COURSE CONTENT This is a one year entry level programme in hairdressing taught in conjunction with the basic skills department. The main aim of the course is to give students confidence through their practical and basic skills to access the mainstream programme the following year. The course will support those with basic skills needs and there will be dedicated sessions. Learning support will be available to those students with an identified need. Accreditation will be given for Edexcel FS in Literacy & numeracy, and Introductory Cert in H&B from VTCT ..The level will depend on students’ ability. The course is designed to give the students the opportunity to work towards the Diploma NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing. Selected workbooks are used from the Level 1 programme alongside the entry level programme. Basic skills are integrated into this. Students will attend practical sessions in the salon. Students will be given regular oral and written tests to assess knowledge and monitor basic skills. Tutorials will provide feedback sessions and allow the student to monitor their own progress through individual learning programmes. Progress will be monitored by the entry level tutor. All students will be encouraged to take part in competitions and other college based activities.
