The post-Covid world looks bleak. The devastating impacts of climate breakdown continue to be felt around the globe, whilst Tory cronyism and economic mismanagement add to the sense of a desolate future for many within the UK.
Yet there is also cause for hope, not least with a properly-funded and carefully thought through Green New Deal that places workers and communities at its core. Such measures make clear that crushing levels of unemployment, rapidly growing inequality and a broken economy are not inevitable.
This locally focused manifesto, developed from a 2019 public meeting that Merseyside Labour for a Green New Deal held for over 70 Labour Party members, trade unionists and climate activists, outlines how a Green New Deal might help address many of the issues that we face locally in the years ahead.
In producing this document, we hope to contribute to discussion and policy debate across the region, whilst working towards the creation of a brighter future for ourselves. One that is worth fighting for.
