Forword My name is Nandeeshwara Rao. I am a very religious person. I pray every morning and evenin. The Sangameshwara temple is located at the interception of the Krishna river and the Tungabhadra river. Sangam means a meeting point and in this case the rivers meeting and on the other hand Eswaran means Lord Shiva. Shiva is the source of all rivers and when river collide they worship Shiva.

Srisailam Dam In 1981 the Government in a place called Srisailam decided to build a dam. When they finished the flow of the water started to flow the other way and in the intersection the water level started to rise up. Unfortunately the Sangameshwara(Lord Shiva's temple), was affected by the water levels. So the government decided to relocate the temple. The closest town that was not going to be affected by the water level was Kurnool. So the government numbered all the bricks and relocated all the pieces of stone and stored them in a truck and placed them on a hill in Kurnool.

Building the temple The government rebuilt the outside shell of the temple but did not give electricity, water or roads to the temple. The temple did not have the Shiva lingam in its right place. The Shiva lingam has no beginning or end. It is omnipresent. Omnipresent means he is everywhere.

Whenever I used to see the temple, I used to feel sad as it has a very nice history*.So myself and my like minded friends came together and decided to put the shiva lingam back in it's place and make it a real temple.

Social Gathering We gathered people . So first we needed the permission of the government. We had a fair chance of the government allowing us but also a fair chance of the government saying no. I prayed to god that they would allow us. The government was more than happy to give us permission, but on one condition, that the temple should not be damaged. We promised that the temple would not be damage. Before we left I asked them if they could lend a road-roller. They said they would but only for one day.

Another problem

We thanked the government and then the first work was to place the shiva statue in the right place. with the help of the people lifted the statue of Shiva and carefully put it in a right place. And that day I was very tired. So when we went to look at the temple there was no priest or electricity or water and nobody was worshiping the god.

No Supplies

When me, my wife and my friends went to the temple to worship there was no electricity, no water, no road to the temple, itI was very difficult to reach there.

Road to the temple

We (with the help of government) just flatten the ground. We just went over the road plan and just ran the road-roller over the ground, and it flattens the ground well enough.

Electricity We bought an electrical ground water pump. And because we bought an electrical ground water pump. And because it was on top of a hill all the groundwater was collected at the top of the hill where the temple was located. So we did not have to dig deep. Now to make the electrical pump work we needed electricity. And also to make the temple lights switch on we needed electricity. We asked the government for electricity and they allowed the electricity. We watched as the government build the poles and attach the wires and all that work.

Priest We went to a priest’s house and we asked him to come to our temple. The priest said that he would first want to see the temple. So we took him to the temple. The priest just looked at t1he temple and agreed. He said that he was a big devotee of Lord Shiva. So when he was about to begin his prayers he looked around and was disappointed to see no one was listening to his prayers. So he asked us to do something about it. We asked the newspaper office and asked if we could write a column. The manager allowed us. So the next day on the newspaper our advertisement was written. And that day the temple was full of people. I felt very proud us. We celebrated for our success.

Public service After the advertisement, very few people used to visit temple as it was very far from the actual town. The government made a new bus route that is near the temple. because of this now many people visit the temple regularly. Apart from this temple I have created a trust under the name of my parents Sri Lakman Rao and Smt. Subbalakshamma. We have built a school for poor in our village and brought irrigation facility to our village and help students for furthur studies.

This is dedicated to my dear paternal grandfater
