UZZ... I woke with a jolt to the buzz of our doorbell. I sat up straight on my bed. I fell back onto my elbows, my ears were ringing. I leant on one elbow and lifted the other, to reveal what time it was, 0:11. I rubbed my eyes and asked myself, who on earth could that be? I pulled off my blankets and sat at the edge of my bed. I stood up, grabbed my bathrobe and walked towards my bedroom door. I opened it and walked down the stairs, I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know anyone who would ring the doorbell at this moment, I reached the
the door and looked through the peephole. I jumped back at the horrific sight of a zombie, that turned out to be my very tired neighbor wearing her bathrobe. I opened the door and asked her what was going on.

wake me again!” She shouted. “I won’t. Goodnight.” “Goodnight Fred, I mean Robbert.” She walked away and almost tripped on a tree branch. I closed the door and went back up the stairs. What was so urgent? And why did she have to wake the neighbor? I sat on my bed and grabbed my phone. I dialed Birgit’s phone number and put it to my ear. I listened to my phone dial, and after a few seconds she answered.

fine. What’s wrong? Why are you so shaken up?” She wouldn’t listen to me. “It’s all over the internet and news! I’m worried!” “What happened?” “How far away is the coup?” At that moment my heart stopped. A coup? In Turkey? WHAT? Does this mean death? I kept asking more and more questions that I didn’t know the answer to. “Robbert are you still there? Robbert?” “Yes.” I answered. “Where are you? Are you safe? I couldn’t reach you!” “I’m home, I think I’m pretty safe.” “Are you sure! I don’t want you getting hurt.”
didn’t answer, and some didn’t know much. I put my phone back down. I didn’t know what to do next. I looked up at the door that was just a jar. I wanted to stand up and close it, but something stopped me. I heard a tiny buzz and looked down, one of my friends had said texted something to me. I picked up my phone to see what it said more clearly. “Look at the CNN Turk News.” I wanted to use the advise but I couldn’t because we didn’t have cable. Then I remembered that our neighbors had cable. I stood up ran towards the front door.
use your cable.” I said. “Why? Wait you know what? OK fine!” She said, “But I don’t want you at our door again until tomorrow!” She said, she walked away from the door and showed me to the TV. I grabbed her controller and sat down on their couch, she stood there staring at me and then at the TV as I turned it on. I asked her what channel CNN Turk News was on. I changed the channel to the answer she gave me. I was lucky because there was news instantly. I looked at my neighbor and asked her if she could sit down and translate for me. prepared at all. She said something in Turkish, and then she did something no other newscaster ever did, She pulled out her phone and showed it to the camera. There was a figure on her phone that seemed to be talking. I felt my neighbor sit down next to me. I looked at her, she was focused on the TV, her droopy sleepy eyes were now wide and tense. I looked back and could finally make out who the person on the phone was. It was Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he was using facetime to contact the newscaster. He said something in Turkish that seemed important but I didn’t understand. I looked beside at my neighbor to see if she was ready to translate for me. She listened very closely to what President
