Teachers’ Notes The Money Book has been specifically written for students living in Australia studying Mathematics in Foundation to Year 2. All of the activities that you will find in this book are linked to the new Australian National Curriculum. This book will help students to develop their skills in subtraction, addition, multiplication, division and problem solving using Australian coins.

w

As students complete the activities they will develop their understanding of Australian money by learning the different values of Australian coins and by examining how coins are used in everyday practical situations, such as buying items in a shop and receiving change.

ie

The activities do get more difficult as the book progresses, however teachers may choose not to use the book sequentially.

ev

In conjunction with the use of activity sheets, it is strongly advised that children have access to actual coins, particularly in the case of those who benefit from the handling of concrete materials.

Pr

Mental mathematic exercises have been included in the final pages of the book. These get progressively more difficult. Using these with children will provide a sound consolidation of the concepts presented earlier in the book. To sustain the interests of young minds the pages in the book are visually appealing and varied. Students will be asked to: cut and paste, match, draw, write, round up and down and study data to demonstrate their skills. Answers are also provided.
