How to celebrate A New Year
Thieves pry open drawers, take parcels from locked drawers
Sometime between late evening on December 31 and early afternoon January 1st several large locked parcel boxes where pried open in the Mill City Post office and their contents removed. Inside those boxes where 3 packages, presumably intended for someone other than the culprit(s) who damaged federal property to remove them. The Mill City Post Office has ten large locked boxes that can hold large packages for patrons who cannot make it to the Post Office during normal business hours to retrieve from the postal workers. If anyone noticed anything suspicious during these hours or anyone leaving the premises with large packages they are encouraged to contact the Linn County Sheriff Department at (503) 967-3911. There is more than one way to celebrate the coming of a New Year. Many readers reported snugging into bed early for a good night’s sleep, while others partied till the wee hours of the morning. Many shared the time with family and friends either gathered around a feast or sharing a ceremonial moment. Neighbors from the Elkhorn area, Mick Evans and Mike Sheets (pictured at top), took to their dual sport bikes for a New Years Day ride in the woods. They landed at Tom Rock, a 3,400 ft elevation peak in the mountains immediately south of Mill City. From here you are looking north over Gates to Mt. Horeb and beyond. You can also see Evans Mountain, part of Henline Mountain and Rocky Top.
