STORIES FROM AND ABOUT GUESTS ON RADIO SHOW: A HOME FOR THE CREATIVE!
A HOME FOR THE CREATIVE
IN THIS ISSUE
OCTOBER 2012
by Christina Leigh Pritchard
A HOME FOR THE CREATIVE is an internet radio show that focuses on what we’ve learned about the awesome people we’ve met along the way! We believe that when someone has a gift, it’s our duty to share that with anyone who will listen. At A HOME FOR THE CREATIVE, you’ll be introduced to authors, artists, readers, musicians, nurses, doctors, runners, singers, songwriters, poets, actors, photographers (but mostly writers) and a slew of others! You’ll hear excerpts, song clips, and actors reading their lines, be able to participate in giveaways, hear about upcoming events and always learn about someone new!
YOUR HOST My name is Christina Leigh Pritchard and I am the author of the C I N Series and also, The Fall of Gadaie Series. I’ve been writing since I was nine. I spent my childhood in a dinner theater so I love actors, shows, musicals, etc. Being in such a creative environment spurred me on to express myself as a youth. I wanted to try everything (even though I always knew I wanted to be a writer).
I took art courses, even earning the opportunity to draw on the windows of McDonald’s during the winter months. It was a great experience but not enough… Band was cool. I got to march, to play in concerts, and attempt to hit high notes on my clarinet (my dog loved to howl whenever I played so maybe I wasn’t so good at instruments). I loved it!
Bipolar Awareness Join Author Christina Leigh Pritchard as she interviews Jilda Leigh, author of the Rosebud Series and self-help novels dealing with bipolar disorder.

Acting classes were next along with many other experiences. I’m proud of my background. I feel blest to have been able to grow up in an environment that welcomed dreamers. That’s what this radio show is about. I want others to feel like me! I want them to have a home—a place where they can freely talk about what they love. There isn’t anything more exciting to me (besides writing), than learning about someone who, despite all odds, struggled through reality and held onto their creativity! Come, welcome, please, take a look around at what a little hard work can accomplish! My sister, Ember, is an artist, photographer and poet. She Co-hosts most shows!
Children & Disabilities Jaimie Hope writes a children’s series about a little girl who is bound to a wheel chair. What’s amazing about this author is she wrote these stories from experience!

BIPOLAR AWARENESS A self-help journey by Jilda Leigh
SHADOWS, SKELETONS AND A SOUTHERN BELLE by Jilda Leigh is about the authors struggles with Bipolar disorder. She offers readers advice for fellow sufferers and those who have someone close to them who suffers. During our interview she explained what having Bipolar means, how it affects your family and your everyday life. Listener Maria, a person who has been a nurse for over 45 years, asked Jilda important questions about the affects Bipolar disorder has on children. Would you like to read an excerpt of her selfhelp book?
AN EXCERPT Her mind was foggy. She wasn’t exactly sure where she was. Then reality came crashing in. “What happened?” she thought to herself. “I’d planned everything out so carefully. I wrote a note. I took way too many pills. I even cut myself far deeper than I have ever cut myself before”, she mumbled out loud. “What went wrong? Why am I still here?” Then, slowly, she began to sob. There were tubes coming out of her everywhere! IVs running to ensure she was hydrated. a nurse was checking on her every hour on the hour. This just couldn’t be happening! But, it was. There was an IV in each arm, and one in her left foot. She had a catheter. An oxygen tube was in her nose. Machines were humming and buzzing. The straps still hung loosely from the sides of the bed where she had been restrained. She continued to sob, looking around at the dismal surroundings. Her only thought—I failed again. “But, who had found me? Who had saved me?” she thought. “More importantly, why did they save me? WHY? Didn’t they realize how much pain I was in? I mean, I just tried to kill myself, did they miss that clue?” she said to no one in the room. Shadows crept in around her. They fit her like a glove. They were familiar, always bringing the sorrow and despair. She tried to turn on
her side in the hospital bed, to no avail. She only cried harder and harder. The voices started to speak again, taunting her— laughing at her failure. The voices were always with her, like the shadows. They banged inside her head like a drum, always trying to get her attention. She seriously considered ripping the IVs from her body, just to feel the pain to know for certain this was real. But, something held her at bay. It wasn’t the pain that caused her to pause; it was the idea of being restrained again. It was the fear, the fear of the unknown. The Skeleton named Fear that haunted her for decades. Learn More….

AUTHOR BIO About the Author (from the mouth of the writer!)
My name is Jilda Leigh and I’ve had the privilege of being born and bred in the South. I grew up, and have lived my entire life in a small community called Killian, South Carolina. As the Brooks & Dunn song goes, "life begins and ends on the red dirt road." True statement indeed. I have one beautiful daughter and four gorgeous grandchildren. I am in the middle of five living generations. We all live within about a 6 mile radius of each other, on the compound. None of us live too far from the compound. That’s where my life is. This is where my roots are. I enjoy watercolor painting, am an avid Jimmy Buffett fan (you know us Parrotheads), a football junky (Go Gamecocks!), and a big fan of anything my momma cooks! Music is a must! My music library is vast and very eclectic. I listen to everything from Duke Ellington and Etta James to Linkin Park and Metallica. If there isn’t music in my day, there’s a problem somewhere because I’m thinking too much. , I am an avid writer, a voracious reader. I read every day – about a book a day.

Jaimie Hope does not let adversity stop her. The reason I enjoyed interviewing Hope was because of her determination and positive attitude! She blew me away.

About the Author (from the mouth of the writer!) I was born November 3, 1976 in New York. Growing up one of my favorite time of the day was story time. Even at an early age, I became wrapped up in whatever story was being read. At the time, I just wanted to be part of the story. It wasn't until high school that I decided I wanted to be a writer. This is when my ideas for the Adventures of Baby Jaimie started forming. I was on the newspaper staff for two years in high school and really enjoyed it. We didn't have assigned stories, but we were able to do investigative reporting if we chose to. I was usually more into the freelance style of writing about whatever
In my senior year, I took a creative writing course where I got to explore the depths of my creativity.
In 2002, I moved to Florida. I did quite a lot while I was there. I was an active volunteer in the local historical society. I also did volunteer work at the local library. During this time, I also sang on a few demos at the local studio, tried my hand at songwriting and ran a book club. It wasn't until 2005, when I picked up The Adventures of Baby Jaimie and started working in earnest to get it done. I finished the text of my manuscript within a month. I submitted it to a handful of publishers, only to be rejected. Again, I shelved The Adventures of Baby Jaimie, temporarily, when I moved back to New York in the spring 2006 that I even thought about picking it up again. I had lunch with a friend one day in the summer of 2006 who told me about a friend of hers who was also an author. She put me in contact with him, and he gave me advice on how to go about making my dreams of becoming a published author come true. In November of 2006, AuthorHouse

released The Adventures of Baby Jaimie. After the release, I got busy trying to promote it, and as they say, life happened. I began to try my hand at writing a novel. This proved to be a slow process as well, but not as slow as my first book. In July of 2008, PublishAmerica released my first short novel, Who Says You Can't Go Home. You may be asking yourself what's next. Only time will tell.
PRESCOTT AND HER LOVE OF MUSIC Sometimes, a little heart goes a long way. Prescott writes and sings her own music. You can buy her first release, Giv’m my love off amazon for just 0.99 cents! She loves nature and beats to her own drum!
I CAN’T BELIEVE I DID THAT! Prescott shared a funny story with us on days with her Camaro! She really and truly raced away from the police. Great story!
