woman who was a widow was given an assignment to feed Elijah with the last oil and flour she had by baking him a bread. This widow was still under the Curse of Famine.
She was broke, hungry, but with an assignment . You can be sick, but with a heavenly assignment.
After she obeyed and baked him bread, the Lord through Elijah filled her jars with oil and containers with flour. She was instantly delivered out of famine and into plenty and abundance!
Lessons
1.) God picked this widow just like He can pick you or I among many so as to deliver you or I.
2.) God can tell you to pray for someone else even when you are sick yourself so as to give you healing.
3.) We do not serve God because all is well, or okay with us. NO! But because we are on assignment.
don’t be mislead by your servant”...
Sure enough she got a son and she kept on feeding Elisha. One day her only son died. As she saddled her donkey and went to meet Elisha. Note here Elisha asked his servant to go ahead and meet her. When she had reached and took hold of his feet, Elisha said to his servant, “she is in bitter distress, but the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me why.”
Meaning, God does not always reveal His Secrets to His servants, that is, bishops, pastors, prophets etc. The Lord chooses what to reveal and what remains hidden and only known to Him.
In short her son was resurrected, why? Because she was still on her assignment.
Lessons
1.) Whenever we find ourselves in difficult situations be it as individuals, or communities, or even as a nation it is important for us to find out from our Maker - what our assignment is, are we under a curse, or judgement and what we are expected to do.
2.) Our assignments give us: - Deliverance.
- Preserve our deliverance.
_2nd
Kings 4:8 - End_ Elisha and the Shunammite Woman
- This woman was under the curse of barrenness..
- Elisha who went to Shunem had met with a well to do woman.
- Though she was barren she was in her assignment. She fed Elisha everytime he came their way.
- She also convinced her husband that they should make a small room for Elisha so that he could stay in their home every time he passed by.
- One day Elisha called out to this woman and asked her, you have gone to all this trouble for us, now what can we do for you?
Remember all this time she never spoke of her problem and even when she was asked she still did not say anything.
It was Elisha’s servant Gehazi who told Elisha that she does not have a child and that her husband was old.
As Elisha was about to leave he called her and said “About a this time next year,’ you will hold a son in your arms. ‘No, my lord! She objected. “Please man of God
3.) God calls disobedience same as witchcraft.
4.) When an anointing has been used to set you free stay around it until you are able to maintain your anointing. Stay around and in the presence of God!
5.) Elders, or overseers of the church, leaders in whatever capacity, spiritual guides etc....
(a.) Clothe yourself with humility.
(b.) Be free from pride and arrogance
(c.) God opposes and defeats the proud and gives favor and blessings to the humble.
(d.) Integrity must be of paramount priority.
Conclusion
When we develop a personal / intimate relationship with God then we do not fall victims of “so called men / women of god “ who are out to financially gain from our ignorance and lack of knowledge....

Entrepreneur
3 ways to nurture your soul
www.biblicalleadership.com | ByDavid Bowman | image credit: istock
The world of work will quickly drain your soul if you're not careful. Having to make complex business decisions, the sketchiness of some organizations, and the constant battle for balance can have your soul in turmoil.
Because of this, our spiritual life often looks anemic. There's not a lot of thought put into what we're feeding our souls. We may even completely forget to take in biblical content.
Before we know it, we're feeling drained and disconnected from God. There's good news: you can find spiritual nourishment in multiple places. I want to help you top up on your soul and keep it filled in this article.
I believe there are quite a few ways to nurture your soul. Some of these ways involve being in a church community where you're held accountable and growing. Other ways include non-traditional methods of nurturing.
I find the non-traditional ways can be some of the most fulfilling. I hope you will as well.
1. Church fellowship
God made us to be communal. There's something about gathering with other people to worship God and hear the word.
Make sure you're making time to fellowship in the church. Go to a Sunday or Saturday service. Find a time that works for you.
Too often, we believe we don't need the community church attendance brings. We're wrong. We need the community of the church to keep our souls healthy.
2. Spend time in a devotional and the Bible
We love soaking up the latest leadership insights through blogs, podcasts, and YouTube or TikTok videos. We regularly forget about the greatest book ever written.
The Bible is a wealth of information about our lives, how God loves us, and what part we play in all of this thing we call life.
Make sure you're grabbing a great devotional and the good Word. The more time you spend with God, the more your soul will be nurtured.
3. Serve others
Our self-centeredness comes from being so wrapped up in our lives that we forget that others are struggling. There are plenty of people out there who need help.
You can serve at a local food pantry, the city rescue mission, or at a local school. Find a place to serve.
You will discover your soul fills full from the people that are being helped. You find out that you can make a difference, even if the difference is to only one person.
Serving others will nurture your soul!
BONUS: Exercise
This may seem the strangest of the ways to nurture your soul, but I've found this to be an extremely intense way to meet with God. I've also seen others who have had God moments while exercising.
A fellow Team World Vision runner would constantly pray while running. He wouldn't pray silently. Oh no, you could hear him coming or going because of his vocal prayers.
This gave him time to talk with God. His prayer time while running filled him up. You can be filled up as well when you exercise.
Find a way to pray, sing, or meditate on the presence of God while you're exercising. You may find yourself in a deeper, more fulfilling relationship with God afterward.
Your soul needs attention
Your soul needs attention. You cannot lead a meaningful life while ignoring the eternal part of you.
Make sure you're focusing attention on your soul in addition to the other parts of your life. It's not the easiest thing to pay attention to, but it is the most vital.

Why Adolescent Health Matters
By Dr. Pauline Samia, Chair, Department of Child & Adolescent Health and Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at
University Hospital | Image courtesy: Health Executive
Addressing the needs and vulnerabilities of adolescents is fundamental for ensuring the long term health of future generations. Almost every family has an adolescent struggling with a variety of developments including biological, social, educational, and further evolution of the brain and the mind. Utmost support is of critical importance to enable them go through the transition processes while acquiring essential values as they develop.
Adolescence is broadly defined as the period marking the transition from childhood to adulthood, usually between ages 10 to 19 years. With about one in every four Kenyans being an adolescent, growth of this segment of the population has maintained an upward trend in the last decade. Adolescents are by and large a physically well population and their health needs easily fall through the cracks.
Adolescence is notable because it co-occurs with puberty, a biological phase characterized by hormonal changes and the development of secondary physical features. What differentiates adolescence from other periods of human growth
and development is its association with increased risk taking behaviors which is easily influenced by emotional states.
Exciting and influential bodies of science are now focusing on understanding how children navigate this transition, how they respond to the challenges presented by the transition, and what types of protective factors may be especially important for adolescents during this developmental period.
Many health-related behaviors that emerge during adolescence have consequences for current and future health and development. Adolescence provides an opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles that will have far reaching consequences in adulthood. This includes cultivation of healthy interests beyond school and employment such as keeping fit, building individual mental resilience, engagement with positive family values, giving back to the community and wholesome eating habits.

My Health

Kenyan adolescents face major challenges in regards to drug and alcohol abuse. In recent years, minors have been arrested in several towns in Kenya for unsafe behavior under the influence. These matters continue to jeopardize adolescent development and also project into health-threatening alcohol, drug addiction, and other related disorders later in life with substantial public health implications. Health workers have a responsibility to educate adolescents early on about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse at every opportunity.
Adolescent childbearing is another concern that remains prevalent in the country. Kenya currently has the third highest rate of teenage pregnancies worldwide with one in five adolescents aged 15 – 19 years already having had a child or pregnant.
Studies also reveal the major health risk of unsafe abortions for adolescent girls, with approximately 17 per cent of girls below the age of 19 seeking post-abortion care. These findings portray the urgent need to improve education surrounding substance use and avoidance of adolescent pregnancy guidance to encourage adolescents make smart decisions that positively impact their future health and well-being.
In order to advance global child and adolescent health, the United Nations 2030 Agenda highlights a predictive model where child and adolescent health takes center stage through the Sustainable Development Goals.
Some of the key areas of focus in this agenda include: Ending preventable deaths of newborns and children under five years; promoting mental health and well-being; strengthening the prevention and treatment of substance and alcohol abuse; and ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services.
To achieve these goals, Kenya national health and education policies need to align with these agendas to ensure that no adolescent is left behind. A balanced approach capitalizing on interdisciplinary collaborations is paramount for promoting effective multi-sectoral partnerships that strengthen the best possible health outcomes for adolescents and by extension the country.
“Kenya currently has the third highest rate of teenage pregnancies worldwide with one in five adolescents aged 15 – 19 years already having had a child or pregnant. “

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon kosher salt
3/4 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

JOYFAITH WAITHIRA: Differently Abled With Abilities to Lift and Inspire from Deep Waters
Left: JoyFaith Ndirangu swimming freestyle stroke at the Kenya School of Law pool. Up: with her coach Leland Salano, the founder of Castle Sports and Events Limited and other swimmers
20 year old JoyFaith Waithira Ndirangu has an infectious smile that is hard to ignore even for the soul that feels battered by the hardships of life. Though differently abled, she has the ability to lift and inspire those sinking in deep waters of life, literally.
The third year Bachelor of Science in Computers student, had her legs amputated four years ago after a road accident that almost cost her life. However, she has risen above this loss and uses her hands to swim like any other swimmer who has all their limbs intact. She can swim various strokes in both shallow and deep ends of a standard sized swimming pool.
Only the keen eye will notice a slight difference, if any, in her swimming style and others realise her missing limbs only when she lifts herself out of the pool.
Talking to her trainer, coach Leland Salano, the founder of Castle Sports and Events Limited, he said, “I met JoyFaith by herself at the Kenya School of Law swimming pool and was inspired by her determination to learn swimming. I offered to train her in the sport and she was happy and willing to be coached.”
“Over several months of training, she has improved her swimming techniques
and I am confident that she can participate in competitive swimming such as Paralympics if given the opportunity. I appeal to our Cabinet secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, Honourable Ababu Namwamba, and other well wishers to consider ways of supporting youth such as JoyFaith who are differently abled either through scholarships, or otherwise and help them achieve their dreams and inspire all who are watching them.
