Teachers’ Notes Kids love solving puzzles and so these crosswords will help children develop their reading and writing skills whilst still having fun. As students complete the crosswords in this book they will develop their knowledge of: phonic sounds, silent letters, homophones, grammatical rules, plurals, present and past tenses, nouns, adjectives, and common abbreviations. They will also increase and consolidate their general knowledge on a range of topics. Age Recommendations: • Start students below their ability levels to give them confidence before the clues get progressively harder.

w

• The reading levels are only a guide; consider your students’ individual abilities. • Encourage students’ use of dictionaries and atlases.

ie

• Suggest that students use pencil rather than pen as mistakes can be so easily made.
